thief restealthing after .5-1sec, possible?
If he waits until he comes out of stealth (not using his stealth attack) to attack he wont get the revealed debuff, so then he can stealth again.
I’ve come here immediately after experiencing this thief in WvW popping in and out of stealth during combat so quickly he couldn’t of been visable for more than a second. Is this working as intended?
People were commenting on it as he zipped around a ground of abotu 20 of us. we finally managed to snare him thanks to an automated turret and AoE the space where we imagined him to be (he had restealthed again) It took forever to take him out after he destroyed one of our siege weapons.
I thought once you attacked you had a 3 second reveal debuff placed on you. I am wrong?
if you use cloak and dagger right before stealth wears off, you will re-stealth right as you come out. it can be done as long as you can find a target to hit and it sounds like he was doing that.they were going to make leaving stealth give revealed, which would have fixed the issue, but nope, 4 second revealed instead, not fixing the issue that they admitted existed and having to revert it to 3 seconds in PvE the next month. huh, that turned into a bit of a rant, sorry

Click ESC/Options/Graphics Options/WvWvW Character Limit change from Lowest to Highest.
Or he re-stealth after stealth = zero time to next stealth and only trolling you
BTW 20 people hunt one Thief like a noobs is stupid

This is not normal. I have experienced this too, a group of 5 chasing the thief while he took out a mesmer and my thief while spamming emotes. After checking combat log, we noticed he was also immune to all the aoe by the mesmer.

We have no abilities that make us immune to any damage, except for blind. So either the Mesmer were blinded or he missed all the attacks. There’s simply no possible way for the thief to be immune to any damage. So this particular event sounds like a hacker…

ahahah 1 vs 5 and he took out 2 of you… nice job.
btw i never noticed combat log to report about immune… maybe that mesmer bursted thin air and the thief was somewhere else spamming emotes…

So some thieves say you can and others say you can’t. Some say you could then couldn’t and now can again.
All I know is being visable for only 1 second at a time is bullkitten.
You can pretty much remain permanently stealthed with proper timing, skills and initiative management (plus trait setup).
Although if you want to learn how to beat thieves and figure out what they’re doing it’s best to roll one and try it out.

Re-read the posts, you’re not being told one thing and then told another. Here’s the facts, ignore whatever else you’re being told that contradicts these things:
- Unless the Thief was hacking, they were not immune to any damage.
- If he was coming out of stealth for a very short duration of time (definitely less than the 3 second revealed duration time) then he was most likely using a dagger off hand and using dagger #5 Cloak and Dagger which does a half-decent amount of damage and puts the Thief in stealth for 3 seconds (4 if traited).
- If this is what he was doing then the fact that you were finally able to catch him via CC is exactly how it should have played out and now you know for next time to CC him sooner.
- While doing this his damage is pitiful and actually managing to kill AND stomp anyone would be a miracle.
Hope I cleared that up for you.
all is vain

I will eventually once I unlock some more slots. In the meantime they always remain a bit of a mystery with the crazy stealth things they can do.
I’ve come to live with the burst damage, its not being able to target them which is doing my head in.
There are multiple ways to enter stealth:
- combo: smoke field+leap or blast
- utilities: blinding powder / shadow refuge ecc…
- weapon skill: dagger off-hand skill n°5 (C&D)
- trait: last refuge (cast blinding powder at 25% hp)
- heal skill: hide in shadows
ok, now you are in stealth for few seconds (usually 3-4)
if you make an attack that does direct damage (not a field) you will gain an undispellable buff called “revealed” that prevents you to re-enter stealth for 3 seconds.
if you, while stealthed, do nothing and you wait for stealth to wears off, you won’t get “revealed” buff and you can re-enter stealth immediately.
Common way is C&D, wait, C&D, wait , C&D, wait …. if rightly timed you can virtually permastealth but you do few to no damage and any dodge / blind / knockback / knockdown / immobilize can destroy that little trick.
So your group of 5 should bring some utility skill on the field…

- he wasn’t, but no one could tag him. We randomly dropped AoE, swung mindlessly in the area he disappeared. But he moved around so quickly it was difficult to do any real damage to him.

- ok this must of been it. Because it was seriously between .5 second to 1 second max.
- If this is what he was doing then the fact that you were finally able to catch him via CC is exactly how it should have played out and now you know for next time to CC him sooner.
- no one was able to react fast enough to re-target him and then apply some CC, the engineers turret was the only way we finally managed because that was instant. and he still went into stealth
- While doing this his damage is pitiful and actually managing to kill AND stomp anyone would be a miracle.
-he killed no one. because we had 20 guys circling the area laying down AoE, but he did manage to take out one of the siege weapons which takes a few hits to be destroyed. It still took forever to take out one guy. No other class would of lasted 1/20th of the time this guy did

Yup we were 99% sure he was a hacker.
I’ve experienced the same thing a few days ago, and I couldn’t believe that a thief could kill me and my buddy in the middle of af camp we were defending.
He kep’t popping in and out of stealth, hitting us very hard at the same time.
I wen’t down so fast that you thought about rubbing your eyes, because this can’t be happening.
After killing us, he cleared the camp with ease, and never got under 80% hp.
Then we waypointed and looked out for him.
When we found him, he just owned us once again, plus another random person.
We just couldn’t believe it!!!

This is very easy for a dodger thief to do if you just randomly spam aoe… You need to stun lock him to have effect. Burst rifle warrior also destroys any thief like that. I play a thief like that and I can easily roll against 5 medicore players who don’t have heavy damage builds. Yes, I’ve been called a hacker too. ;D
No hacker is immune to damage. To get damage immunity you would haveto crack into anet’s server, which would be quite difficult. Not something a random script kiddy can pull off.

You clearly have no idea how hacks work. To state hacks have not made it to this game is funny…

Speaking of hacks I was fighting another Thief with mine and he kept CnDing from 600M away lol.

I don’t know if this is a hack or not…but WvW is full of what seems to be terrain glitches. I player can stand in a certain spot and not get hit by anything…even if you are in their faces. This could be a glitch or a hack…I don’t know.
ive seen this before and being a thief that does all the tricks out there….this usually sounds like a hacker. there is no way a CND troller is taking out siege against 20 people. aint happening. ive seen space hacks…speed hacks….invis hacks….and cross class skill hacks….even a dmg hack once.
EDIT: let me qualify this and say that it is extremely rare as these people are easy for anet to spot after being reported….. just report for botting and they will be banned. no worries. alot of them are low lvl thieves on throw away accounts just so they can have fun for a while.

Have you seen what I mention? Or did the guy have some crazy insane Aussie lag?

Are yo serious? A group of 5 who couldn’t prevent a thief from killing and stomping one of them with C&D? I mean, C&D is like 3-4k every 4 seconds, the 5 of you together should be able to out-heal that, no? Nobody had blind? Aegis? Something defensive?

there is incredible lag going on …and it seems to be server based right now…but its usually skill lag and not visually based. if it seems off and somethign you never see even by the best thieves….its more often then not hacking. i experience one hacker every couple to few weeks at the extremem most…. seems anet has been cleaning up. so yeah if its only 1 person and hes trolling one area and seems impossible and not a CND troller (even a cnd troller would take 30 mins to kill a siege equip if they didnt aoe the area around it) then its more than likely a hacker. the best thieves go for kills….not just trolling….doesnt make sense
@franz ….its very rare but ive seen it. not to brag but im a very good thief and the thigns ive seen are just impossible.
