I’ve noticed a lot of warriors using greatswords purely for the movement abilities. This happens mostly in WvW, but I’ve also seen it in sPvP.
Okay, so what’s the problem? The players who (ab)use these abilities have the option of ejecting themselves from a fight, with almost certainty that their enemies will not be able to catch them.
This seems to go completely against the philosophy of the warrior being the brave frontline damage dealers that they were designed to be.
Unfortunately these cowardly tactics are now very widespread in WvW. At least 50% of the roaming players that I’ve encountered in the past few weeks (bronze tier NA) are greatsword warriors who pick fights and then run away when they get below ~30% health. Even thieves who try to stealth away from a fight are less frustrating and easier to catch.
I recently heard a rumor that the movement abilities of warrior greatsword and elementalist fiery greatsword were being nerfed, but those changes do not appear to have been kept for the feature patch.
Can we please do something about this cowardly play style? It’s very frustrating when more than half of the people who pick a fight with you run away as soon as they start losing, and there’s nothing you can do about it.
Edit: Since I only mentioned the greatsword part of these builds, the situation wasn’t fully clear. In addition to the greatsword, these builds use some combination of these:
Dolyak Signet (stability and stun break)
Balanced Stance (swiftness, stability, and stun break)
Berserker Stance (condition immunity)
Signet of Rage (swiftness)
Mobile Strikes (movement skills remove immobilize)
Dogged March (-33% duration of movement impeding conditions)
Superior Rune of Melandru (-25% condition duration and -25% stun duration)
Bowl of Lemongrass Poultry Soup (-40% condition duration)
(edited by EnemyCrusher.7324)
Yeah!
Make the leap thing require a target or no leap kittens!
Cripple, Chill, Immobilize, Fear, Daze, Knockdown.
Just because you fail at chasing someone who is about to die makes you an even bigger loser.
It still amazes me how a class that is decked out in heavy armor wielding a 2 handed great sword is more mobile than most of the light armor wearing classes (eles excluded here).

Not frontline damage dealers anymore, due to player QQ. Anet nerfed the greatsword damage and adrenaline for the upcoming patch, so expect to see a lot more warriors hastily retreating.
rofl. Warriors now run away, because when they actually do damage they’re too op.
(edited by Azure The Heartless.3261)
Some of them are probably PvE players who do not want to participate in WvW because they are there solely for map completion.

What has armor class got anything to do with mobility???

Absolutely nothing. If we’re going to argue unrealistic values, then thieves shouldnt be able to stealth when targeted, light armor classes should take significant heavy damage and bleeds when hit with a greatsword, and engie explosions should hurt the engie as well.
The mobility is the only thing going for the greatsword. Warriors are slow and clunky to begin with, and with they added nerfs they are far from high energy damage dealers now.

LOL! I guess CC IS dead in PvP/WvW!

Well if I was gonna run a marathon I would not want to wear the full body medal bullet proof stainless steel chest piece and the matching steel plated boots. I would think that a nice pair of running shoes and a t-shirt would be a much better alternative.
For a fantasy game this tends to stretch reality a bit to far for me, sorry if it wasn’t clear.

I guess you have never played a sword/warhorn warrior with the gs offhand?
Thes guys can get across a map faster than most classes can hope to.

A heavy armor class is.. heavy.. therefore mobility should be less. A heavy armor class has much higher toughness and vitality base stats and hit like a tank, so there should be a downside, you know, pros and cons to balance things out.
Light armor class: pro: high maneuverability, con: low toughness and HP.
Heavy armor class: pro: high toughness and hp, con: low maneuverability.
Unfortunately, this doesn’t seem to be the case with warriors. They have much higher base stats and high maneuverability. I’m not sure what the downside is, however I don’t play warrior so might be missing something: this is just an observation.

