cant be here forever!
How about comparing to Earthshaker?
Because you can’t. You don’t compare skills in a vacuum. Might as well compare Signet of Rage to Cry of Frustration…

going to take that as a troll comment because as I said before having an f1 skill fueled by adrenaline that is SUPPOSED to be strong shouldnt kitten us over in every other category. want a comparison? cry of frustration shatters while signet of rage self buffs. DID IT GG SON!
You still haven’t compared 1, 3, and 4.

You’re still comparing one skill to another from two different professions.
You don’t ignore the profession’s mechanics and traits nor the weapon’s own other skills to make a point.
Again, might as well compare Impale to Tornado.
Guardian Hammer 1 gives perma protection/can heal you for up to 1k.

Hammer on guardian is an impressive weapon (I used it on my guardian and love it).
Though I don’t think comparing weapons between 2 classes has much point.
Instead your post should focus on where you see flaws in the warrior and how they use the hammer, and then post suggestions for improvement.
You’ll see people have already done this and it has come across as more constructive.
Ring of Warding (guardian)
¾ CT 40 CDCreate a ring around you that foes cannot cross. Trapped enemies cannot exit the ring while it is active.
Duration: 5 s
Range: 180Backbreaker
1CT 30CDKnock down your foe.
Damage: 554
Knockdown: 2 s
Range: 130
Ring of Warding doesn’t even do damage. We should /bug it and make sure the devs add 554 damage when a target touches the ring.
we need a complete redesign sorry to say. i dont feel like a warrior thats saying somthing,
my mains are guardian and warrior, jumped on a mesmer in pvp so i could check them out so op, i killed loads and i was a noob at mesmer. so i jumped on a thief lol shadow return lol , all top classes are great and well designed good job with them but when it comes down to warrior well its just plain crap, i av complained on this forum from day one about warrior, still devs think its ok, you know why they dont fix warrior so we buy gear to try and come up on par with the other class but we fail.
who runs guardian and feels that your weapon skills and utiliys are smooth and faster i do?.
You forgot to compare skills 1,3, and 4.
And the entire class, and class mechanics, and traits… etc.
Comparing individual skills across classes is generally regarded as a “not very bright” move for a reason.
mesmer traits prec and crit damage in one lol come on please.

I know, I wasn’t knocking on you, I was knocking on the OP. Merely using your post as a segway.
Seriously, you could just as well compare
(warrior) hundred blades – (guardian) whirling wrath – (ranger) maul – (mesmer) mirror blade
Or while you’re at it
(thief) cloak and dagger – (ranger) crippling talon
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
How you can say that weakness is useless….. ?
Endurance regeneration decreased by 50%; 50% of Non Critical hits are glancing blows (50% damage); stacks duration.
Warrior, especially hammer needs fixing, but not this skill you just mentioned, its fine as it is.Rather make skill 4 on hammer a Non- self root,or make it swing faster.
How you can say that weakness is useless….. ?
In PvE, it’s fine. In PvP, it’s of marginal benefit because anyone going for damage is going to have a high crit chance and high crit damage or is a condition build. That means the average damage reduction of weakness drops to under 10% from 20-25% in PvE.

While im completely aware Im comparing two different professions I chose those skills for good reason. Perhaps I can make you see things in a different light. The warrior #2 IMO is damage and the guardian #2 is once again IMO damage based. both are used for the same purpose of dealing an AOE damage affect to enemies right? Ring of warding is seen by many as the best CC ability the game has to offer so backbreaker, a CC ability with the same slot (#5 which is supposed to be the strongest ability with the reasoning that it has the longest CD most of the time) why would you possibly need a skill that never hits and has the main purpose of the knockdown CC when the guardian is obviously superior in every way? The guardian is supposed to be a support so why are they getting boons, damage and better cc than us? It just doesnt add up right? In a situation where two “similar” (i say this because they are both melee class and heavy, based around leeroy jenkensing into everything) combine that with a similar weapon (hammer war vs. hammer guard) and you have a comparison that is not as far off as you thought at first. It might just be me but I dont want to come off as ignorant of what Im talking about.
sorry for wall of text btw
to add. the trolls saying just compare X utils to warrior attacks and kitten… please stop because you are obviously not on the same page as everyone who is trying to be constructive

I agree attack speed on the hammer is an issue both classes suffer from, but you never mentioned it in your original post. You just compared cooldowns, damage, and skill functionality.
The warrior hammer 1 does better damage than guard hammer 1 (assuming your target doesn’t stand in the symbol which they normally don’t), warrior hammer 3 and guard hammer 3 are both pretty solid, and I’m not a fan of either hammer 4 but I’ve seen them used effectively; especially the warrior’s hammer 4. Having said all that, since the goal seems to be to balance the weapons against each other, should we also be advocating a damage buff to the guard hammer 1 and 4? I think not.
Now if your original post had said warrior hammer is so slow its effectiveness suffers, I would have agreed.

