[video]S/D evasive. Zerg frontline (testing)
Based on your videos, you’re obviously a good player, so I just wanted to get that out of the way. I don’t however see double s/d being “freakin awesome” here. You’re only good in that enemy front line for as long as you can evade, and often have to withdraw to wait for cd’s, getting hp/initiative back up in between. You don’t bring any combo fields to support your team and it takes a while to actually get players down. With better weapons that time would have been reduced of course, but I still think it would be lacking in damaging fast enough.
D/p however would take most of those upleveled characters down with a backstab and a heartseeker. As you probably already know, s/d and d/p go together actually quite well and the synergy gives a thief a lot more tools than simply spamming 2-3-3-3-3-3-3-2 90% of the time. I think this combo will always be superior to double s/d in wvw because of its versatility. It’s great that you’re trying out new things though.

Actually, I beg to differ. Essentially, a thief’s combo field is not as valuable as other profession’s. That being said, a thief is more needed to throw off the zerg’s game or divert them to distraction. Combo fields and support isn’t everything to a zerg. Face tanking and being up in the face plays a major role as well (if not, even more). sword main set is best for zerg vs zerg imho. You get in and you get out, rinse and repeat. I don’t main D/P so I wouldn’t know how useful they are in zergs but, I strongly believe the best mobility is the best way to go.
I main s/d and I agree that it is very good for getting in and out, and face tanking to an extent. But limiting yourself to just this one weapon set I think is inferior to using a combination of weapon sets in wvw at least. I didn’t see any play here that left me with the feeling that this was “freakin awesome”.
I also wouldn’t underestimate the mobility of d/p. For example, shadow shot from d/p also makes it quite mobile when in combat- you basically have a 900 range shadowstep directly to your opponent on demand, which is great for catching people and getting into combat. Heartseeker of course also is another mini gap closer with good damage. S/d however, is limited to its one 600 range infiltrator strike, which you likely used up already to get into combat in the first place. FS does make the set mobile, but once your enemy is out of range, you’re left struggling trying to reach your opponent unless you blow a utility or steal is up. Both sets have their advantages and disadvantage, which is why I argue that more variety is better. Personally, it’s also more fun for me than just spamming 2-3-3-3-3-3-3-2 all the time.

they’re wasting their skills on me which i can frequently dodged. stealing their boons, and sometimes offense is a great way to victory!
and i can’t do 333 unli evade spam now cuz Larcenous strike cost 2 init. now it’s usually 2+infiltrator’s signet. 33+1 then a quick evade to cancel the animation of #1 slice
where is this zerg you guys are talking about? I see like maybe 10-15 people in front of a keep max. You down maybe 2 people and dont stomp anybody. It seems like for 80% of this video you are just flopping like a fish in between a buncha dudes swinging your sword, doing pretty marginal damage and not accomplishing much. Im glad you THINK you’re doing all sorts of great things but i just don’t see it – the fact is that if you were a tad bit glassier, and short bow auto attacking/CBing that “zerg” without any breaks in between you would be doing much more damage and providing a blast finisher… I mean you didn’t even use dagger storm, basilisk venom in a zerg fight? breakin my heart… If this was a true 30+ zerg you’d have alot harder time with that style of combat.
Just a suggestion: if you want to go for a melee style of play in a zerg battle (regards to open field) you should be stalking near the outliers of their group picking off people who wonder off from the ball, or picking off reinforcements. Looks like you’re having fun though so kutos.

superior rune of lyssa bro thats why im using basilisk venom. gain all boon and remove all conditions. and if i use dagger storm i gonna eat all their aoe and melee attacks on me LOL. and this is just a test run. if i get all my armors/weapons/sigils that i want.. that wud be better. lets say 15invaders on the ground and another 5 on the upper side defending and casting AOE.
well if i gonna do it in massive zerg. massive lagg kills me also so i cant do all these stuff in 30man zerg. maybe in small scale fight or “mini zerg”
