s/p, d/p, or d/d need help : /
Whoa whoa do not quit the game. I will assume you are still fairly new to the game/thief mechanics. I can teach you some d/p or d/d techniques if you really want to learn. Add me in game AikijinX. I am from Kaineng but we can go in pvp if you want to learn. Don’t quit on us. I hate to see a rising thief go.
AikijinX- [Mada] [MILF] [HUNT] 7.3k Thief Hours
Defend Your Back
s/p is a build that relies on evasion, so if you are new it isn’t the best build to start off with in pvp/wvw, however in PvE the trick is to black powder then auto attack then pistol whip if you can finish the enemy with it rather than poping another black powder.. in PvE you can use death blossom (dagger/dagger #3) and the caltrops utility to bleed and kite your enemies to death while wearing condition damage gear. d/d burst would probably be the pvp weapon set to start learning with, as it tends to be the simplest, and a build with 30 in shadow arts will help you live quite a while while still hitting quite hard assuming 30 points are also in critical strikes for hidden killer and the right gear. it can definitely be confusing at first, but don’t give up, the thief community is quite helpful, so we can likely set you on the right path for a build you enjoy.
Gungnir Aurus – 80 Guardian
[AUX] Isle of Janthir
yeah D/D is what im most comfortable with but idek now bc people tell me condition dmg is eaily removed in pvp and such and i cant seem to really get comfortable with eith s/p or d/p- which i am using now
The whole “conditions are easily removed in pvp” thing is really blown out of proportion by fans of direct damage builds. Condition builds are absolutely not weak or inferior in this game.
If you end up going D/D with conditions, P/D is a great compliment to that and one of the best 1v1 and small scale PVP builds there is probably when you combine D/D and P/D with condition damage and lots of stealth.
If you just want to have some fun on your thief in PVP I would actually highly recommend this route and take the Carrion amulet. Start with P/D and focus on landing those cloak and daggers, be patient, have fun bleeding people to death while you spend 80% of the fight in stealth. This is the most user friendly Thief build in my opinion and the least difficult to play and succeed with.
[DA] Decisive Actions – Jade Quarry
I have to admit, I’m fairly new to playing a Thief, but I feel as if I can step in here.
As the above poster says, he is correct that the condition damage builds being weaker is somewhat blown out of proportion, but only in respect of the fights you look for, the larger the active player number, the less effective condition builds become, whereas Burst builds can and do work almost everywhere.
Regardless of your build, Thieves in general work better in the smaller scale warfare, picking your opponents and knowing their abilities will win you more fights than ‘winging’ it. D/D and P/D condition builds are probably the way to go if you wish to play conditions, taking utilities like Caltrops, and traits like Caltrops on dodge, as well as speccing heavily into the 3rd and 5th trait lines can help you remain highly evasive and drop conditions like rain on the enemies. You won’t be the quickest at killing with conditions, but with high access to stealth, built in evades into attacks and vice versa, you’ll still be more than a threat.
Condition and bunker builds are for sissy babies.
Real men go full zerker and use D/D and Shorbow. NO exceptions.
d/p is good to start off with if u cant dodge, if not go d/d for best potential
Been playin around with all of the above thanks guys! I was def thinkin if I should switch my SB for PP I think I might
What pvp gear do I use tho?
Yeah I’m def very “noobish” in pvp all I do is “wing it” and then panic and button mash and get slapped