please see above response for arguing realistic value.
lol then again we all know warrior will be nerfed and still ppl QQ about warrior… srly? Sure its the easiest class in game to play but its not the best class in game specially in pvp specially with GreatSword! lol… Warrior with GreatSword i think its the worst class in pvp right now and after the patch i dont think it will be any good in pve eather LOL i think the others classes will be better in pve for dungeons and stuff
Hmmm have you ever seen a Thief? Try catching a pro Thief and tell me how it goes… Highly likely with you dead and they full life. Want to know how? Apply conditions on you, shadow step away… reset fight…. come back with full life while conditions still ticking off your life, then blast you again.
The Warrior class deserves this… unlike most, they have to step up to their target to strike them (unless LB or number 4 with GS). Other than that, their hundred blade won’t do anything a mile away from their target. They should be able to rush/dash in toward their enemy when desired.

oh. I have. I was talking about the greatsword specifically, though.
If you can’t catch them, just know that they are the one that ran from you. Take that to your heart and just move on. I do that all the time when I fight against thieves. The moment they retreat, that’s the moment I claim victory. If they keep at it, I’ll call guildies for an ambush attack and then we celebrate around his dead body.

Running away screaming isn’t an acceptable solution to losing a fight? Hmm.
Lol! Want to talk about Heavy Armor class with mobility? As illogical as it seems… I’ll counter you with female characters that wear what seems to be completely nothing being able to tank more than male characters that look like they can hold back a moving train. This is a game. Logic isn’t here, sadly.

When it affects base stats, they should carry the logic through. A heavy armor class has higher base stats, therefore there should be a con to counteract that.
Male or female does not affect base stats, neither does how much flesh the armor shows, so that doesn’t bother me.
You wont catch a thief is he has even a bit of skill.
And yeah, talking about realism and drawing a line at “how can heavy armor have a great mobility”? Really? (not about warriors per se, but really more about drawing lines and reality ;P )

what are you talking about, there aren’t any broken builds in gank wars 2, it’s completely balanced
Yeah Warriors have some pretty good movement abilities and easy access to stability, so they can be really hard to pin down. There are a certain breed of cowardly Warriors that use Greatsword / Sword Warhorn/Shield and then they set up their traits to make sure they have “mobile strikes” “dogged march” and “forceful great sword”. Those are nearly impossible to catch once they start to turn tail and run. The reason you’re getting so much backlash on the forums is because you just insulted half the board by calling their main a coward. They spent all the time farming for their legendary GS, or money buying it and all they do is run away while pretending to be BA. All you can really do is laugh at them as they run. Let them go be useless somewhere else in WvW.

Anet sure seems to think so, what with our bi-annual balance patches…
Just spent ten minutes staring at this post wondering what was wrong with it—-then it dawned on me. The heavy use of emotive language language to poke a response. Ten minutes of my life ill never have back.
Anyway, warriors who ‘abuse’, and use ‘cowardly’ tactics are using the skills and abilities that are available to them—just as every other class does in gw2. I never would have thought I would see the day when a post would make me say this, but this is a case of L2P! (and believe me when I say—I really hate that term).
Whilst we are on the topic where did you hear the ‘rumor’ about said greatsword nerfs? Please post the link—if one exists—something someone heard from a guildy from a guildy from something overheard from the bloke down the pub doesn’t quite qualify Im afraid.
I got sick of condi ganker builds when roaming with my warrior and i made a counter build. High mobility, high vitality (34k health all buffed because toughness doesnt counter condis), lots of condi removal and soft/hard cc counter.
All i do is run around and tag enemy objectives, kill their dollies, flip their camps and contest their waypoints. This gets their attention pretty fast and they start chasing me. Usually i have 3-5 enemies chasing me, sometimes for hours without catching me. The amount of enemy whispers and group invites i get is staggering. Most of them just want to qq and insult me because they get frustrated. Even though i dont kill any enemies, every frustrated whisper i get is a little win.

