So as the title says im a complete noob to gw2 and have rolled a thief because coming over from WoW I loved my rogue, unfortunately the two are barely similar and after reading up on thief builds and seeing rants on how useless thieves seem to be I was hoping some of you out there that are using a thief SUCCESSFULLY can give me some “helpful” advice !!
Thanks in advance

Dodging/Stealth is your main source of survival. I use dodge happy builds because nobody has complained about them yet.

Here’s a tip: Don’t blow your initiative spamming the high damage skills like heartseeker. Learn to time the attacks with your party members if youre in a dungeon.

Also, if you do spam heartseeker or the like, once you do, get out of combat like its your job cuz youre going to go down.

Thieves can’t stand in front of mobs like a warrior can and hack them down. You need to use active defenses like smoke/blind, daze, shadowstep, cripple, and evade/dodge. It’s all there in the weapon sets so experiment a bit with the defenses and be prepared to let your auto-attacks roll out the damage. Thieves need to learn to play from the start and it becomes easier to see what’s going on when you’re not mashing your own skill bar.

very very true…..theives’ #1 skills are very very strong…or so I’ve been told….
And know your top 3 weapon combination skills (not 3 skills… but the 15 skills for the 3 different sets you use most) INSIDE AND OUT*….

*Get to know your skills better than the back of your hand. Know what does what, and the most beneficial times to use every skill and when to rely on wep1 skills…. Learn many many different skill (weapon and utility, each and combined) combos and begin to learn and look for the cues of the best times to play each; and when/what combos you can string together….
