I’ve been reading about the low Berserker presence in PvP, and the dissatisfaction of Warrior players in general with their class currently. Having played a Killshot Warrior alt pre patch (Mesmer main) I wanted to give a Berserker variant a try. So I dove into PvP with the new setup to see how it played.

Previously standard Killshot Warrior was not performing vs new elite specs (I’d seen in the Beta Weekends). I was happy to find the new Ultimate Berserker spec performs quite nicely and fleshes out some shortcomings I’d faced with standard Kshot war.

Due to synergy I had to drop sw/wh for GS which is fine. The burst is solid. The role is roaming DPS. The new sigils and runes helped, unfortunately the build sites arent up to date yet with the changes (Running Daredevil rune, intellegence/superior speed sigils). My impression from what I’ve been reading is that the old Warrior meta specs aren’t fitting in with the new Elite line. Fortunately my zerker kshot war build has only been improved (in PvP) with the introduction of Berserker. Needless to say I like it

It’s all about playstyle to me. I’ve never played a Meta warrior build. Always played full zerk rifle. So I’ve always played my war like I play my Mesmer. Still got to get used to the nuances of Berserker though

I like the concept, and I’m not criticizing your gameplay, but your video revealed the weaknesses of the Berserker elite right off the bat.

Starting at 1:15, the Revenant you were fighting dodged your Gunflame three times in a row, then your Berserker duration ended. Then, when you went Berserk again, he blinded your next Gunflame.

Then at your next fight around 2:45, the enemy Guardian blocked your Gunflame. A few seconds later, both of them dodged your Arc Divider.

Starting at 6:55, another Guardian blocked your Gunflame. Probably just from the virtue proc alone, without even seeing it coming. 7:50, another Warrior blocked your Arc Divider. A couple seconds later, he dodged your Gunflame. A couple seconds later, his Revenant friend interrupted your next Gunflame.

It looked like less than 25% of your primal bursts actually connected with the targets. You played well, but Berserker is just so easily countered, I think bringing vanilla Warrior into PvP is better every time.

Maybe WvW will prove a bit better for Berserker, I don’t know…

It’s probably fair to criticize my game play to some extent :p I was playing very fast and loose.

Back on simple Kshot I was very careful to sit at that safe distance and set up an uninterupted, unblinded killshot. Generally speaking I don’t look for 1v1’s though I know hot to get through them. So in the case of the necro specifically I wasn’t thinking about blinds. Incidentally when fighting thieves it’s always my #1 concern, with interrupt a close #2. What I would have done, had I been thinking about it, is cycling my big burst assault in conjunction with Berserker stance (assures blind and weakness can’t get a hold). The stabos on berserker is great now so I can save my stun break for an actual stun, and just live relatively safely in berserker. So yeah, learning curve.

I’ve also been running sword/wh which I’d use to leap out of a fight, swap into kshot (as an example), where’as gunflame changes things so much just by keeping your mobile. Add to that GS and the momentum of fights has me wanting to shift toward the opponent constantly. Thus I’ve been letting lose all those heavy hitter attacks, thus the carelessness leading to so many missed hits.

So yeah, it’s one part mechanics, one part gameplay/experience. On the flip side, there’s so much outgoing heavy hits, missing a few didnt seem to terrible :p

I’m not sure what this does that Dragonhunter doesn’t do better.

Whoa whoa whoa, don’t even compare the smelly old bow wielding Dragonhunter vs a rifle slinging Berserker. Sure, if I wanted to feel like a nonny I’d roll a guardian. If, however, I waned to be 10 shades of pure awesome, I’d appropriately bring a warrior.

Ok, so DH has a 8k, 4s attack on it’s #2. What about it? -_-u
