I just started playing my warrior again. I usually run WvW, and some farming pve type stuff—silverwastes and Dry top. I usually use Healing Signet, but I was wondering if a burst heal would be better—especially in WvW.

I was thinking of Mending coupled with the trait that removes conditions when a Healing skill is used (whatever it’s called; it’s in the Power line). Healing Surge may work as I run Sword MH and that doesn’t always land in WvW—may as well use the adrenalin for healing.

Also, what about Defiant stance and/or antitoxin spray? They seem ok for WvW, not so much for PVE, but I’m not sure.

Anyway, thanks in advance for any responses. I’d like to change things up a bit from Healing Signet and wonder if it’s worthwhile.

  • Mending: The effect is decent, but the healing amount is too low. Restorative Strength isn’t worth the investment, since you’ll want Dogged March and Cleansing Ire anyway.
  • Defiant Stance is awesome in a zerg, but in a small group or 1v1, you’ll be toasted for using it.
  • Antitoxin Spray: Healing amount is too low and it doesn’t remove Bleeding nor Burning.
  • Healing Surge: Requires some timing, as you’ll want to use it at full adrenaline to maximize the effect. On the other hand, using it at full adrenaline makes the 30 adrenaline regeneration of it useless.

Your choices are pretty much limited to Healing Signet and Healing Surge. Signet is the go-to for most people as it offers the best hp/s and shares a weakness with Healing Surge in being vulnerable to poison.

I’d have to agree with that, mending just isn’t potent enough and defiant stance sounds great on paper, i really like it but its far too weak for most situations, with it’s short duration it’s only really useful when being wailed on by multiple foes.

As for choosing between healing signet and surge, signet will heal for more over time unless as Olba mentioned you have poison on you, however i find it lack luster as a heal. If you are near death the only way to survive with heal sig is generally to kite for a bit while you regenerate back up as the active heal is pretty weak The same is true for surge but you can jump out, heal and jump back in quicker. It’s a lot more useful in near death situations because of the much higher heal. The adren gain also adds a level of utility and choice to surge, do you use it to build adren or waste the adren in favor of a bigger heal spike and you can also clear poison before using it to get the full benefit from the heal.

What i like most about surge over heal sig however is that its an active heal, makes combat more engaging as you have to consider when best to use it, which i think makes the heal the more fun if weaker heal over time.

Thanks, I pretty much figured that Healing sig, despite all the nerfs to it, is still the best, but I wasn’t sure. So many look good on paper, like Mending, but they don’t quite measure up.

Thanks again for the advice. I’ll stick with Healing Sig, and never press it.

As a note on Healing Signet, even if you’re poisoned 100% of the time, it still gives higher healing/second than any other Warrior healing skill without poison (aside from Defiant Stance’s theoretical infinite potential). Actually gives higher HP/Second than most non-poisoned heals in the game, for that matter.
