Are there any viable builds for PvP except for evasion-heavy S/D?

I mainly play WvW with my thief and I’m using stealth-heavy builds there, but I know those aren’t viable in Conquest.

I tried using a D/P build with 2/6/0/0/6, but I didn’t seem to do enough damage and I was dying very easily. I also tried 5/6/0/0/3, but that didn’t work well either.
The only build that I seem to do well is a P/P glasscannon, but it’s like I can feel the cold stares of my teammates whenever I use it ._.

Any suggestions?

You’re in a dead end you refuse to go s/d eva or stealth based builds but rather have p/p?!!
Try D/P 0/6/6/2/0 with Fleet Shadow or 2/6/6/0/0 or p/d 2/0/6/0/6. You got to have one of them evade or stealth choose..

Try D/P 0/6/6/2/0 with Fleet Shadow or 2/6/6/0/0 or p/d 2/0/6/0/6. You got to have one of them evade or stealth choose..

Those build will not avoid the clod stares from team mates and will actually had could stares from enemies once they notice the 6 in SA
The P/D I saw in some thieves, it can work but you have to play it really well, it’s not like in WvW where you go full dire and don’t even need to dodge.

Beside P/D from what I’ve seen recently it’s just S/D. I still see D/P and S/P Thieves but S/D is far superior. This comes from personal experience too

I thought we were discussing about sPvP not crappy WvW builds

Thief might not be as strong as last year
but they’re a lot stronger
than they will be next year!

i play D/D or D/P with 2/6/6/0/0 or 2/0/0/6/6 and it works well enough. it certainly isn’t 100% meta or 100% optimal but for having fun whilst having the ability to win i think it’s great. Also i have dabbled in P/P TBH i think it’s fine just use it with D/D, D/P, or S/D (P/P replaces SB for your ranged weapon set) like the above builds it ain’t optimal but it’s cool and it saves you from getting some kitten talk from teammates.

Depends on the opposite team, the set effectiveness will depend on who you fighting not everyone is pvp is normal power build. Most power thief play high risk for a chance to quick burst but that’s why they use SB to escape and disengage without SB it would be death on many occasions.

Anything with dagger off-hand is predictable,D/P consume heavy initiative,S/P is very predictable,P/P has the poorest sustain the SB serves the purpose of getting your butt out of here before you die the same for SR who doesn’t use one of them and is experienced?

6 in SA doesn’t stop you from pvping it’s just means you are not glass canon the same with 6 in Acro partially but then again who doesn’t use stealth or SB?

I like s/p more than s/d because of interrupts and it’s more easy to finish off. With s/d you can only burst people and evade, it’s not that great as interrupts, high burst with whip and blind.

whut s/d trickery is awesome at interrupts since the sword gives an interrupt when you attack from stealth when attacking from behind, making it doubly effective. Pistol 4 is ok for a ranged interrupt but it is quite expensive initiative wise and if the thief doesn’t take the trait “Prepared”, it becomes even more so since s/p is quite an expensive setup initiative wise compared to something like s/d.

I agree the lack of access to a blind field can make stomping more difficult but it’s actually possible to use Steal to interrupt your enemies anti-stomp mechanic as you are stomping him as a work around to this specific problem. But I’m not gonna lie, S/P has insane downstate pressure just by 5+3ing. With regards to S/D, generally in a 2 on 1 if I can’t secure a stomp on the first downed enemy I will go into stealth on the rezzer via CnD then proceed to interrupt their res immediately with the stealth attack and chain them down with 2 before laying down as much aoe cleave as possible. When possible I will also save basi venom for striking the resser (which when followed by Steal > interrupt > CnD > interrupt from stealth is extremely strong and usually guarantees that both guys are going down) so the S/D build still provides some fantastic downstate pressure. The problem with thief in general is the lack of stability, so it’s always tough to clean stomp against properly prepared opponents without support.
