Are we Warriors or Casters?
What are you even talking about.
You have a ‘cast bar’ because that is for the animation of your swing.
Do you think you should just walk into melee range and suddenly the enemy takes 1000 damage in 0.1 sec because you pushed 11111111111111111 real quick?
In WvW, just try to place yourself in situations and locations where melee is the best position, where you cannot easily be kited, and where you aren’t alone. Other than that, use rifle or longbow for siege and other situations where range is best.
The point in this game is that every profession is viable at all ranges, and so far only the guardian fails at this, so I think anet did a reasonable job in that regard. Though I agree that melee should be stronger than it is now.. as it is now, range is always better than melee, regardless of the profession (except thieves, who are really strong at all ranges).
Especially in pve this is the case, because monsters do such insane melee damage and have such insane health pools. In dungeons and events you’re always better off using your ranged weapons.
But a warrior is good at all ranges too, at least in pve.

lol just walk into melee range without a single hit by the opponents? Just walk? Riiiight.
Firstly i dont have to spam 1111111111111111111 real quick cause its on auto attack.
Secondly, GW2 Limited Melee attack skills on the skill bar we are forced to auto attack. When other skills are on cd.
Thirdly i think there’s a way to Dodge or Stealth or Block or Blind or Bash or Stun or KD or Running in this game, so why worry bout getting 1000+ hit by a Warrior that walk/rush/dash at ya? hmm…..
By the way do you even play other mmorpg in the first place.
And do you know that melees in every mmos DO NOT have a cast bar for attacks unless its a spell. And if im not wrong all melees in those mmos instant attacks provide an animation swing isnt it
*Fanboys Corner : so go play those mmos? yea been playing a couple of mmos and still playing no worries

Why is it a problem to have a bar that shows you your skill execution speed?
What is the point of this thread? Are you asking a question? Seeking confirmation? Just trolling?
Because as we’ve seen, you already have a set opinion. And that makes you asking a question rather silly.
Zsymon – In short, the problem is Attack Delay. We are melee and 90% of our attacks need to be in melee range, we cant have an Attack Delay cause we will miss and skills will go on recharge.
Ivanov.8914 – Yes asking question but what confirmation? Its not been answered yet by Anet or Anyone who know whats going on, so what confirmation? lol!
And just Trolling? O you dont wanna see me troll trust me matey if you now me from WoW, Loong – Power of Dragons, RIFT etc etc… furthermore our in-game id is shown here i dont have to troll trust me.
Anyways thats my opinion, i wanna know what others think especially the Developers – Arenanet. Why are there casting bars for melees? Are we Short Range Casters?
Head Desk Desk Desk.
Completer of the World, Wielder of the Charrzooka Rifle, Master of Weapon and Armorsmithing
… also makes a mean truffle stew.
Why would casting time be limited only to spells? In GW1, all types of skills had casting times. This even included gasps attack skills.
Think of the cast bar as your attack duration. In wow or any other MMO with “instant” attacks, there is a delay between auto attacks so can’t just use a macro to hit your opponent with 100 auto attacks over a 1 or 2 second span. The cast bar does the exact same thing.
Agreed that there is slight delay with melee instant attack on other mmos including wow. There should be a delay or there are no animation. Yes.
But here in GW2 there is that delay + casting time for melee attacks.
That is the difference.
Yes, I too want my warrior to instantly down anyone when I get into melee range.
All this strategy is hard.
Are we human, or are we dancers?
That’s all I could think when I read the title. Anyway, it takes time to swing a weapon, especially a large weapon. I like it, personally.
“He’s like a man with a fork in a world of soup.”
yes, we’re melee casters.
/thread
The only ability that has a cast time ( and needs to be removed) is Signet of Rage. /thread

You can move while you attack.
In WoW the weapon’s “cast time” is the weapon speed. In fact, pretty sure warriors in WoW (at least I did) used an attack speed timer mod for properly timing mortal strike with their normal attack (for burst), and using the bar so “on next strike” attacks could be timed better. It’s really not all that different minus the very first auto attack.

