Is it even worth going for a healing support role with the warrior if I’m just going to be PUGing?

I started off using a healing shouts build. While the condition removal is really nice with soldier runes, the amount healed seems extremely little, especially in a group of range dps when sometimes the whole group isn’t effected. The main utility with the shouts seems to be their ordinary effects, the gain for speccing into them seemed very little

I then tried healing banners – if I used healing signet + adrenal healing + the banner regen, I personally was extremely tanky, and I feel like it brought a more reliable and constant support to the group, as I could also use two utilities for shouts alongside it. But in the vast majority of groups there would be atleast one guardian/elementalist, and it seems like 80% of the time, my regen would be overriden by theirs. Or atleast they would have regen up most of the time on their own, meaning my support was pretty much redundant.

So the question seems to be: 1) lack-lustre shout healing, that works alongside other classes heals or 2) more reliable banner healing that is often redundant.

Any advice/opinions for a disheartened warrior? Have I rolled the wrong class if I want to focus on support? Is it better to go as full DPS as possible and let that be my contribution to the group?

I would say, I tested these in half knights/half berserker gear – is the damage loss in switching to +healing gear worth it?

I always go a semi-tanky shout support build in pugs (unless i’m farming cof) because I don’t trust pugs and I don’t want to spend omnom ghosts to keep myself alive in zerker gear.

“Are “support” warriors really worth it?" ~ OP

Nope.

Stupid character limit. Ok, Nope because shout heals scale TERRIBLY bad and you sacrifice far too much to get the number off the heal that should be baseline.

If you go full cleric your shout will heal 10% of your HP…. if you were wearing berserker gear with absolutely 0 in the vitality tree. Full clerics for a heal that can be removed by an auto attack crit….

The shouts themselves are lackluster. FGJ is a buff-bot spam button (basically a signet of rage) and shake it off only removes 1 condition. Fear me is on a huge cooldown and OMM is a single target vun debuff.

Banners scale better, provid blast finishers and you only need 1, with cd trait. However they are clunky and silly to try and use in any setting other than PvE.

Usually the best ‘support’ a warrior brings to a group is rolling pure GC with a GS and blowing everything up.

Hammer Warr with CC spam is basically CC support.

I would say a tank spec Hammer + x/Mace combined with the shout cleanse Runes and a Shout build would basically be a support Warrior, and relatively useful.

Gear-wise would still be Soldier stat, or similar tank style.

Seems odd that people always focus on heals when speaking of “support”. Guess I played too much DotA and LoL.

Personaly I prefer knights gear over soldiers for a moderatly tanky build. Pushing the crit rate up helps keep damage high and the lost HP from not haveing the VIT is normaly not a big issue pve. I also think healing banners are worth it even with a guardian/elementalist around. Neither are likely to have 100% uptime on regen and are a bit more constrained on the area of effect. a single banner can blanket a fairly wide area and does so passivly along with the baseline buff on it. About the only clunky thing about banners IMO is that movement bug if you try to pick them up on the move as droping them is as quick as a weaponswap, if you have to abandon the banner due to movement so be it.
