Defektive's sPvP Bleed Build - Come take a look!
Cont.
Gameplay:
This build focuses on survivability, sustained high damage from a Sword (slightly lower than a Greatsword), and applying moderate damage bleeds in mass quantities.
Why bleeds?:
Many classes have the ability to evade, stealth, and run away. Bleeds turn your DPS down time during these moments into DPS up time. A stack of 10 bleeds (easily obtainable in 2-4 seconds)
will tick for 500 dps. Add that to a sustained damage of 1200-2800 dmg per hit from a main sword and you create a very powerful damage dealing combo.
Bleeds can be applied using your Mainhand attack, your #4 ability (Impale – ranged 4 bleed stacker) and your #5 ability (Riposte – Block the next melee attack and apply 4 bleeds +do damage). When these 3 skills are used in conjunction, you can easily apply 10 bleeds on a target in 2-3 seconds.
What about classes that can remove conditions?:
Classes who can remove conditions generally use these abilities early on in the fight. Save your bleed appliers (Frenzy / Impale / Riposte) for after they have popped their condition removers.
Despite up time on Bleeds, generally the Mainhand sword can do as much damage as a Greatsword user. Thus having great pressure regardless if bleeds are up.
Burst:
Burst can be achieved in two areas. With this build an ‘Impale’ will generally crit for 5k. With a quick switch to Axe/Shield, you can also obtain a free 4k (and up to 8k) crit from Eviscerate.
Kiting:
This build has two slows, one from the Mainhand sword. Another from the Axe. Because this build relies on passive health regeneration (generally 600 HP per second), kiting is important in the throws of a battle.
Slow with your Mainhand sword (remember, bleeds are ticking on the enemy while this is happening!), jump away using your Mainhand sword (#2). Swap to axe, use it’s ranged slow ability (#3). And use Shield Stance to mitigate 3 seconds of incoming damage. By this time you would have regained roughly 2500+ HP.
Using Utilities:
‘Frenzy’ – Frenzy increases your attack speed by 50% (you also take 50% more damage during this time). Use Frenzy to quickly applies bleeds with your Mainhand Swords primary ability (#1). You can get up to 17 bleeds at once in a few seconds using this.
‘Signet of Rage’ & ‘For Great Justice’ – Both of these abilities are very similar. You want to be rotating them out so you have a consistent buff of the same stats (20% crit, 150ish condition damage, 150ish+ power)
‘Dolyak Signet’ – Do not touch this. This signet gives you passive damage reduction. Only use this when going up against enemies that stun because it will give you stability (8 seconds of knock back / stun resistance).
‘Healing Signet’ – Do not use this. You want the passive regen from the Signet. Only use the signet in dire circumstances.
Using your Axe/Shield offhand abilities:
Only switch to your Axe/Shield to either…
A) Mitigate damage (Shield Stance and passive block).
B) Stun (#4) to stop enemies from killing your downed teammates or from healing themselves. And Eviscerate (F1) for the 4-6k finisher on a target.
C) Kite using the ranged slow (#3)
I HIGHLY recommend this build to Warriors who want to try something other than GS/Axe-Shield, and still want to be extremely effective in a consistent battle.
Shameless plug for my guild/outfit/team!

Thank you!

Cool man, I’ll check it out. But to be honest, I’ve tried so many builds with my warrior and still feel the class lacks in tourney PVP. The guys I run with keep trying to convince me to switch to Guardian.
Beast mode
This is one hell of a build I like it alot, the health regen idea really intrigues me.
Can you tell me if your passive health regen is affected by +Healing?
My ultimate goal is to do well in SPVP and Tournaments.
Please let me know when you get the chance.
Bertrand Russell
Health regen is indeed affected by +Healing.
I tested a number of ways to add +Healing without sacrificing Toughness / Damage (in the form of Power, Crit and Condition) and found that optimally it was best to NOT add anything additional besides what the traits provided.

