hi! , i need ur thoughts on a decent Thief build, i always run in party with my brother, hes necromancer , so i would be nice if the build was kinda party focused , but not to much! , hehe , a must have for me is the sprint signet 25% , and ofc shadow refuge? , or? , / as for weapons , hmm, i dont know too much , but , i like D/D, not sure for offhand tbh , coming from other games(not wow so its kinda tricky to learn all this stuff in a coffebreak , about gear.. what stats i should be going for? etc , does this game favour powers stats? , or is it viable to acctually go for lets say crit? , but then lack power? ,, hmm, and what about condition? , thats a tricky one , cuz my daggers apply poision?, hmm, so do i use them for applying dots? or do i use them for direkt dmg? , i dont kn ow , all the builds ive seen , never mentioning stat priority , maybe they do , but i dont see it , anyways , all builds are welcome , as long as they are up to date , gimme ur thougts , feel free to add me in game and play with me and my brother , we are pvp focused but enjoy the pve , im 28 now , and yes , im asking for a 80 build . post build links below , i always enjoy high burst play in other games , as sentinel midddle tree in swtor ,and so on, so high burst is good , but i understand that surv is importent in gw 2 , dont be shy now folks! , start comment!

I don’t have an exact build cause I’m very new to thief and not yet a lvl 80. For a more team friendly approach, so far i love the amount of vulnerabilities stacked by P/D #2 and #5. I’ve been testing with Merciful Ambush lately, 2 seconds isn’t much and I can’t really tell whether is it good. Shadow’s refuge is brilliant, especially for stealth ressing, and life steal combo for the projectile folks.

I’m usually always partied with my friend that is a condi necro, 100% duration. My build wasn’t designed with a team in mind but my d/d bs burst paired with my buddies devastating condi’s work really well. SR for stealthing both of us to get out of trouble.

thx guys for sharing ur houghts, thx mom :9 for build , im gonna test it out , seems to be the style i want to play , feel free to continue brainstorming on this one , and oh btw , shadow refuge , is it interupteble? , cuz my buddie the nec said that they smashed him out from it? , i amen , is it easy breakable if peeps just drop som aoe circle on it? , does it break then or what?

the thing with shadow refuge is you can still take aoe damage and for me the healing has always been sub par, so i use it as an escape tool more than a healing tool. Players know what it is so they will spam aoe on it when you pop it. I’ve also come across players that have a pull and can pull you out of it the second you cast it. The way I use it is I always always always use it away from the enemies. So i’ll use shadowstep + a couple heart seekers to put distance down THEN pop it. That gives you enough safety to fully benefit from it. Also you got to watch out for the stealth de-buff…do any damage to a player after you use it and all that stealth is wasted. If you are caught in an emergency and have to pop it i always stand right on the border of the SR circle. Most melee players will just stand in the middle swinging wildly so if you are on the edge your chances of getting hit are less.

This build could be something for you. It have some burst, a good amount of toughness and some team focus. This was just something I made while at work, so it isn’t something I have tested yet, but it looks tempting to try out :p

Thieves help their team the most by doing DPS. Focus on that

ok thx all, im testing allot of options here , differnet weapons etc , im open for anything , and yes that is true , a pure dps high burst build would eb nice to, pls just post the builds here , as logn they are up to date every thief van enjoy this post thx for info regarding the SR , nice!

if you play with yor necro friend a lot you gotta love dagger 4 on wells.
And if you prefer doing content over farming queensdale conditions are the way to go – p/d or d/d – just make sure you necro has epidemic and you still have enough power to destroy non-npc objects.

gimme some effective build on thief ,,, is there any cloak based stuff? stealth? , i wanna build a wvw/pvp build, and stick whit it in pve , period , high burst dmg

Either of the builds in this thread are perfect for Thief in WvW (and will work in PvE) with D/D, D/P, or S/D as main set with SB as your secondary. The one with Mug is focussed on burst with D/D or D/P and the other on survivability; both are heavily focussed on stealth. Note that if you use S/D you should change Hidden Killer to Executioner in the Critical Strikes traitline.

Finally, look up Yishis team and solo roaming videos on YouTube. He’s a very good Thief and has exellent commentary for learning.
