deadeye loses the steal port but gains one in their utilities so it a wash as far as ports go.

The steal port loss in fact is an advantage and can add to the abilty to survive. Many times you do not want to port to an enemy to steal as they are surrounded by AOE or like a DH is sitting on stacked traps. You also may not want to steal into a blob of the enemyy as they will focus you down.Being able to steal at range and remain at range means you can apply all of the steal benefits from 1500 range. This range is 300 greater then existing steal.

It also means you can apply steal benefits to people on castles walls and should eliminate pathing issues on a steal.

As to making the steal unblockable and undodgeable I do not agree. Given you can apply it at such range and that its activation time 1/2 second, I do not see it being blocked or dodged that often. You can also apply the steal from extrme range while stealthed. I do not see how this will be countered as easily as you suggest.

Rifle will be a joke. The cast/aftercasts as per the videos looks horrible. The initiative costs demand the use of trickery (what a shocker), and 1500 range (while kneeling) is a joke. A ranger gets that while being able to essentially stealth, kb, burst, and move.

All classes at this point, and after PoF will have enough mobility to catch you as you kneel there and kitten on your face.

The only way I can see this weapon being actually decent and competitive in PvP is if the kneeling function is as smooth as kit swapping (which it’s not atm), there are more than 1 unblockable skills (else enjoy killing yourselves with the plethora of reflects in the game), and if the initiative costs aren’t as horrific as they currently are – assuming the damage it brings as a weapon is something worth playing with.

I’m also fairly confident at this point in time that it will not compete with DD staff or DE d/d for PvE content like raids based on what we know so far.

D/D deadeye will at least be a viable pick for raids with 7 malice it has a 21% modifier while trickery D/D only has 15% and if you go for the might share you still have 15% + might for 10 people

There’s a 45s cd for the stealth you’re talking about. I don’t think you understand how the skill works.

1500 range while immobile….not exactly anything so threatening. A ranger has this while being mobile, and able to spam kb and stealth.

Sniper kits can’t be balanced fairly. It’ll either be overpowered and stupid or just outright weak.

Unless they change the concept it’s a lose-lose for gw2 as a whole imho.

I’m only playing PvE, I don’t see myself kneeling down to take aim for seconds unless I can one-shot things. Otherwise I’ll just run towards the target and Unload. Mobility and swiftness is why I love Assassin/Thief/Ranger classes, if a rifle slows me down, I probably won’t use it.

If you play daredevil and can’t solo kill 3 more skilled players you have l2p issues. Other classes just don’t have any tools to fight against good daredevil. Even if you use reveal daredevil is still much better class than others.

I think I’ll keep using daredevil .

The Deadeye is a very niche specialization. It might not be popular for Raids unless there is a Raid Boss designed to let long range fighters abuse their range to the fullest.

However, I can see them still having their uses and roles. As their range means they don’t have to stand in the stupid, and their damage allows them to immediately burn down distance threats.

For Deadeye builds, I can see them prefering something that gives them both damage and vitality, and combine that with the spec that gives them damage resistance from marked enemies. They already get a passive increase in damage alone, so it may be more favorable to get a survivability build.

Stolen skills would also be very useful with peripheral vision. However, as nice as it sounds, there’s not a whole lot of skills that gives boons in the steal table. And the most impressive ones are Consume Plasma, and Hero’s tonic (may have been removed). Consume Plasma gives all boons, and Hero’s Tonic/Elixer gives invulnerability for a few seconds.

Yes, rifle appears to be a back line build where you have to choose your actions wisely due to not having a spam at will escape key for loss aversion purposes.

Stay DD if you want to keep the god mode mobility.

Added to that is other confusing stuff where I am sure the WIKI page has it wrong. As example WIKI page lists base steal on deadeye of 20.75 seconds. This is in fact the steal of or existing steal with trickery and then SOH traited given our existing steal is 30 seconds base ICD.

If DEADEYE base is in fact 20.75, we are looking at a steal of around 16 seconds if trickery and SOH traited and I find that unlikely.

I’m a wvw roammer have 4K+ wvw ranks . And I have to say DD is NOT a god mod if u have fought good ones , the mobility is just a basic thing for DD to survive the condi bombs , control chains and skills that make revealed . And u have to know , no kneel , no damage for deadeye , it means u will have NO CHANCE when fighting the other elite classes (see the spellbreaker, firebrand , mirage , even daredevil and druid can kick ur ass easily) .

20.75 secs is traited time , not basic .

The actual time is 20.87s with SoH. The reason for this is that Lead Attacks does not directly reduce cd (like SoH does), but rather increases the rate of cd. The tooltips are misleading.

It’s a safe bet deadeye rifle most likely wont be able to 1v1 as many as a melee x thief, unless u get some lucky shots. But i can totally see it having its momentum, for ex if u trait it right ull have dmg boost n quickness n stun when mark is applied, thats when u may wanna be in kneel to dump all ur initiative which could drop a target to 50 75%, where u follow up with elite stealth while target has some passive or active defense going, for u to follow up on

Just making the kneel movable and rename it “Sniper’s Stance” , problem solved.

We still need changing stance for leap back ( rifle 4 while standing ) , 2 “rounds” and 10 secs recharge of rifle skill 5 is good now .

It is way too early to start discrediting something that no one has had a chance to see in action. Especially when said topic is subject to some massive changes before public testing, and before actual release.

I don’t know about counter play… A number of the other specs have several reflects or projectile blockers. And you have only one unblockable shot.

It’s more like you catch them while busy or off guard, or you run away. Though to be fair… in structured PvP I may run Bow and Rifle. Abuse the living kitten out of the fact that the thief can pretty much go where he pleases in a moment’s notice.

D/P DE or even S/D DE will be quite good 1v1 builds. There is a lot of dmg reduction potential for DE and the chasing potential of the S/D and D/P sets make up for the loss of steal…

1500 range is nothing when you play against other players. I only played WvW long enough to get the Gift of Battle, but everybody there moves so kitten quickly. I play thief and I didn’t feel exceptionally fast moving compared to others. Some classes just port 1200 range, then Deadeye is within 300 range. Unless he sits on an elevated position, he’s done. And that’s what Ranger already can do, just with 300 less range. 300 is very close to melee range.

I understand that they cannot allow one shot kills from 2500 range, but I’m sure they will tweak the numbers soon after going live, when it’s actually played.