Really? I thought this is Lego Online!
In WoW the weapon’s “cast time” is the weapon speed.
That’s the point. Wow weapon “cast time” is the weapon speed.
Here in GW2 weapon cast time + weapon speed = more delays
Playing melee in Wow or even RIFT is like typing with a keyboard.
But playing melee for GW2 is like typing with an old typewriter.
@Jabronee: That’s where you wrong, melee in WoW = macro macro macro, over all nothing but 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 macros galore double taping. Rift = EVEN MORE MACROS. Search any guide on any class, you get no explanation only macros also the kitten game reaction time to a key press is beyond horrible. GW2 got a casting so you know an animation is going on and let you know you can interrupt said animation at any given time. /castcancel in your macro?
Also if you take macros out and go WoW you will see stupid slow casting bars in warriors as well, such as when you use Slam. Go warrior without macros on RIFT or even with macros, -press X to use C- character takes his time to react does the same animation for everything and then takes his time again for my next command.
@Lyonell. That’s where you dont get it.
Fyi GW2 1st Skill is already on macro.
And macros Do Not speed up attack animations nor actions.
Its just to ease up on the rotations or minimise key press due to the huge amount of skills in other mmos.
The OP is about the action delays on key pressed due to cast time for melee attacks.
20 bucks says OP is a GS lover and is just mad because he can’t instantly hit someone 8 times with hundred blades in .1 seconds before they move out of range.
OP is a kitten.
Saying that just cause other MMO’s have warriors with no cast times does not help your argument in any way, why? because Guild Wars is not like other MMO’s, if you want to have a instant spam warrior then go play other MMO’s and stop your complaining.

And you are kitten p00 cause you never scroll up i guess.
Yes as i’ve mentioned, i am still playing other mmos no worries there.. thanks for your suggestion but youre slow. And if you think OP is about instant spam then you have no idea at all lol!
Please go back to your Casters forums ty.

Swinging a heavy weapon = casting spells now apparently. =p

Of course it is… noticed the 1/2 or 3/4 timer lately?
And that Plus the Animation.
I noticed it weeks ago ;P

Now who is the troll lmao!
with pic!
This thread should just be closed for sheer stupidity. This entire topic is irrelevant and obnoxious. Definitely a troll thread.
You can use an Immobiliser like Bolas if you miss melee attacks. Though I see it as the cast bar is the time it takes for the actual skill to finish, when I use a GS, the cast bar moves as I’m swinging the sword.
Oh and at the moment Warriors are better at Range than Rangers so there’s no need to roll a Ranger if you want to Range 60-80% of the time.

Obvious troll is obvious.
If you don’t like the GW2 UI/combat system … play another game ?
I explained this in a previous thread.
You have inductions on skills. Inductions can be channels or casts. These do not correlate with the character class but to the use of skills. A channel is interrupted if the avatar moves or is interrupted by stun, daze, etc. A cast is not interrupted by moving and is interrupted by stun, daze, etc. The last is an instant skill which is a shout that instantly activates and has no induction.

O hell yea i am. So you think GW2 is the ONLY mmo that people play? lol!
Scroll up. I know you are too eager to post and its like calling people trolls is a lifetime achievement for you but please learn to scroll up when reading forums. Ty

