So I’ve been putting off getting an ascended back piece for a long, long, long time. I was about halfway there for awhile, but sold most of my mats to get some gold for skins.

But now ascended weapons are coming out.

I don’t have 400 weapon smithing on any of my toons yet, so I’d have to sink about 20 gold into that to begin with. On top of that, I’ve got all these t6 mats I’m gonna need to buy … The bill is getting bigger and bigger.

I’ve done the math, a back piece will come out to about 106 gold. Probably a lot more for an ascended GS.

So, is it worth it more in the short term to get a back piece, or a weapon first?

Why would it ever be worth it to get a back piece over a weapon? The stat bonus from the back pieces are miniscule, I am perfectly ok with the exos you can buy from the temple vendors…the weapons on the other hand…

Who told you they had double the stats?

Ask the bigger question…why has this tier of gear being introduced?..we were told exotic is the highest, and ear grind wouldn’t happen..yet here we are, grinding for gear,…again…

Not a big deal, i actually like bigger numbers ;o

Im just wondering about infusions..I think they will have greater impact on builds in future. Im also wondering if we will see ascended runes..?

Double base stats is what I meant. At least for soldiers gear, I haven’t researched any other stat combos.

They haven’t said that for a long, long, long time. I think it was about 6 months ago they were talking about gradual release of ascended over the course of the year and that ascended would be the top tier for quite a while (implying that there would be upgrades from ascended at some point).

Except ascended backs can’t use jewels, so comparing base stats is irrelevant.

106 gold is totally not worth it. If you run fractals, just get your free ascended back piece (though it takes quite some time). If you don’t, the difference between exotic and ascended on the slot with the least stats is completely insignificant anyway.

Not really “free”. Thats hours and hours of grind time I could have spent doing other things. It would take me less time to go out and get a part time job and just buy enough gems to convert to 106 gold.

Either way, I figured I’d put off the back piece until after I have ascended weapon sets, its better in the long run.

You can get it eventually up to the full upgrade. took me 2 months to make – i casually play fractals once a day.