Thanks Defektive, i will give it a try when i get home from work lol.
Also, how are you coping with other classes trying to kite you?? is this simply mitigated by sword 2?
Bertrand Russell
To mitigate kiting it’s important to get a slow on your opponent immediately.
Sword 3 = melee slow
Axe 3 = ranged slow
Then it’s a combination of dodging enemy slows and using Shield Stance when immobilized. When in Shield Stance remember to use the Ranged slow. Then swap back to S/S and use Sword 2 to leap to the crippled enemy. Apply your melee cripple and continue.
Reminder: With this build, shield skills recharge 20% faster. That means Shield Stance (3 seconds of block) which normally has a CD of 30 seconds. Is now 24. Because of this feel free to use it far more often.

I have been running a bleed build similar to this for quite awhile now, what do you think about rampagers necklace for the condition damage it provides along with precision and power. Gives you more crit chance only thing you are really sacrificing is crit damage and for a bleed build that’s not where most of your damage is coming from anyway.
Regardless kudos to you being one of the minority of warriors derailing from the oh too popular Greatsword frenzy build I see 90% of warriors running. I’ve only seen one other warrior besides me so far run dual sword bleed builds in tourney pvp
I also used to use the Rampagers Necklace. However I ran into a number of issues with my overall damage output to enemies that can remove conditions.
Something I’ve learned to accept is you can’t rely on Condition damage to be your primary damage source with weapon swings being your secondary source. If to many enemies are removing conditions then you’re overall damage output is substantially low.
Because of this I opted for the Berserkers amulet because of its ability to force your Mainhand weapon into your primary damage source category.
You want conditions to be that icing on the cake, that insult to injury. However, you don’t want someone to cleanse away any lead you once had.

makes sense, I run the same strength traits, went 30 in arms for the quickness below 25% health for that extra bleed application stacking, but went 20 in discipline for adren on shouts and rally on vengeance since I would usually down them even if they downed me with all my bleeds stacking and just vengeance, finish em off and continue on my way with melandru runes to opt in some tanky-ness. same weapon runes you use but for utilities I use bulls charge for great justice and on my mark for quick adren build up so I can bulls charge, burst keeping you in place for quite some time with the adren based heal just in case.
I’ll try your version sometime this week but atm I’m having a blast with a new 2h hammer build I thought of that makes me ridiculously tanky yet allows me to make up for damage lacking of the hammer with a constant 25 stack bloodlust upkeep of course with tons of CC. Oh and two banners with the regen on banners trait for tons of team utility.

I’ve been using a bleed build in PvP and WvW for a long time, and how I feel about it is that having Axe MH Sword OH and Sword MH Shield OH Switch is much better. Just putting on the bleeds and then switching to Sword and board is much more reliable. But that’s just my opinion. Try it out and see if you like it better or not.
Bump ‘For Great Justice’!
I wanna see less GS warriors out there!
This is similiar to the builds I’ve been using on my warrior. 10/20/30/0/10 Same traits, bar having block gains might, and having sword mainhand, shield offhand.
I too is similar to the build I have been running, testing, and etc with. However its not sPvP based, figured I’d do stat testing and whatnot in PvE to get a feel for the traits and such. Im working on the exotic TA c.dmg gear to maximize the bleed ticks and lengths. i just threw this together [im in class so bear with me]
Good build, I’ve been rolling with Dual Sword for a while now and I love it, not even level capped yet
Fantastic! I’m glad people are experimenting with other builds and having success with them!
As a warrior community we need to be expanding the warrior build ‘meta’. The first step to that is to show that there are other builds out there that can do as well if not better than the most gimmicky!
/agree Defektive. i tried that GS stuff, it works, but it just feels so lacking, plus with the amount of versatility the warrior profession provides, why go with cookie cutter setups.
I ran a bleed build for quite awhile before using GS/Hammer tanky build I have now.
I ran Sword/Sword with Rifle though. I found that it was easier to survive by jumping in, getting a good amount of bleed rolling and then swapping to rifle, using the knockback and kite them with snare while building up more bleeds with the Rifle 1 attack.
For wahtever reason I can’t edit, but I wanted to say that I had dabbled with the regen rune set before and I wasn’t impressed with the passive regen on it. I think I settled on the Undead rune set instead for good condition damage and extra toughness plus 5% toughness turning into condition damage which was good as I had 1900 toughness.
Defektive, I have to say thanks for providing something other than the Hundred Blades build.
I do not play a Warrior main but as an alt, when I went into sPvP n decided to try this “OP Hundred Blades build” well… Most boring, dull stupid thing I’ve ever played so thank you for bringing something different that is not as simple as literally facerolling the keys.
But anyway onto the build. Mmh, I have to say I like it but what are your thoughts about Sword/Axe? With the bleed on Crit sigils? I find it applies alot of bleeds with the Axe Whirl along with an extra Fury buff.

