pistol/dagger shadow strike
or even if you don’t hit them? I agree.
yeh, i thought about even if you dont hit them, but then its a shadow step for 4 initiative you can spam to get around the map.
HS spam? not quite the distance… but with this it’s not doing anyone damage by retreating without hitting anyone? hehe, funny image of people traveling the map at lightning speed > Backwards.
In my opinion what ANet should do is to swap P/D third skill Shadow Strike with D/P third skill Shadow Shot.My reasons is that P/D while depeneding much on C&D doesn’t have ANY gap closer(compare it to IS or HS) and on the other hand D/P already have HS and could use some get-away shot.

Bingo! That’s exactly what I’ve been saying. P/D needs a gap closer way more than a shadowstep away.
I used to use it all the time to regain some distance while kiting. Now though, since dodging gives me two boons and drops caltrops, I’m much more likely to use that instead.
A gap closer other than steal would be handy.
This skill just doesn’t fit well with the others. If it had a stun break with it, so you could use it to break stun/immobilize and then shadowstep back, that would be good. As it stands though it’s initiative costs is way to high for its limited use, I almost never use it unless I am trolling a warrior by not using stealth at all.

Use steal.
You can’t have my Shadow Stab. Also, fix the root on Shadow Stab Anet, thanks.
I disagree, about changing shadow strike with shadow shot. The cohesion of shadow shot with melee based attacking makes needs to be there. As a melee person you don’t want to be trying to kill a person yet having to constantly run back to them. Shadow strike fits within it’s ranged based gameplay, keeping distance with P/D is important, even with Cloak and Dagger. On a personal level, my main build uses P/D and Short Bow. I’ve been saved many times by shadow strike, such as getting caught in a burst move, there’s usually just enough time and the end of the burst for which I can escape or die. At those points in time, shadow strike has allowed me to get enough distance to escape/survive. Also, in general it does a decent about of damage and is very good for control builds. But that’s just my personal testimony.
To OP, it’s more of a mechanic thing rather than a logic based. It’d be nice to be able to at least bounce away if blocked though. So yes, I agree.
Thief – Radderic
Mesmer – Smash Kablooey
Of course I use steal. The point was D/P already has 2 weapon skill gap closers, and P/D has 0. But Vile’s right, let’s get back on topic.
