Question for arena net:
WHY thief is not good for dungeons ?
i always heard that the best party is 5 guardians (you can literately go afk on bosses) , OR 2 necro, 2 guardian and 1 mesmerguys, wtf ???
if the boss just spits toward us, we die…
Not good ???? Man first time 1, do not use noobs Berserger gear 2, L2P your class 3, use defense skills

most fractal runs are random ppl, if you take full zerk thief with them, you gonna die:D
Random groups are more about heavy defence first. Tho my mesmer is full zerk and has no troubles, but one mistake and insta gib.

As a Venomous Aura spec, I personally love getting “stuck” with a bunch of melee oriented Warriors and Guardians. They’re actually in range for my AoE buffs and I can help us shred through content at a rediculous pace. It’s your average PUG who constantly scatters like roaches that frustrates me since it makes it nearly impossible to buff my fellow players (which is the whole point of my Trait spec).
Pack AoE utility purposes skills like Shadow Refuge. Don’t play a glass cannon build with your average low dps PUG group who runs all around and lacks general party cohesion. Make sure that you’re using some kind of defensive +Stat to keep yourself alive. If you can cover these things, then you should do relatively fine in PUGs (beyond the occassional PUGs which are just inherently hopeless).

Well, 1 guardian with 2h hammer autoattack places on the ground a symbol that gives protection. Around 100% uptime if I’m not wrong if you stand in it. Then 4 1h hammer guardians. Autoattack chain is an AoE heal on 3rd strike.
Those two together, you are kind of hard to kill yes. If you don’t go completely AFK, the 1h hammer users can place the healing symbol when out of CD for even more group healing.

I’d have to disagree on that. Thing is, if you are with random people. You don’t know if they know the rule :
" Know your role in the party and do it right ".
Its rare to get people who know what they need to do. Now i’ve ran full berserk gear on my thief in fractals and yes they do the job faster but at the same time you risk too much. Like what I posted in the P/P thread, the saying goes the same.
" You deal huge amounts of damage but you die almost instantly when someone spits at you. What good are you to us when you are dead? "
You can’t say to your party
" Oh! i’m down! Res/Rez me cause i deal more damage than any of you combined. "No, its not like that… Even if you die sure the DPS done by the party will be minimized but Rez’ing someone in the heat of the moment is not a good plan. Its best to survive and help out those who may struggle. A party functions better when everyone knows their roles and aren’t a pain in the rear.
Everyone will be in the downed state several times in any dungeon run. I dont care how good you are, it’ll happen.
Thief is no exception, but we are definaely not kittened in this regard. I love the thief in dungeons.
I’ve never had any problems with a P/D condition/malice build. Groups appreciate my face range aoe bleed stacks and tanking ability with the shortbow, and the utility of my caltrops and shadow refuge, and the fact that I tend to be ressing people while still dealing solid dps from all the bleeds because I very rarely hit the floor.
Its not the class that is the problem, it’s that you either don’t have a build that’s suitable for this kind of PvE, or you don’t play the build you have very well.

Thief is amazing in fractals. The passive movement speed buff along with swiftness on dodge lets you run straight through the underwater fractal to hit the boss checkpoint. Then wipe, respawn and you have saved about five minutes on the run.
Cloaking is great for the dredge fractal because you can just sit un-accosted on the first switch while your team moves in and then cloak again on the timed switch while two guys hold the door open.
Shadow stepping around and passive movement speed means you will very rarely be the guy that messes up in the swamp and doesn’t get his spark to the alter in time.
Unload and thieves guild are great at burning down the shield for the grawl boss so he doesnt regen.
Those are just professions specific gimmicks that work great for individual fractals. Then you have normal thief utility, like shadow refuge rezzes, scorpion wire pulls, black powder shot where mobs continuously spawn (dredge tank), quick defiance removal, and high dps.
Thieves are one of the best classes to take into a dungeon. People just get a bad taste in their mouths for them because there isn’t a lot of middle ground. It’s easy to forget the thief that the party never has to worry about. He is there and stuff just happens. But it’s hard to overlook the thief that is constantly needing a rez and putting the party in a bad position.