They were in Ready Up videos. Dulfy has a summary and links to the class particular changes. http://dulfy.net/2014/09/05/gw2-sept-feature-pack-summary/
Here’s the real deal video if you want to watch it. Apparently the changes are discussed somewhere towards the end. https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/ready-up-episode-19/

The skills were designed to give Warriors the ability to chase kiters, then people started using it for other nonsense, just make some of the abilities need a target and there you go.
Well the biggest cowards are the ones in full armor i mean that IS what armor is for protecting. Its the ones who are in light armor or no armor who tend to be the brave ones.
No other class is more runner based than Warrior, from my limited sPvP experience. If they can’t 1 trick pony you down asap, they run like girls. This is why I eat warrior face ALL DAY LONG, in WvW and sPvP. I don’t play builds than can be beaten with a single key press, nor do I refuse to dodge.
It’s the mentality of the player behind the class.
I, for one, love the GS movement abilities while roaming in open world (not WvW). They make moving from place to place that much faster. That’s a big part of why I main warrior.
you need more CC. when a warrior runs away from me, I just blink to them and immobilize or hit them with temporal curtain. They have gtfooc skills, I have gtfbic skills
Only necro is kaput….
Let them be cowards.
To live on as a warrior who retreated from a fight he started is the biggest disgrace he can gain. A bigger disgrace than to be finished…Except you use a bunny or a llama as finisher. Then its a much bigger disgrace…or you down him and just let him live and sit down somewhere near…just to disgrace him again when he stands up…
#SadisticRANGER
With as many telegraphs going on on the ground where you just accidentally hit melee by virtue of the fact that you just laid a skill on the ground, you’d leap out, disengage and re-engage as well.
Warriors are masters of stealth and evasion.
Working as designed.
That’s usually the case, if I see a warrior with a gs and sword I wont even bother fighting or chasing cuz he will just run once he thinks he’s losing
I have read some comments about heavy armor and mobility on warrior ….
let me say this …
try a tanky build on warrior for example hambow ..
and then try a burst build with greatsword/sword for mobility ..
… the hambow will be a slow durable warrior…
and you drop the durable part for agility and mobility….
so there’s nothing really unrealistic .. you’re not gonna find any mobile warrior that can also tank and kill everyone in sight forget it…
drop heavy weight(hammer, armor stats, traits) for mobility that tend to be burst builds (low health, low armor, and high dmg traits) ..
that’s called bein a versatile class …
I can chase warriors fine. Its a L2P issue. You have to time your CC’s
It’s far too easy for them to bail.Im a warr myself, and most warrs i see in wvw all carry gs..Give them 2 hits and they go back in the future while they popped berserk, stabi, and EP offc… ( all on 100% hp,pro stuff ).They need to start increasing the cd on whirl and rush, simple as that.Backbreaker on hamm has a 30 sec cd..Give rush a 30 sec cd aswell, and give whirl a 15 – 20 sec cd instead of 10.
Cripple, Chill, Immobilize, Fear, Daze, Knockdown.
This
Also, in terms of WvW, it’s best not to push your luck anyway. When someone escapes my clutches I take the time to run the other way as well. I’m not the kind of person who will run away from a fight but if my opponent runs I’m not going to chase them because odds are they will either; run until they outnumber you or keep resetting until they win = not worth the time or risk.
Tbh i dont see much people crying about warriors. They are pretty much in a bad place when it comes to pvp right now compared to other classes. If you are crying about warriors then clearly you will cry about every class you will encounter.
The Warrior should be one of the slowest classes in the came (mitigated with a few closers and CC abilities that they can use to keep people in combat with them), not one of the fastest. Heavy armor does not imply The Flash.
It will defeat the purpose of getting rid of the trinity of this game.
You guys really need to learn how to read and understand what youre reading before making a purchase.
Anet’s selling point is the abolishment of the trinity meaning all classes can play how they want to play.
Now you guys want to isolate warriors as the heavy armor wearing tanky class? Try to think once in a while guys.
I think only one person really understood why a warrior would do this, or rather, why any and all classes do this:
