Convince Me: DPS Guard vs Warrior
Well, i’m new to this game, came from wow a month ago.
i have now 80 guardian (first) and 80 warrior, both of them fully geared.
My own opinion is that warrior are just more fun. all their abilities/trairts going around damage mostly, while guardian have much more of group abillites.. support..
its up to you, damage wise only, i guess warrior will do much higher
(even in wvw.. as Guardian i could not slow my enemy, i got kited 24/7)
i just liked the feeling of warrior more, phisical, brute, big numbers, longbow/rife much more fun then staff.. (and have larger range)
it may sound stupid, but i like to “improve” my self.. let the other around me do the buffs and support, i want evertyhing to my self! :]
while as Guardian every second trait is a group improvment, i felt its not big deal for my self, i didnt really felt that improvment (ofcurse there is, for a group, not for you only)
as warrior, every trait felt much stronger, because its mostly solo trait.. not group.
Well, i might be wrong, but that’s my overall feeling..
Which content? In PvE, warrior has:
- more DPS
- more sustain
- more buffs
Dunno about PvP/PvDoor…

Warrior have more buffs in pve than Guardian and more sustain?

I fixed that for you. Guardian has 10x the sustainability, and access to most boons in the game.
Don’t scrap it, but definitely create a Guardian and see how you like it. From co-maining Pally (healer)/Warrior(tank) from WoW I knew just what to jump into for GW 2. Suffice to say Guardian is NOT a Paladin. In fact, I hated it. Warrior fits me much better because that’s how my play style has always been. Melee with little need for magic. It’s also why I’ve never had success as caster magic classes.
If you’re just going by DPS, Warrior will outdo Guardian all day long. I personally enjoy the no-nonsense brutish attack from Warriors. Guardians have a TON of support utilities however. A lot of people expect they are similar especially using most of the same weapons, when in reality the only thing they have in common is armor type. It’s night and day playstyle-wise. Guardian just didn’t click for me with the magical attacks and what not and it was clear Warrior was for me.

but a kick buff is coming on the next patch!
Warrior is much stronger for DPS builds, I’ve tried DPS Guard and found it much more situational than warrior. For high end PvP warriors do bring one thing to the table, the ability to quickly down a high-value target in a team fight while also contributing to a cap. While Thief can also DPS because they spend so much time stealthed if they are on a capture point they aren’t being as much use as they could be. Warrior can also bring a longbow for AoE damage or a mace+shield with Missile Defection to majorly screw up ranged classes but making engies poison and blind themselves or having illusionary duelists instantly gib themselves. Sadly GS is currently the best primary weapon (although I think sword could be turned into a good primary option with some tweaks) so that’s almost a given unless you want to run shutdown with hammer/mace+shield (not overly common but if your team already has dps…).
I used to be all doom and gloom about warriors but the fact is you CAN beat most builds 1v1 if you learn to bait out stun breakers and then perfectly time your Bulls→Frenzy→100b. With a longbow using Pin Down followed by arching shot will have many people using their teleport or condi removal to avoid it and if they don’t then grz you hit them for some 5k damage. Mace is super easy to bait out stun breakers, hit them with Shield Bash and if they don’t pop it then use Skull Crack and switch to GS for a few 100b hits maybe even a full combo. What’s great about mace is that you can hit 100b more often even without frenzy. Now it’s by no means easy but in high end PvP you probably shouldn’t be doing much 1v1ing anyways.

Only thing that makes me sad is Guard’s Shelter heal that blocks while they use, not worth running Signet of Might just for that sadly.
Bow is basically the same thing only with 10 in tactics for leg specialist instead of Defense.

If you play a self-centered, egoistic sentinels/pvt-guardian, or knights with AH, well, yes. Then guardian has more sustain. But if you want to be usefull for your team, you go sth like 10/25/0/25/10 and full berserker.
Guardian sustain: 100% vigor uptime, one aegis every 40 seconds. +1 dodge every 20 seconds (sigill of energy), uberstronk f2 heal
Warrior sustain: + 2 dodges every 10 Seconds(burts and sigill of energy), GS3, Shield5 or vigor from warhorn.
They are at least on par, if you have no sustain as a warrior in PvE, you’re doing it wrong. Terribly wrong.
And buffs: Warror: + 40% damage for the team? Anyone? No? okay then…
Guardian has more utility with WoR, aoe stabi/aegis on demand and so on. Those are reasons you take a guardian.
