I feel your frustration, a class that can do 20k dmg over 2-3mins should certainly be nerfed.

never said you did 20k damage and the thief wasnt attacking me.. i was on a cliff farcasting it while it attacked my team mates.

it would take that to down you because the best i get is one hit before the next evade frame after i finally clear the blind and leave the bp you dropped at my feet

The weakness is Necro actually so you’re doing it wrong. Conditions wreck evasion Thief because Shadow Arts and Stealth are needed for dependable condi removal. And if he specced tanky he’s not really going to do much damage with sword. If he’s using BP on you as well then he’s evading and attacking even less. Probably just a big skill difference and a poor build. Power Necro is meh.

Your posts show how much you don’t know about thief class and that’s the main reason why thief seems to strong to you (thieves actually hate to fight necros).

Evasive builds (usually S/D) usually have higher HP from traiting to acro line but 20k? These builds rarely use pistol offhand cos short bow is the no. 1 wep in pvp. Bomb evasive thief with condis and chill to kill them.

Usual D/P build in pvp (those that have access to BP) isn’t traited for more dodges and has rather low HP.

Honestly aoe and condi wreck S/D thieves. As a Necro, you shouldn’t be having trouble. Though if the thief is really good, it will certainly be difficult. But the odds are slanted in your favor (rock paper scissor kinda deal.)

every time I ask a question like this it always falls down to “play terrormancer” its just so boring wrong forum to ask I guess

I know it might work better but I was after ideas on how to avoid the usual blind 1111111f1 blind 1111111 fear 111111111 that happens every time I face a thief on my power necro not just sp thief… only your other builds don’t have evades up the backside that can be used to avoid any decent attack I have, that is all.

How do you think I feel when I want to play as a P/P stealthless Thief. It’s hard to play the way you want to sometimes. Get better as a Necro using an inferior style I guess. You’ll need a lot of practice and maybe you’ll figure out the answer to your question on your own.

thanks for trying but to get ample sources of chill it usually means traiting blinds for it and then its only 1 second per blind that a nero does not have much of or using focus.. with a 1,1/4 cast time or getting you to 50% health to proc spinal shivers if that trait is taken

Not the wrong forum! You have this forum and the necro forum to ask these questions. I would probably ask in the necro forums first since there’s probably quite a few necros there that have great tips and advice for how to kill a thief.

Most thieves will melt when faced with conditions. Unless specced with shadow arts, we have very limited condition removal. If you condition bomb us we usually have two options: waste a long cooldown and take the risk of not getting another condition bomb, or get away…

Well I also play a power based necormancer that uses lots of chills.

Now this from a wvw perspective.

I use runes that extend my chill and add vitality. I then take the trait Chill on blind. You have two spinal shivers that can be traited. Chills become 100 percent duration.

Thus Spinal shivers off dagger focus is 10 seconds chill 20 second cooldown.
Chill from Chill of death is 10 second chill when opponents life reaches 50 percent.
All blinds inflict 2 seconds of chill.
Weapon swap inflicts 4 second chill. (sigil hydromancy)

Ice nova from the rune set while on a 30 second cooldown offers 6 seconds of chill.
If you wish you can use a sigil of ice for a 4 second chill with a 10 second cooldown.

That well of darkness provides blinds and chills if you trait for it. As long as they stand in that well they are chilled.

You can grab sigil of mischief if you want and blind and chill everytime you swap to that weaponset. ( i have not tried it but hydromancy and mischief should stack . In theory if you wanted you can get a 6 second chill per weapon swap)

Spectral grasp becomes a long range pull (pull him into your well) and an 8 second chill

Thieves need mobility and Chill is something thieves hate

Warriors do not have many sources of chill but many put a sigil of hydromancy on a weapon just to help snag thieves.

If you do not want to take chill or do not think it a viable option it your choice but the fact remains chill kills. I am sure other necromancers have other soultions. As a thief main I really hate those chill builds.

