I’ve hit level 80, and I would like some opinion before getting my level 80 armor for my warrior (using Greatsword and Rifle). After doing some reading, I found that I could get Vigil armor set which adds Power, Toughness and Vitality stats for about 9 golds which I do have at the moment.

After that, I’ll save up karma until I could afford Exotic Karma armor, which at 240k karma I could get Exotic karma armor with Toughness and Vitality stats (will be lesser by 5 due to lack of such helm but no big deal I guess) and the additional stats in armor and power.

The reason why I’m thinking of this plan is because I want to have some survivability.

So its this an okay plan? Or is just a waste of time.

Thanks

You can become a mobile fortress using Pow/Tou/Vit gear and an appropriate spec, however you still have some weaknesses in the form of condition damage unless you counter that with 6 piece Soldier runes, or the Warhorn trait. ~60-70% non-condition damage reduction is possible if you go all out, however you will not be able to DPS terribly well unless you rely on bleeds.

Alternatively, you can still go an offensive spec with this gear set and simply abuse the fact you can take a hit, unlike glass cannon specs.

Warriors are probably the most ideally balanced class. You can sit anywhere you want on the scale of DPS to Survivability.

I would highly advise finding a play style you like first, before building your Exotic set.

From personal experience unless your planning on going condition build, Power/ toughness + vitality armor / trinkets are the best you can go for.
Why you ask?

You can go either way in an offensive build or a defensive build without having to farm armour for either one. All you have to do is swap your traits around + runes / gems to suit your build. Even as a “glass cannon build” you will still have the survivability you want and still put out great damage.

You can get this armor with these stats from AC / HOTW, Orr temple vendors or WvW (if you have badges).

Remember that POWER is the cake, crit / crit damage is just the cherry on top.

Basically, for a warrior there are only 2 types of gear you could want: Knight’s type (Pwr/Vit/Tuf) or Berserker (Pwr/Vit/Tuf).

What type you want depends on the role you want to fill with your warrior. Personally, I find a mix of berkerker/knight to be the most effective for me. If this is the way you chose to go, bear in mind that crit damage does not scale linearly with other stats because of the low numbers it has on each piece of gear and the way the are “rounded”. What this means is, that depending on which gear layout you chose, you can actually get different stat totals, so planning your layout ahead does have some merits.

For a great explanation, have a look at this:

“As far as gear goes, a balanced between knights and berserker is based on the below stat comparison on what you lose per 1% of crit damage (credit to Reddit – paradiselight).
The tradeoff for 1% of crit damage is equal to:

5 stat points – upgrade slot of trinkets and backpack
10 stat points- traits (not an equipment, but listed for comparison)
12 stat points – glove, shoulder and boots
12.8 stat points – 1H weapons and amulet
13.33 stat points – Earring
14 stat points – Backpack (rare version from guild armorsmith)
14.22 stat points – 2H weapons
14.4 stat points – Coat
16 stat points – Ring, helm and legging"

On a slightly related note:
If you want to replace it with exotics relatively soon, vigil gear is most likely not worth it. Rare gear as well as exotics are relatively cheap on the tp (~2-3g per piece for berserker exotics), or farmed easily in dungeons, so you could very well just jump from greens to exotics.

Hi hornet, i got a full exotics set of Power, Vit and Toug ( AC one).
I run with exotic GS, Rifle and Longbow.
My trait line is 10/10/25/25.
And i can tell you, im a BEAST.
I can deal really BIG damage with GS, and with rifle and LG conditions damage ( i use the sigils to my conditions last 10% more ).
And i can survive SO much.
Most of time i use some banners, wich makes me and my party even stronger.

I recomend you start using a LG, amazing AOE´s damage, and he deals more damage than Rifle.

Some comments:
If you go 25 in tactics, it’s probably better to go 30 and get either shout healing or regen on banners.
Axe actually does slightly better dps then gs, longbow is usually better at range then rifle. If you try to boost condition duration, make sure you always end up at full second intervals, because damage only tics once every second. 10% condition duration does nothing for you if you end up at 6.6s bleed per rifle shot.

Could be thinking about something else maybe how it handles condition damage itself, but I did some testing and I remember it seemed to add an additional tick accurately based on the decimal like if you had a 6.6s bleed it would get 7 ticks 6/10ths of the time instead of 6. Could be totally wrong sorry if I am.

I am currently playing a GS (off hand I switch between rifle, longbow and axe/mace) warrior with high burst damage and some survivability. I have full knights armor with valkyrie accessories and 20/30/0/0/20 traits. I get around 2500 armor and 21.5K HP, which I find adequate. The damage revolves around building up might stacks with the arms trait for GS. With the might stacks and some vulnerability stacks from traits/GS 1, I have seen GS 1 hits as high as 4250 damage on WvW camp supervisor. 100B goes up to 18k regularly, but have seen as high as 22.5k.

Just a heads up i didnt read everyones replies but you can get exotic PTV gear from AC and its cheaper then all the other dungeons. Also i run Exotic PTV with Knight’s assc and my stats are as with hammer 3k attack 3337 armor 25k health 47% crit chance. with sword and shield combo 2800 attack 3488 armor 25k health 57% crit chance. For a secondary i will always run a longbow for range and the good dmg it can put out. I rune 6 dolyak runes and my traits are 20 20 20 10 0. I have three different regens going at all times one from my signet one from the rune and another from the trait adrenal health it turns out to be like 580 every 3 secs and 250 every second. With this trait setup i can trait into all the warrior weps except for longbow.

I am a force to be reckoned with in dungeons especially with my hammer cause i can control mobs like they are my pets. And if i have my hammer buddy mobs really have a tough time. And if your worried about damage if you run your hammer right you can still crit 3k with a single hammer skill 2-5 and your burst skill.

I hope this gives you a good perspective
