new thief
For thief the primary condition options are D/D and P/D. There is also shortbow which can provide some condition damage in certain contexts and AoE interrupts as well.
Are you in pvp and WvW or just WvW? Also, are you running a basic account or Heart of Thorns?
I can provide some mentoring on the class if you want it. Shoot me a mail in game if so.
Ty for the reply.
I’m mainly into WvW but i do dabble a little into instanced PvP.
I have HoT.
I used to be really good at making my own builds, my necro is not meta by any means but i do better than average.
I just don’t know where to start with thief, and before i spend a fortune on crafting / buying the gear i am going to need i wanted to know if Condi thief was even viable.
Don’t wanna throw gold away trying different weapon sets and i don’t want to develop muscle memory that i will have to unlearn in the near future ….. not getting any younger XD.
Pvp is always good for practice without spending money.
I have both an NA and EU account so I’m able to show you how P/D plays at least. I’m much less familiar with D/D although that is pretty common.
Have you unlocked all of the Daredevil traitline? Unfortunately, Thief is one of the only professions that cannot really compete in 1v1s if it is not using an elite spec.
D/D core power thief has a gimmick signet build you can attempt, but its extremely high risk, and the D/D kit is not in any way noob friendly when fighting other players.

D/D condition is far easier then d/d power. Power you have to be able to enter stealth so you can generate your bigger attacks and that requires properly timing your CnD. You can certainly trait utilities to get you into stealth but these have cooldowns and if you try to rely on them will find yourself killed in short order.
if you want to remain power I suggest you practice your stealth timing of Cnd in PVE.
Thief condition is certainly possible. D/D condition uses the DB spam and relies more on evades while p/d is more stealth.