Almost all skills have a cast time so that enemies can read what your next attack is and interrupt it if they need to avoid it.
Instant cast skills are more like your panic buttons. With mace i take ages to hit with tremor, but pommel bash is like the blink of an eye. Because Tremor is a powerful, line based 1200 range knockdown, and pommel bash is the skill you quickly use to interrupt Tremor when you see it coming.
Jabronee- Do me a favor, quickly make a level 1 of any other profession and tell me which one has no “casting” bar on their attacks. This may answer your question as to what you’re trying to ask…
Dude I’m playing a GS warrior, have been since the 27th of August. Haven’t kittened about this once. Know why? It isn’t a problem.
You might want to take a hint from the fact that you’re pretty much the only one complaining about this, or just one of the -very few-.
For shame Anet actually makes you have to appropriately time things to hit your target because making a game take skill is such a sin. Cause, you know, WoW certainly takes -tons- of skill to play.
Coughs up blood
Oh god, look at that. I’ve said that line so many times I’ve contracted a severe case of bronchitis.
Krytikal3125 – So you trying to say the time between skill pressed and the time the action started is skill play? /facepalm
I wonder why WoW melees dont have casting time for attacks. Does that mean WoW melees have no skills? lol try Duelling any WoW melees and you’ll see if melees there aint skillful (Vid pls).
And you know why im the -very few- who dare to bring up this topic against tons of GW2 Fanboys/Gals?
Cause most just cant be bothered cause they know its BS to have casting time for melee skills. They just roll another class or go back to their previous mmos to play melee class.
And for me i’m trying to love running melees in GW2 due its action base combat.
But sadly its too slow for me. Maybe it is made for peeps with slower reaction to combat. Or for those who are not used to instant attack melee kinda combat.
You know how fast WoW/RIFT melees combat are? lol!
Reddeath2980 – It should be..
Casters = Casting Bar
Melee = Instant Melee Attacks with no casting bar unless its a Spell.
(edited by Jabronee.9465)
This is not an issue – quite a few melee skills in Guild Wars also had activation times, deal with it.
Cause most just cant be bothered cause they know its BS to have casting time for melee skills. They just roll another class or go back to their previous mmos to play melee class.
Warrior and Guardian are amongst the – if not the - most popular classes in the game, almost all of these players use melee weapons as their primary.
I’m trying to say the mechanic is a part of the gameplay. It isn’t some hitch or anything else. Timing matters, that i why it contributes to skilled play.
Also yeah, WoW takes no skill. I played it for kittening years and got disgusted at how easy things were getting starting in WOTLK and only saw it get worse in Cata.
GW2 combat is proven to be more skill based.
You voiced your opinion, that is all you did. You’re not doing anything more than trying to back it up by saying anyone else who might share it is just acting like they can’t be bothered to say anything about it.
Want to know my opinion? Get. Over. It.
The mechanic isn’t broken, you’re just clearly -way- too used to games holding your kitten hand.
Someone never played Ragnarok Online, one of the oldest MMO’s around, where several melee attacks had cast bars. Who’s looking silly now?
Okay, two things…
First of all, Jabronee, we have the “cast time” on our attack, instead of a global cooldown + weapon speed. If we remove that timer, we’d need to implement another limitation to avoid hitting 1-5 in a second and then waiting for the cooldowns to disapear. The burst damage would be way too high, that’s why there’s a limiter between each attack. Smoothness.
Second of all, Lifelike, I played Ragnarok as well and it’s not even remotely close to being “one of the oldest mmo’s around”. It’s only 2 years older than WoW for crying out loud.
For a game that is centered around mobility in combat
warriors melee skills are rooting them, you can choose to use
as much skill as you want, but when you are rooted due to
activating a melee skill, the enemy can get away, not being hit.
Which is 1 of 2 reasons why I do rifle combat in PvP. the rifle
only got 2 skills that root you, the shot that cripples and the burst.
I think they should increase the “melee” range for warriors.. I dont have a prob with my thief because he is blinding fast with his attack and very mobile.. Warriors and guardian might need a bit of love here:)
Again a ppl point out, the cast bar is the animation, you have to use some time to swing the sword.
And as another one pointed out, you can move and attack so a bit more in-combat speed would help.
Other than that u handle others opinion very bad and that is why they think you are trolling. Also you excel in both range and melee if played well imo:) just a boring class mechanism;)