I’m a all out bleed specced war too.
I can out-dmg some of the GS using wars/guards in dungeons, so much so that the aggro keeps coming to me instead of them.
Thats the PVE aspect.
The only closest thing to PVP i’ve done is WvW…
Let me tell u, when u are chased by a warrior using a rifle + full bleed specced, u can kiss ur HP byebye…
I’ll be streaming some bleed focused Warrior play tonight on my twitch channel is anyone is interested!
No need to be rude about it.
Yes Sword builds DO work. Just because no one has beaten you with one doesn’t mean that they don’t work.
And yes I use them in tPvP rather successfully.
If anything, comments are like this are why everyone lumps Warriors into “nerf them please”.
I’m going to have to agree have with Defektive. I tried a dual sword build out last night and it was pretty amazing. I used my own build but I took Defektive’s advice and invested into some crit and power and just let my bleeds be a bonus. The swords sustained damage is actually pretty decent. Riposte owns any rogues trying to backstab you and the sword 4 hits for like 3k when you pull the sw
Sorry my keypad bugged out and disappeared and I hit post. I can’t edit on my phone because it has a problem with this sites security certificate.
Anyways, the sword 4 hits for like 3k when you pull it out. Its bugged though and only applies one stack of bleeds when the tooltip says 4. I ended up using a mace and shield for my other weapons and I took the reflect projectiles trait. I let so many rangers kill themselves with 3 blocks. Dual swords is my new favorite build, its definitely underrated.
Ps. I meant thieves instead of rogues in my precious post. Old habits I guess.
Vandal the #4 one is actually a bit weird.
The longer the sword stays in the target the more stacks you’ll see from it. So pulling it out prematurely is a risk at losing bleeds, but waiting to long is also risky since it doesn’t last forever.

I did not know that. It makes sense I guess. Thanks for clearing that up because I just assumed it was bugged.
While I’m sure this build works for you, Defektive, I must say I agree with Yssta. Warrior IS made for pure damage and using condition damage on it as main damage rather than absolute damage is gimicky.
You’re better off with a thief, mesmer or necro if you’re speccing into condition damage, since these classes also do it better.

I can’t speak for thiefs or mesmers, but I can as someone who has a level 80 necromancer. The only thing necros do better is transfer conditions on a target to other targets around it. As for actually stacking bleeds? They’re terrible. My warrior can easily stack bleeds up to 10-12 with auto attack alone and keep em there with the proper rune and traits. Then I pop flurry and can hit 20 no problem. If I use frenzy at any point, 25 guaranteed stacks of bleed in 2 seconds.
The best I can hope for on a necro is 7-8 stacks with auto attack only and 12-14 stacks using abilities plus rune/traits. Now if someone else is there to help stack the bleeds? Oh god, the numbers flow like a waterfall. However, thats not something I can accomplish on my own and is the exception, not the rule.
Warriors definitely do it better on a single target than necros.

I’m just going to re-quote past posts since I already touched on how this build isn’t focused around condition damage being the main damage and you just seemed to overlook it.

