Currently on my Legendary quest, and I am at a crossroads. I’ve been playing as a 1hSword/Shield Warrior for awhile now. I like it but the damage output is kind of low. I run a heal/shout build and I use the p/v/t gearset. I have almost all my charged lodestones but I could easily sell them for the majority of the lodestones needed for Frostfang. Do the Axe Builds on this game do damage on par with greatswords or do a lot more damage than a 1h Sword Warrior? Before I finish up crafting my Legendary I would rather be useful to fractal/dungeon groups since I am pretty sure I’ll only be crafting 1 Legendary on this game.

For my roaming build I use sword/shield + GS. The mobility with those two is very good and keeps me alive 90% of the time. However for duels / spvp I find Axe / Shield + GS is more potent with eviscerate as a strong burst.

If you are looking at using it as the primary weapon set, I think Axe/X is definitely higher damage with both the auto attack chain and eviscerate.

I personally went for sunrise and bolt though. Just fits my play style more.

Sword doesn’t pair with shield at all for damage. Main-hand sword pretty much needs and off-hand sword. I tested dual-sword/longbow condition set up in the mists. And I have to say it was one the better condition specs I tried, would run into issues though if anyone else in your party was stacking bleeds

Axe auto-attack is said to be better than Greatsword for sustain since sometimes you can’t afford to stay still to use Hundred Blades. It has the fastest attack melee attack speed in the game at 1/4 of a second

That being said, you can make a pretty powerful Axe/Sword set up. My traits were 20/20/0/0/30 I think. I don’t remember though, was about using Eviscerate alot. Impale>Rip did alot of damage. Axe/Mace is the most popular for damage though

Last thing is, with P/T/V armor, you’re not gonna do exceptional damage

Edit: In my opinion, options are as far as Axe or Sword goes, Axe for straight up damage, Sword for a condition set up

Outside of PVP, in a PVE Environment will a Main Hand Axe OffHand Sword Build work? In Fractals and Dungeons. I don’t mind grinding out a new gearset to try a new build. Wouldn’t mind pairing Frostfang up with my Jormag’s Breathe Sword

Pick which ever you like. I never understood these kinds of questions at all. Its your money, your game, your experience., craft which ever of the weapons you find the most fun and which one you use the most.

The damage doesnt change because you have a legendary. Go buy a axe pay the 1 silver or whatever to respec, run some fractals and see if you like running axe in fractals or whatever.

I think main hand axe and off hand sword is kinda weird combination. Making and axe is mostly pure damage whereas offhand sword is more condition based.

Well DaddyBoJangles. It worked pretty well for me, dropped my Greatsword for it but started missing the extra dodge too much.

My utilities were Healing Surge, FGJ, SIO, Berserker Stance, Signet of Rage

When adrenaline was built full I’d use Impale>Rip>Berserker Stance>Eviscerate. I don’t remember the damage I did but was at least 10K on Eviscerate and 3-6K on Rip. I only PvE so don’t know how it works in PvP.

Sadly I can’t remember the build exactly. You could increase damage further by instead of using SIO, use Banner of Discipline and put a Sigil of Generosity on the sword or axe for condition removal.

Full Berserker gear with ruby orbs. It was pretty fun and Axe/Sword just looks cool =).

I have to agree, Frost Fang with either Jormag’s Breath would be “cool”. Try it in the mists, see what you think

Sword is more of a condition weapon for warrior. If you’re running a shout build, consider a condition build? Full rabids (precision/cond. damage/toughness) with dual swords and longbow. It’s quite powerful in PvP if done right.

As a powerbuild Axe is, hands down, the better weapon.

… On the other hand, Frostfang looks like complete garbage and Bolt is one of the better looking legendaries, one of the few that’s actually good… So… Personally I’d make Bolt regardless. Simply because I’d never make Frostfang…

Why make bolt for a warrior? Hey, look at my kitten mobility set!! Until sword is actually seriously viable it just seems like someone who is putting a bodykit on their kittenty honda instead of investing in performance.

I haven’t entered Arah outside of story but I have a Zerker gear set in the bank for it since that seems what people look for in that dungeon. Everything else though no issues.

Go kudzu. The longbow is your best friend in WvW.

Kudzu does seem a lot cheaper to craft than Bolt. I already have Zap and 79 of the Charged Lodestones though. I could easily sell those Lodestones and buy almost all the Mats for Kudzu. Kudzu doesn’t even require Lodestones. Alas I have decided to continue on the path to Bolt and maybe try a 1hsword/axe build in the future see how I like that. Im ultimately going to have Sword/Warhorn somewhere in my WvW build after a lot of research. Thanks for all the comments everyone.

I swear to god though. If you go for Kudzu the RNG gods punch you in the mouth repeatedly. Everyone I know including myself has spent nearly twice the ectos/coins/skill points/karma on clovers than they should have according to the average amount required. I used 466 ectos on my 77 clovers alone. Not to mention the other 250 ectos required to complete the gift of fortune. Really, it was no cheaper than any of the lodestone legendaries due to this and I’m offended when people seem to think that it’s “one of the cheaper” legendaries.

1h sword is just not really viable as anything but mobility outside PvE. Some people use flurry for the immobilize to set up 100b but other than that and some bleed builds which are ok at best it’s just not that good.

I have my Clovers, Shards, 200 Skill Point Item, Icy Runestones, Precursor for Bolt, my Gifts of Exploration. I need all the T6 Mats(I may have like 50-100 of each) and I need the ectos(took me 120ish ectos for my 77 clovers). Only reason I say Kudzu is cheap is because I could sell my precursor and my 79 Charge Lodestones and buy the Kudzu Precursor and get close to buying all the mats required to craft the gifts for it. Didn’t mean to insult my bad. All Legendary weapons are crazy to get in my opinion. I have been working on Bolt for quite a long time.

Ok, I get what your saying. I will probably continue my 1h/Shield Build for PVE but in WvW I’ll prob use 1hS/Warhorn for mobility while a Hammer/Longbow will be my main weapons.

GS is the go-to weapon for new players who think that GS/full zerker is the way to beat everyone. Any good player in WvW (which is what I assume you mean by PvP since legendaries aren’t attainable in sPvP) will run an axe/X and longbow build for the survivability and versitality, or a sword/warhorn for the mobility. In rare cases I’ve seen bleed warriors running dual swords in WvW, but those builds are quite tedious to master.

GS + sword / shield or warhorn for solo roam (Survivability, mobility)
Hammer + sword / warhorn for group roam (CC)
GS or Axe/shield + Longbow for defense
Rifle + Sword / warhorn for lol sniping

I run havoc all day long. Building up siege in most cases isn’t viable when we’re using hit-and-run tactics to deteriorate a zerg or troll keep defenders while the real zerg is elsewhere. There are a lot of situations where not having range will screw you over.

I don’t seem to have found them. What I have found is a massive pile of badges from people I’ve personally killed, brutally and effectively, with my melee setup. To each their own.

Very nice looking! Love it! I ultimately ended up sticking through and making Bolt but I love the look of Frostfang/Jormag’s Breathe. Only 10 Lodestones left for the lodestone part of Bolt and my honor badges.
