One other thing to note in the next beta revenant will have a stolen item for thief. It’ll be basically a more powerful version of Essence Sap.

Sounds promising to me. Slow is one of those effects that is very underrepresented, and as of HoT Thief will have two sources of it! Now if we could just get that Dark Field on Staff #4…

Slow is cool and really good, it will be a nice stolen skill against everyone, not only revenant.

Resistance and quickness should be added to plasma like 2-3s skill

I do not think I have ever been at the other end of a slow myself . have any succumbed and just how negative are the effects?

Would you rather be chilled then slowed?

Now take a skill like whirling axe the warrior skill that has a 3.5 second activation time. is it conceivable one can benefit from being slowed and that whirling axe goes to 5.2 secs? Does daggerstrom go to a 20 second hail of daggers or am i not understanding how it works?

Its actually quite devastating. Everything is so painfully slow, very hard to land skills and you are so easily interupted, stomps take ages. But you can get benefits too, if the skill has evade frames, they are increased. Whirling axe probably does last 5.2s (though it does the same damage overall).

Thus far, most thief stolen skills represented counters to respective classes. I cannot fathom how a slow skill in any way or form will counteract a revenant (considering how powerful revenants are on beta tests, as is). Please reconsider this futile stolen skill, ANet.

So in theory If I am slowed as a thief i can get 11 seconds of reflect using daggerstorm? (my number above at 20 was an error) and a whirl that lasts as long? The stability pulse is affected as well going to 3 at 4.5 seconds or does it stay at 3 seconds ?

I laughed, then I felt sad because it’s true.

On a related note: Just what’s up with all sorts of events having huge, undodgeable, always-on AoEs that stack conditions? This started with the Toxic Offshoots but now the Mordrem events seem to do it a lot too, and it’s just impossible to deal with as a Thief.
Hell, we can’t even properly attack from outside that range. Pistol and Shortbow are both pretty mediocre weapons.

It just the name of the skill . So what it it the name of their downed skill. They have slow in a weaponset as well. The only concern one should have is whether it will be useful in combat and for that I am willing to wait and see. We have the same complaints about Gunk being useless when i find it one of the better stolen skills.

Mesmers do not even have a skill called consume plasma and people seem to have no issues with that. fear also happens to be on the list of the necros downed skills so are we stealing a downed skill?

I do not see the issue.

Who cares what it’s called and where it’s “from”? Slow is a powerful effect barely represented in the game at all, so it’s good we’re getting more of it. The only pre-HoT Slow in the game is Mesmer’s Time Warp and Necro corrupting a Quickness boon.

Also, i see big problem with it because atm i can double dodge/withdraw through sowrd 3 and maybe stay alive, if the spell is slower however i would need like 5 dodges to avoid absurdly high dmg from that spell. Frankly i don’t see how this specific stolen spell is actually useful vs revenant in particular.

If it makes skills slow, wouldn’t you just be able to strafe away from a Sword3 Revy and not even have to use a dodge at all. Just side step him through it.

Wrong it’s “3 more years to go”. It’s ironic how they switched places as I was randomly focusing more on necro than thief, even if you don’t go Reaper it’s alright no lines or specs were harmed in its making just a trait. Even the forums are switching aura “he who knows his name” will eventually understand or maybe the real balance patch is hiding unknown goodies and sense meaning he’s a mean joker.

Firstly I did not say throw gunk was better then virtually anything else in the game. Heartseeker is a skill , Rampage is a skill , Mass invisibility is a skill and Throw gunk is not better than any of those. I said it was one of our better stolen skills.

Secondly there were several topics discussing the usage of this skill already. Now from what I read you have a hard time getting yourself out of the downed state in the game so can understand it might be difficult to use throw gunk when you are always downed but that said.

In a condition build using either whirl or projectile finishers one can get multiple stacks of confusion on an enemy. It not unusal to get 5 and more stacks even on an enemy that is “moving” and this in addition to any stacks such a build might get off BA in the trickster line. This will do a condition thief more good than would something like whirling axe.

Secondly for both power and condition builds one can gain Chaos armor. You can get this for 5 or 10 seconds every 20 seconds if fighting an engineer which is more access than a Mesmer has off their weapon set. Chaos armor can inflict up to 5 conditions and grant 5 boons in its 5 second window and with improv you can get 10 seconds of this if wished. This provides boons such as protection , swiftness and regeneration while inflicting combinations of confusion blind and cripple.

It one of the thiefs best accesses to protection and one of the few available. It also very useful in a zerg fight where you throw gunk into the middle of the battle and follow up with cluster bomb from your SB. This will give all allies in the area 3 seconds of Chaos armor and provide them that access to blind/cripple/confusion switfness/regeneration and protection. If you had improv traited they can all gain 6 seconds of the same. Regen, protection and swiftness all stack durations .

It a very useful stolen item.
