I’m just curious as to which weapons are best suited for WvW. I can get any other weapons as well (I have a ton of CoF Carvings) so I’m open to every suggestion!
The reason why I’m asking is because GS + Rifle is getting a bit too boring, and I actually wanna’ learn how to play properly (no cheeses like Bull Charge + Frenzy + HB or spam Kill Shot). I wanna’ keep my GS because I recently got a Destroyer skin for it and I absolutely love it! I’m just curious as to what would compliment that weapon more in WvW!
Thanks in advanced!
I’m sorry, but in PvP there really is no other use for the Greatsword than the “cheesy” way. It just isn’t that great of a weapon against intelligent enemies that can, y’know, take one or two steps back.
It’s mobility is really useful though. But let’s see… What would you suggest is a good weapon combination then?
I never bother with sPvP (ever), but I actually do find Greatsword useful in WvW because it’s an entirely different sort of combat setting in many cases.
I usually run Greatsword and either Rifle or Longbow, depending on what exactly is taking place.
Longbow is fun, it has great panic effect on zerglings but don’t get owned by wall reflection or feedback xD
Sword/warhorn is the best secondary weapon in my opinion.
It allows you to get in melee closer or get away. You also get a free cripple/immobilize/chill remover. Plus more dodges with vigor.
Jump in → change to your primary weapon → wreck havoc → Change to secondary weapon → Get away.
I main GS aswell in WvW on my Warrior.. And switching 2nd set depending on what needs to be done.. Tho now ive even stopped using ranged in keep defence, I just find it so much more fun going out and Whirlwind and then in again..
2nd set im using:
Travelling: Sword+Warhorn
Fighting: Axe + Mace . Mace OH for the sweet sweet knockdown.. and pair axe 2 with mace 4 and you got 8 stacks of invul on your target with 2 attacks..
Guess its also a matter if you have fast hands traited or not.. Personally I love that trait, reminds me so much more about Age of Conan with that specced..

How is it different? PvP is PvP regardless. Players are going to avoid your Hundred Blades unless you resort to the “cheesy” tactic. Greatswords are more of a PvE weapon because it is too much of a one-trick pony.
WvW is very large scale and allows for a more “chaotic” sort of encounter. Due to the sheer amount of conditions and control flying around, not everyone has a chance to avoid HB or can be more easily blindsided with it. I pretty much never bother with Bull’s Charge and get a very high number of kills with the weapon in skirmishes, along with my rifle. Not really much to say other than that the results speak for themselves I suppose. Might not work for everyone.

You can get higher DPS from both bladetrail and whirlwind attack if you Time them right.. I only use 100b when smashing a gate or when taking a camp guarded by npcs… 100b is the skill i disslike the most in the entire game, so i just change My gameplay so it doesnt involve it..
TL;DR: GS is not a PvE only weapon unless you cant use it the proper way…
I don’t even use it on gates; usually we should have rams anyway. It is rather funny to use on the opposite side of the gate though, downing the unsuspecting people who are right next to it. XD

Look at it as a short break.. Press 100b then grab a drink haha.. And yeah thats also quite funny to do) hehe.. Warrior GS would be the perfect weapon to me if they only changed 100b.. We all Seen it on youtube the “look at me when i go PRO!!”-ppl go bullscharge + Frenzy + 100b , but they never show how PRO they really are when the enemy evades their 100b rofl.. Most of them just stand there wondering what happened haha
What kills me is how many of them will actually sit all the way through the attack instead of cancelling, even after I’ve clearly moved or broke stun.
I messed around a bit, and at least vs the players I was against (bear in mind I don’t actually play warrior, I play thief, necro, guardian, ele and engineer at the moment to lvl 80 and lots of wvw), I found GS +sword/axe effective.
I used a sigil which cripples or chills, on weapon swap on the GS. Sword/axe sigils aren’t as important.
Open with sigil of rage (elite), then the gap closer on sword, bulls rush, axe 5, swap to GS for chill when close enough, then use stomp and 100 blades. Most people are down after that but if not do as you wish. I was using as my 3rd utility balanced stance for stability.
If then you needed range i’d swap one of the weapon sets out for a rifle when out of combat.
