thief pull is broken
yup . . . that’s why not a single decent thief use it for main build.
Anet could use the same mechanic as the engi pull skill . . . it seems to never fail.
Heck, the engi pull even goes through blocks lol. It’s still easily obstructed though to be fair, but not like scorpion wire is.

On top of that, I seem to get get pulled by an ability or two in WvW from what should be difficult to impossible angles while I’m on a wall pretty easily. I’d like to do likewise with our wire but it’s not much use except as a projectile in someones field. Even under water it seems to pull an inch or two and while the particle effect continues the duration, the target has already been let go and has hit me back a couple of times from out of my melee range. Basically, it’s a polite way to tap an enemy on the shoulder to let them know you’re there.

All pulls are broken and they’re apparently impossible to fix.

Not the engi one at least for me.

Happens not as often on it but sometimes bugs aswell
can add shadow steps / blinks to the list but i guess we have to live with it
you have to be in combat and stand still and have your target stand still to get it off, if there is any kind of uneven floor, it will fail

I’m still upset when I use scorpion wire my thief doesn’t shout “Get over here!”
Fix ASAP Anet!
It works for me, but most of the time I land it it’s against horrible players who sit there spamming 1. And yeah, you have to stand still to get good odds of hitting.
Don’t follow me, unless you enjoy being chased by angry men with sticks.

Easily my favorite skill in the game. I just wish it was more reliable

actually it is – i mainly play engi and thief, and the pull bugs out so often
sometimes the opponent doesnt get pulled the whole way or even bugs back to the place he was originally at – making you have to interrupt pry bar by weapon switching out of the kit if you started channelling already (which often fails → important skill on cd)
At least with the engi pull there’s also the chance that you pop your target up into the air if you pull them into an incline. I launched an enemy so far up one time it took them around 5 seconds to fall back down. They didn’t take fall damage, but they were able to be attacked while in the air too (as if they were on the ground). It was odd, but at least funny.

Same here: I play a lot of both engi and thief, and both pulls are equally bugged imo. The most common bug being the foe being knocked down, but not pulled to your character. Magnet pull is a bit more useful though, because it is unblockable.
Engi pull bugs out less for me, but it still happens a good deal. Someone mentioned the one where if your target gets blocked on their way to you, they just go flying up into the air. It also has a tendency to rubberband, like sometimes the game seems to forget a pull is supposed to bring the person to you so it attempts to correct it by teleporting them back to where they were but still knocks them down for half a second. Other times people just fall over on the spot and don’t actually get pulled. Magnet is probably better though due to the cast time, if you think its gonna fail, just cancel it and bait a dodge. Can’t do that with scorpion wire AND it costs you a utility slot.
Pulls don’t pull the target if the target is not in combat. In that case, they just get knocked down.

When I play my engi every once in a while, it is just as buggy, but the reason it doesn’t feel quite as infuriating is that it’s one skill on a kit rather than a specific utility skill that continuously fails. 4/5 skills are still decently useful. I’m not saying both don’t need to be fixed, just voicing my opinion on the perception of one being more successful than the other.
Despite trying hard to play Thief as my only other character than my Engineer I’m fairly terrible with it in PvP, I did gather some build and strapped the scorpion wire on it, I’ve had my share of fun with it and my knowledge of the Magnet could be applied on the Wire. Both of them behave the same way and have their share of problems, the only thing that is different is that this failed wire could have been replaced by a perhaps more useful utility skill in the combat you currently are, Magnet only occupies 1/5 of an utility skill.

As someone who plays engi and thief I can say that magnet pull messes up constantly as well, pulls in this game seem to desync more than other movement-affecting stuff like knockbacks. It sux but it’s just something we all have to deal with :\
