Anyone else hate Standing-still abilities?
I really wish the Hammer knockback (#4) could be used while moving. The self-root can be pretty painful given most players clear out/dodge it due to the wind up time.
My main issue with hammer 4 is that hammer is obviously an attacking weapon, not a defensive one, so that 4 skill is basically just another interrupt. Yet, you can’t use it offensively very easily. You basically have to stun a target, stand right in the middle of their body, then use the skill and hope they don’t dodge out of it, as that’s the only time they can’t just walk outside of its range.
Roots in general are bad skills. Hopefully most will be removed from the game at some point. Rooting is something that should only be used on skill designs that would otherwise just be too powerful. I don’t think many people are going to be complaining about the hammer cripple ability if you could actually move while you use it. I get the feeling whoever was responsible for it just thought it looked better, at the time.
I’d prefer if it was just removed from the game altogether, on any class.
Self rooting abilities do not fit in a game where mobility is key. Helping the enemy cut your mobility is a very stupid design.
All abilities should be able to be used on the move.
On the contrary, they fit in perfectly, in moderation. Choosing whether mobility, or a certain ability is more important at the time divides the good players from those who just spam whatever’s strongest.
Take killshot for example. Imagine you’re approaching an enemy on a capture point. Is it a good idea to take the killshot early, before the opponent notices you, and possibly make the match a guarenteed victory, or is it more important you stop the opponent from capturing/neutralizing, and getting on the point?
But do we have to have MELEE abilities be stand-still? Argh.
It’s like they promoted the game as innovatively casting on the move, but now it’s melee can’t move lol.
A: frenzy, both.
Also, giving killshot something like 3/4 the damage and a reduced cast and no root would if nothing else have the potential to solve all the whining about it while actually making it more useful.
Guardians had their self rooting Elites changed to be more mobile. Nobody can deny that support book is very useful/effective. The less mobility = more damage/whatever is silly.
Also, as similar to the above poster, I find it funny that you can cast on the move but melee has the self rooting abilities. Lets make it harder to stay in melee, while everyone else can kite easier.

I wish all abilities are designed so that they can be used while moving without being overpowered. That would make combat much more fun and fluid. In addition, as others have pointed out, self-rooting abilities have no place in a game where constant movement is crucial for survival. Strategies can still be utilized in a game without such abilities.

Roots/frenzy.
Don’t have enough mobility to hit a target? Keep your opponent from moving.