Can you post the trait setup in here? The link is showing that you have 0 in all traits for me

Seems like that website does’t work as intended anymore. Here’s an updated link.
I’ll update the link as well in the build. Thanks!
While I want to use a sword (actually I would love to use a sword + shield, but alas, shield cooldowns are too long even when traited to be of any real use) sword damage is crap. The bleed damage is crap, and I believe you when you say that it works for you however I have to question the quality of the teams you’re facing. You have no HP, no toughness to survive damage, warriors have the worst evasion capability of any class (you HAVE to spec warhorn for increased vigor uptime + signet energy regen to get close to the number of evade-while-still-attacking abilities of the thief, mesmer, engineer, etc).
Simply put I have never seen a warrior use a sword against a competent player and succeed without popping frenzy, but that’s more of a statement about how necessary frenzy is for every warrior build (even though ours is the only one with the increased incoming damage penalty cough thief, cough mesmer aoe frenzy cough).
I give you props though for trying. I am doing the same. Going through build after build after build after build trying to do ANYTHING but stacking my “utility” skills with abilities that give me burst for one attack every 60 seconds rather than any actual utility.
I pretty much only play my guard in tPvP anymore. It’s like a warrior only better. Everything I do actually adds utility to the group, the damage is great, the survivability is great, shouts are better, meditations are better than stances, etc.
Warriors are like diet vanilla icecream while all the other classes are gourmet flavors.

I actually use my new Axe/Mace build in tPvP more than my bleed build. But the bleed build is exceptionally good if used properly. I wouldn’t count it out just yet. Most of the MH Sword auto attacks crit around 2-2.2k, add in bleeds and a high crit chance + eviscerate burst. It can be the water type to most rock types.
Hey nice build. I’ve tried working with a sword bleed spec, but could never get it to work.
What do you think of switching the 5% damage signet in your sword with a 10% cripple duration? Seems to fit this build.
Btw tried it out today. The damage is simply amazing. I’m roaming with a thief friend of mine and we’re demolishing everything we face I do miss ignore pain though
(edited by Chipster.6713)
To each their own. I don’t take the cripple duration because it will only increase the cripple length from say 9 seconds to 9.8 seconds etc.
.8 seconds doesn’t (at least in my book) outdo the benefits of 5% more static damage across the board.
But if you like longer cripples then by all means!
bad build is bad
Considering you said this in another thread:
“signets are good, stop crying already. A good warrior can make it work with signets ,a bad one will suck even with balanced stance.” -incisorr.9502
I’ll take your word with a grain of salt.
Last post in this thread was 21 days – is anyone using this or similar type build now? If so, how’s the viability?
While I’m not interested in the bleed build itself, I am curious as to how much the 6th Dolyak rune heals per second. (I did just kind of skim through so I may have missed it). Because right now I’m running 5 Dolyak runes and a Svanir rune for high toughness/vitality and if it gives a good bit every second I’d like to add it on to my Adrenaline healing per second, Banner regen, and Healing Signet healing per second
@Grok:
6th heals for a peasly amount of HP. Since this build I’ve done much further tinkering with Warrior traits / builds and found the heal to not be worth the sacrifice of stats (it’s somewhere around 75 hp a second or so, at no +healing).
If you’re running high +healing / toughness / vitality though, it would work pretty well.
@Mouse:
The viability is good when you’re fighting teams that don’t have alot of condition removal, build also excels at killing bunkers. The build works very well with a Necro counterpart to help spread your bleeds around. If I was to review and edit this build. I would now swap out Dolyak Signet for Stamina Signet. Swap For Great Justice for Balanced Stance (need that stability / stun break). And go 5/6 Dolyak 1/6 Soldier.
I do love this build. It’s definitely versatile and fun, but only problem in your build. For your build calculator, you set up XI ’ Duel Wielding’ onto the build, which isn’t accessible because we’ve only got 20 points in Strength and it requires 30.. so, possible subsitution?
The thread is over a year old, don’t even try to make any sense of it. You are better off finding a more recent build.

As the previous poster mentioned, this thread is over a year old. A LOT has changed since then balance wise. This is extremely outdated (for example, I don’t know how it was back when Defektive wrote this, but these days there’s no reason to ever use runes of the Dolyak. They regen they give you is a whooping 30 hp per second. Not even kidding. 30 hp/s… That’s nothing.
#TBT? doesnt even work anymore because sword DPS on the auto attack chain got blown to pieces. A sad piece of history gone forever
Op the build looks good on paper but if you want to get peoples attention maybe get some video footage of the build in action.