S/D thief beats condi necro any day.
Use BV from 900 range to proc the Reaper’s protection trait. Stunbreak with Infiltrator Signet the Nightmare Rune proc (if you already have a condi on you, otherwise you can wait it out). Use Shadowstep to stunbreak the Doom Fear, then wait a bit and use the port back to cleanse some condis. Use Withdraw to cleanse Cripple Chill, and manage your initiative well with the cleanse from Sword #2. Dodge the Reaper’s Mark and the dagger #5+2. Dodge Tainted Shackles last hit. Dodge Dark Path. If your engage went perfectly, you can even use Steal just for Interrupting his Healing Skill.

Really, I dont understand what makes you think Condi Necro is good against SD thieves

EDIT: POWER Necro is a waay worse opponent for an SD thief, because even with all those evades, skills like Axe#2, Dagger #2, DS#4 will keep hitting and will proc some Air/Fire sigils. A well placed Well will force the thief out of a Shadow Refuge. And the Spinal Shivers autoproc is deadly to most thieves. Just dont miss you Doom Fear and you’ll be okay.

its not their skills on the weapons. Its movement on the battlefield and the effect it has on their utilities and heals. If they are relying more on their weapons to get out of combat because utilities they might use are on an extended cooldown then they are burning INI faster.

As I stated mine is a power necro that uses CHILLS to impede the enemies mobility. A necro does not have great battlefield mobility which is why chills and cripples so important.

Power necro can still use conditions. Chill can be an integral part of a power build.

If you hit someone in armor that casts frost nova you will not as a thief dodge the chill. if the necro has hydromancy weapon sigils and swaps at close range a theif will not dodge. If a necro applies chill over and over again number 2 sword will not keep up. Shadowstep away and get chilled again.

Again one source of Chill will not accomplish a lot.

Lel? What are you even saying? Chill on thief is useless mate. Thief can easily move through ports (not affected by chill) and dodges (not affected by chill). Plus, they can cleanse it very easily with the their healing skill. Really, if there is a condition that does not scare me at all when I play thief, that’s chill/cripple. Saying that it order to beat a thief you need Chill is plain wrong.

The only conditions that really annoys me when I play thief are Weakness, Poison and Burning. All these usually call for an immediate cleanse.

A p/d thief has no ready access to weakness or to burning yet deal quite nicely with an s/d thief. Heavy and continous condition pressure is a weakness of the s/d build.

As to s/d thief beating a condi necro any day I call bull mate. If a thief spends all his time on ports and evades to avoid incoming conditions they are not doing any damage. You have to close to melee range to fight.

You also seem to be under the impression that a necro using chill can not also inflict poison and weakness.

Condi necro is indeed an easy target for a thief ( S/D or D/P). The only thing you can do as a necro is pray RNG gods that your auto fears will proc after the thief already used his stunbreaks. Otherwise, you won’t even land any damage on thief unless you’re a power necro with air/fire.

…. That’s because Spinal Shivers autoproc deals around 4k dmg, not because of the Chill.
Condi Necros don’t have any way to Condi Bomb a thief. They don’t have enough access to “covering” conditions (compared, to, say, engi) to prevent the “important conditions” from being cleansed. Also, Condi Necros have literally 0 sustain. If an SD is pressured, he can just kite no stop.
Really, I have the impression you don’t know how SD works.

Cause I have no problem against power necro on any thief build(maybe p/p but that because I dont play that kitten) and I have no probs killing cond necros on x/d with shadow embrace and reju.too easy infact.Even wtihout those traits I prolly can kill them easly and the majority of thieves are the same.Necros are in a hard spot in general.Hopefully the Greatwsord would give them somthing/

The best way to kill an S/D thief is to outplay them. If you mindlessly go through skill rotations, it will be very hard to kill a thief who is simply dodging and pressing 3 on Sword. Because thieves are mainly melee classes, standard melee counters do extremely well. AoE, CC, Conditions are all brutal to thieves if you can land them. Honestly, keeping skill levels equal, thieves pretty much lose 1v1’s to almost every class (except for mesmer). You just have to make your skills count. xD

Cos you have no problems, others shouldn’t too? Best is, you base your comment on playing with shadow reju, that trait can carry anyone, just like old mesmer PU.

if i notice the person im attacking is running a condi build while im running a glass s/d build i just immediatly disengage and run away. condi builds blow me up
