Guild Wars 2

Just started the game yesterday, my thief is now lvl 12. I just got the trait unlock now with the trainer and I have questions about those traits. I was wondering if it’s better to put all your points in 1 categories for example put all the points in shadow arts, or split them up equally in the 5 traits? I’m not level 80 yet so I’m not sure how many points I’ll have.

My character has currently a 8% critical hit chance but the critical hit damage is only 1.. which is weird. So I’m guessing that putting points in critical hits will make that better? But I also want to put points in the shadow arts because I like stealth lol. So what makes a better thief? Dividing the points in the trait or focusing on only 1 trait?

For leveling you don’t have much choice,because you have caps on what max point can you put according to your level.If i recall correctly you cannot put 20 points in same trait line unless u have lvl 40,(same for lvl 20 and 60)so pretty much you are kinda forced to spread the points.At level 80 you have many options,but usualy you will have 1 or/and 2 maximized traits at least.But you need the leveling procces to begin to understand the traits purpose well.So don’t worry for that at this moment.

You will have 70 trait points to spend.

You can use a build calculator to test combinations (http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/). Some skills and traits may have been changed, but, in the overall, it is a good parameter.

The allocation of the traits depends on what kind of thief you want to be. Oh, and you will be able to reset it, so don’t worry too much.

Also @Slinx,you can always go to Heart of The Mists(the PvP lobby).There you are lvl 80,have all skills,all weapons,runes and sigils are for free.Also resetting is free,you have dummies and training npc’s.You can test and test and test until you decide what gameplay you like most.
P.S.You go to Heart of the Mists by pressing the Crossed Swords button(upper left at the screen). Then you press “Go To Heart Of The Mists” button.

Just experiment, resetting doesn’t cost much. You’ll know what you want by the time you hit 80. (oh, and always put multitudes of 5 in each tree, obviously)
