withdraw forward?
I figure those who do it completely seamlessly have it macro’d. Maybe someone else can chime in and prove me wrong.

The majority of the time I can do it seamlessly without having to stop. Part of that is probably due to binding the about face to a mouse button. Honestly is a bit of a practice thing though, once its muscle memory to do it without stopping its really not to difficult.

I have about-face and withdraw bound to caps lock and q respectively, makes it easy for me to do it smoothly. The actual button combo is less important than simply practicing the manoeuvre though.
Try practicing withdrawing forwards into a cloak and dagger off a target in HotM, it’s a good way to get the combo and roll distance set in your mind.

What? It is very easy to do it, no need to macro it. I use a Razer Nostromo for playing, but the rare times I play on my laptop I can still do it without any issues.
Yeah I have an ‘about face’ key (Q) and just click withdraw. Sometime suffers a bit of lag depending on animations going on so takes some getting used to. As the withdraw is happening, i rotate camera towards where i’m going on keep heading forward when withdraw animation ends.
bound about face. press r to run , about face , heal ,about face

In your video, you walk backward for a split second. Is it all about speed of pressing keys?
That’s actually my problem. I don’t want to walk backward nor stopping movement. I notice actually withdraw not a really speed boost. I think the covered distance is pretty similar with people walking with swiftness.

Do you use free camera? If yes, how can you keep the camera still?

left click on the ground → about face → withdraw
i have alt+\ bound for about face and alt+1 for withdraw so it’s just like a double tap. during withdraw animation i turn the camera using mouse.
Helps to have a somewhat high sensitivity mouse to turn camera in a split second and direct it. I’ve tried the about face key (turns your camera 180 degrees) but I feel a slight pause and sometimes trying to combine the 2 I actually withdraw back and then turn around (could just be skill lag). Either way, turning my mouse around hasn’t failed me yet but you have to get used to a somewhat quick turning camera.
break. I feel like they should be back by now..”
To do the froward withdraw seamlessly you actually need 2 keybinds other than withdraw itself. Tbh, the above posts are kind of complicating the issue by having you rotate with your mouse etc – No need.
- Bind About Face
- Bind Free Camera
(I have C+V)
You can bind the two next to each other, press them at the same time and withdraw – easy. You’ll withdraw forward, and your character will rotate, NOT your camera, getting you in to the fight without the hassle of rotating your camera altogether.

Yeah, I use free camera. I’ll drag the camera off centre a smidge using left click so it’s not bound to my char, use about-face>withdraw and during the withdraw animation I’ll hold right click again to refocus the camera in my direction of travel. It sounds complicated but once you get the muscle memory down it’s really simple to do.
There is a very slight delay on my method as well, the only way you’ll not turn for a split second is if you turn the camera using the mouse really. I also have a high sensitivity on my mouse so I can do either. If you dodge then withdraw, you’ll have time during the dodge to aim the camera without being a sitting duck.

About face while running, again s, withdraw, while flying flick back around or use about face again. With practice you can get it fluent with running so it just looks like you front flip foward and keep running.