a) It’s a valid tactic used to reset a fight. Much in the same way that a thief will stealth or use SR, it’s to provide some space for healing or to simply retreat from a fight that you are sure you are going to die in. Do you sit there and let people kill you if you have no chance? Getting away isn’t cowardly, it’s smart.
b) I’ve used GS rush and WA many times to bait people. I have picked off entire groups of 10 or more one or two at a time by having them chase, one or two getting really close, and then I swap to either my hammer or axe with a sigil of hydromancy that effectively roots them for 2 seconds and go to town. One down. Who’s next?
c) If you are not smart enough to realize when it’s simply time to get the hell out of dodge, and you’re willing to die for no reason, that’s your problem. Every player of every type of class I’ve come across has used various ways of escaping me, and it’s usually when they’ve taken a few hits they know they can’t manage long-term. Elementalist swaps to earth for stability and then air and flashes the hell out. Necro switches to lich or plague form and says cya! Mesmer spawns clones and phantasms, swaps and blinks, veils and gets away. Engi, holy crap, ever see an engi traited for mobility make an escape? You can chase one around the map ten times over. Ranger, came across one today that used his skills brilliantly. He would tap about-face, hit lightning reflexes, then tap about face again. Sword 2 and GS 3 to get even further away. He was completely uncatchable. There were 6 of us and one of him. He used his brain and evaded death while we tried helplessly to chase him down halfway across the map. Thief? I don’t think I even need to mention thief, do I? Guardians will pop Retreat, Save Yourselves, invul, and sometimes even a book not to speed away, but to stop you from being able to kill them before they get to where they’re going (usually leading you right into the group just around the corner that you foolishly chased him alone into).
A smart player uses these various methods of escape for a lot of different reasons. Oftentimes, if you see me using Rush, I’m baiting you. Come after me, do it. Break away from your group to chase me. Then I’ll turn around and crack your skull open. Your fault. Not mine.
When I first started playing WvW, I used to think the same thing: cowards. Why do they run? The longer I played, the more I understood. It’s a very simple thing: if you want to sit there and die for no reason whatsoever, I mean really knowingly die, you haven’t learned to be smart enough not to yet.
Catch me if you dare can.
It will defeat the purpose of getting rid of the trinity of this game.
Not really. The warriors do a lot of things well. That doesn’t mean that they have to do everything well. If every class should be able to do everything equally well, why not let every class run that fast or do the same damage and CC as a warrior? Why have classes at all?
Anet’s selling point is the abolishment of the trinity meaning all classes can play how they want to play.
Really? Then why did ANet tell all the people in the Ranger CDI thread who wanted burst power builds to be viable that that’s not how they intended the class to be played? Why do I have people telling me to build condi-trap Rangers or a longbow Warrior if I want to be effective in WvW when I want to play a longbow Ranger? Because you really can’t play all classes any way you want, except maybe Warrior, which seem to do everything pretty well.
Now you guys want to isolate warriors as the heavy armor wearing tanky class? Try to think once in a while guys.
What are classes for in GW2?

As a thief (meant to be the most mobile class in the game), even if I used every thing in my ars (lol butts) enal. I still cannot catch these types of warriors. That’s if I wanted to put my thief at a severe disadvantage too.
Cripple, Chill, Immobilize, Fear, Daze, Knockdown?
I guess you haven’t heard of the warrior traits and food that renders all these abilities useless?
I say give warriors the elementalist treatment (like they did to ride the lightning). If the warrior movement skills do not hit a target: put those skills on a longer cool down. Problem solved.
(edited by Azure Prower.8701)
That is why they are making changes. Anets goal is that each class have the same burst/tank/mobile potential as other classes. They felt rangers lack burst compared to other classes so they are changing it.
Classes in gw2 are mostly preference. Each class can be mobile / tanky / bursty. Only currently anet is still balancing them so you might see others are lacking compared to others.
Seriously. Read before buying. During the release they already said this.
