hey there ~

started playing a few weeks ago and not doing it daily….

tried some pvp and got a lot of fun. first question might be : i tought that wvw is same as pvp when it comes down to levels skillz eq ….. but when i entered wvw i just had lev 80 with my pve traits ?

but the main reason of this thread is my pvp build. i run a pretty different build then i read and see on vids sometime.
my question is, if its rly that bad ?
i dont want to use a build that works in tournaments and the pros are using… i want to find my playstile and fit the build in. so i am experimenting a lot recently.
atm i am at 2 deadly art with mug
6 crit with vit for perception, fury for less then 50%hp, 20% damage increase for less then 50% hp
2 shadow arts for condition removal
4 in tricks for buffs and steal boons for steal.
elite is venom
heal is rollback
utilitys are shadow refuge and the other two i am switching a lot. i like the flat 25% mov speed and use it a lot. i do like the blinding powder as well. tried shadow step and infiltrators signet too… i even tried the signet for 180 perception.
i use d/d with sigil of air and accuracy with zerker amulet. rune of the pack.
so i am at 62% crit with fury at 82%.
my goal is, as u can see burst. most builds i saw are 6 trickery for the daze… its rly nice and all but, i do have my elite for that. and i dont want to loose any of my other traid things…
i just think that on paper my build should work and be fine, the thing that makes me wonder , as i said, is why noone is using something like that ? is there anything that i dont see why it is not strong ?
atm i am at 27 games played and 11 won unranked. 0 games played ranked.

when i see a valid target i start with elite then steal cnd backstab. with more then 80% crit i crit often. then i often use 4th dagger skill to slow em auto attack a bit and use heartseeker. in unranked i can often get ppl down with it. when they are downed i switch to sb and poisen field + shatter bomb and auto.

would be nice of someone would analyze it and tell me the weakeness of the build.

<edit> and pls dont get this thread as a whine thread that i am so bad…. i know i am cause i need practise and maybe skill…. its just a question about the build. and maybe rotation :p

Because you die from condition damage rather fast and everyone is running condition damage builds with Celestial. Which makes them resistant to burst damage from Thieves and can deal a lot of condition damage back.

I would tell you to consider and use D/P instead of D/D, to make fully use of the Shadow Arts trait you picked and “somewhat” to make up for the lost daze on steal. I guess you know it already but using Heart Seeker (Leap Finisher) in the Pistol 5 (Smoke Field) grants you free stealth.

In case you love only D/D playstyle maybe you could switch the two points from Shadow Arts to the Acrobatic line.

I first wanted to answer your question of why people don’t use stuff like that in pvp generally. In my experience it’s due to the reliance on stealth for defense. Stealth prevents you from putting any pressure on points and d/d doesn’t have any huge defenses outside of stealth. (ex. d/p blinds or s/d evades but that’s why those are meta and you said you don’t want those specs so I’ll try to refrain from those). It also has to do with the fact that the revealed in pvp is 4 seconds which again makes d/d a bit more difficult as the extra second kinda messes with the fluidity of the spec.

In regards to your build:
It seems overall pretty well put together although I would change some things like having hidden killer if you want your backstab to be a huge part of your burst and then taking critical haste for an occasional extreme attack speed buff, which often will be a ton of unexpected burst onto an opponent, over the fury against targets. I would take shadowstep for the condi clear and dual stunbreak and then you can choose between infil signet (more stunbreaks and ports), agility sig (condi clear and dodges), or blinding powder (on demand stealth and blind to break agro of enemies). Movement speed signet looks nice but it’s not really necessary to the thief in pvp as you have ports via shortbow to cover ground quickly and free up an invaluable utility slot. Then you can drop the accuracy sigil and take fire for more burst. For shortbow though I’d take energy and leeching sigils just to have a more defensive setup for that weapon.
