Hi everyone.

So the time has come to gain some knowledge about ascended items and I hope I could get some good pieces of advice from you. I’ll keep it as short as possible.

1. I’ve heard about two options when it comes to armor for warriors. The first one is a build relying purely on Power/Precision/Critial Damage – The downfall is that you are more vulnerable (and since i’m not the brighthest one I think I’ll pass on that). The other one, which i’m more interested in, is a mix between berserker gear and knight gear. I’d appreciate if someone could elaborate more about the second option. Any information regarding that setup, its cons and pros would be very helpfull.

2. The second thing I would like to know is if someone has a guide for creating ascended items for dummies. I’ve sherlocked a bit through the interwebs and found some informations that are of value to me but I would really appreciate guide for dummies.

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide me with!

Hello,

Ascended gear comes in two flavors: the part you buy (trinkets) and the part you craft (armor). Trinkets can be bought in fractals vendors and laurel vendors (in WvW and in cities). Both can be looted, trinkets more often than armor (playing fractals of medium to high level give good chance of looting trinkets).

You have to know that crafting an ascended armor takes time and money, so I would like to suggest you try different builds using exotic gear before going for ascended equipment, so that you can find out by yourself which one suits you most. Also, note that the arrival of a new trait line, named “ferocity”, might change the way builds work, although that would only concern min-maxers.

The choice of gear as a warrior first depends on the game content that you want to play most. In PVE, you’ll find out that after many hours of playing, the content becomes quite easy to manage as you become familiar with the mechanics of the mobs. As a result, most people have chosen to play full direct damage (i.e. full berserker, maybe with some bit of assassins pieces here and there). Consequently, you should make a berserker armor, and progressively adjust your toughness using traits and trinkets (usch as Knight or Cavalier), until you reach a level where you are capable of playing full damage, with no defense.

The content for WvW is much more competitive, and much more open. You can play almost all types of builds there, but most people would say you need some defense in order to survive. Also, apart from direct damage, you can consider playing condition damage -based builds, which, as a matter of fact, happen to be extremely efficient in certain situations (typically roaming).

You can find out about ascended gear in Dulfy’s web site:

Elegie’s post is extremely helpful. Read it top to bottom several times if you must.

My concise response is that because there is currently no use for ascended armor other than for level 50 FotM (you need 70+ agony resistance to function there), there is no reason to get anything other than full berserker. The cost required in order to make the set makes such a small difference in attributes seem pretty worthless when it comes to combat… so getting an ascended set purely for WvW isn’t that great of an idea unless you’re loaded and have no interest in using your money for anything else.

Hi again!

Thank you both for the answers. Especially to Elegie for pointing out some things i need to think a bit more about and the links which I somehow didn’t found on my own.

@Purple Miku – I’m not really a WvW player (at least not at the moment) so I’m exploring all the PvE content like Dungeon/map exploration/jumping puzzles and bosses so thanks for pointing the WvW issue out.
