Guild Wars 2

Hi all, this is my first post here, but I’ve been playing GW2 for 3 or so months. I’m loving my (currently lvl 65) warrior. I’ve mostly stuck with my Flaming Sword (From legacy) and Shield from level 1-65. But now that I have a lot of traits unlocked, I wanted to start looking up specific builds.

Well, I tried to, except there were so many different builds that I couldn’t make sense of any of it. I was looking for a DPS PVE build and saw many:
“Greatsword is the way to go”
“Not really, it got nerfed, axe + warhorn is better”
“are you kidding me, it’s axe + mace”
“Guys. Are you stupid? Axe + Axe”

Before looking up any sort of build, I had just been playing with stuff that I thought would be good, randomly assigning traits to what seemed best (like i said, I’m currently sword + shield) but I want to make something that can deal some awesome damage. I’m not looking for PVP. I never play it. All I ever do is PVE and a little bit of dungeons thrown here and there.

If anyone has any recommended builds, let me know. I’ll definitely try them out.

30/0/0/10/30, taking berserker’s power and heightened focus as the 30 traits. The 10 in tactics gives you either empower allies in a party setting, or empowered, which gives you +2% per boon on you.

GS and Axe/Mace as far as I know. I don’t play PvE at all, to me it’s a necessary evil. But Hundred Blades still gives awesome damage. GS gives great mobility and a dodging move (whirling axe) to avoid the biggest hits. Axe/Mace gives you the hardest hitting 1 skill available to us, to switch to when HB is on CD. Also, Axe 2 and Maxe 4 apply 8 stacks of vulnerability.

As for utility, grab a banner if nobody else in your party has one. Don’t know the names (never use them either), but it’s obvious which gives the best damage boost. Other then that, just pick something to stay alive, or FGJ/Signet of Might for even more damage. Signet of Rage for Elite.

At least outside of solo PvE condition damage is rather bad in PvE so you should use weapons/builds that focus on direct damage.
You have two weapon sets, and with Discipline 15 (Fast Hands) you can switch between them every 5 seconds. So, rather than pondering about “What’s the best weaponset?” you should be pondering about “What is the best combination of two weaponsets?”

best main weaponset is axe/mace. mainhand axe is strong, reliable DPS and combines well with the offhand mace for vuln stacking. offhand mace has a very strong AOE knockdown which does good damage too.

some people will suggest GS offhand for HB+whirlwind burst, but imo it’s only worth when mob is up against a wall/if you need the evade, because HB is less reliable in my experience. it you dislike GS you don’t need to use it.

for utilities FGJ, Banner of Disc (or strength if someone else has disc) and signet of fury/stunbreaker.

for traits you should run 30/0/0/10/30 as suggested above.

btw for your offhands only mace, sword and warhorn are of any use. shield is only good for some skips, and offhand axe is utter trash and should never be used.

Now i have read/ viewed so many builds and i have also taken into account the many flamings that have happened as a result of different builds. Some with good criticism and valid responses from people who are mad about theory crafting AND know what they are talking about, these people have helped with my understanding of this class, but i really don’t care too much, i play for fun..
All in all I have just picked all the kills and traits for selfish stay alive and dps the hell out of mobs and maybe some dungeons.
Some of my utilities will be support but mainly for cond removal.

You will see i like the faceroll GS but i really like the Axe/Sword combo with torment,
So? what do you think?

That build is bizarre. Desperate Power is really niche and will almost never be active, I can’t fathom why you would prefer 100 Vit and the very rare 20% damage buff to 100 power and always 15% damage buff.