Okay then, constructive…

Symbol applies 1sec of protection for a 2sec duration and creates a light combo field.
Full chain is slower than cast times, around 3.7sec.
-Fierce Blow/Mighty Blow comparison made above-
Hammer Shock (Warrior)
dmg: 259/rng: 600/cast: 0.5/cd: 12
Cripples for 7sec and has a wide range.
Zealot’s Embrace (Guardian)
dmg: 296/rng: 1200/cast: 1/cd: 15

Earthshaker (Warrior)
dmg: 244/rng: 600/cast: 0.75/cd: 10
stuns for 1 to 2sec in a 240 radius, is a blast finisher.
Applicable traits:
Writ of Exaltation – Symbols are larger.
Writ of Persistence – Symbols last 50% longer. (1sec longer for Symbol of Protection)
Writ of the Merciful – Symbols heal. (107 per pulse, 2 pulses for Symbol of Protection)
Symbolic Exposure – Symbols apply vulnerability.
Symbolic Power – 10% increased damage for symbols.
Two-Handed Mastery – Hammer skills recharge 20% faster
Glacial Heart – Criticals with hammer chill 50% of the time for 4sec (45sec cooldown)
Merciless Hammer – 25% increased damage to Hammer skills vs disabled foes. Hammer skills recharge 20% faster.
Unsuspecting Foe – 50% increased critical chance vs stunned foes.
Now you can compare all that.

Man, you really don’t get it do you?
You can’t compare weapon skills. You can’t even compare weapons. They’re completely different classes. With different skills, and traits, and class mechanics…
OMG, why doesn’t the ranger’s shortbow #1 bounce from target to target like the Thief’s!? Or why is the Necro’s Staff #2 a “one time pop” thing instead of a continuous DoT like Ele’s fire attuned staff!?
You can’t compare. They’re not the same kittening class!
Yes, the Warrior’s hammer has issues – it’s a low DPS, low mobility, “high risk/low reward” weapon that relies almost entirely on one mechanic that’s relatively easy to hard counter – stun locking.
Yes, the Warrior in general has issues – Early in the game’s “released life” (possibly even during the betas) they were neutered out of a LOT of their burst damage and they haven’t been adequately compensated in the survivability aspect.
No, this has nothing to do with specific weapon skills relative to similar weapons in a completely different kittening class. They are different kittening classes. You can’t look at individual skills, or even entire weapons, in a vacuum.

so you are saying that flat upgrades in every way shape of form are inadmissible? tell me again. If you can look at two of the exact same “functioning abilities” and flatly say well that one is obviously 100% better because it has X more damage, X more range and X more effects then there is something wrong. If you people want change and destroy every comparison post out of ignorance then you will not get your changes. If I can say Im rerolling on guard because the hammer on the guardian is a flat upgrade in every way then I prove my point with every person that follows in my footsteps or has switched before I have.

In the guardian traitside, there is also you deal 10% more damage for attacking an enemy with a condition which is synergized with just about kittening everything and the Symbolic Exposure trait

Well there’s also a 12% damage bonus for full adrenaline trait, 5% bonus damage vs weakened foes which Hammer is one of the few weapons for Warrior that applies weakness, 10% damage to bleeding foes which can be applied via critical hits and a few other traits that’d mostly be exclusive between builds that slather bonus damage over all but we’re keeping the comparison simple for you unless you want to try counting all the extras on both sides.
PS: What trait is there for Guardian that gives you 10% damage bonus for attacking a foe with a condition? I only see a 10% bonus for attacking burning foes in particular…
Ah, nvm, I found it. The wiki page doesn’t have all the traits listed for specific condition effects so had to dig some more.

3% seems to be the warriors favorite number!
and btw a warrior never wins in a damage contest because every other class can mitigate or avoid that damage 100% better than the warrior can. The guardian has some of the most powerful auto attacks in the game to boot so its not just thieves that will out DPS a warrior unless you are dumb enough to stand in a 100% crit 100B as a glass cannon. (without 100B almost every class can out DPS warrior)

Axe does pretty good damage.
Just to put this in perspective. Pay attention more to the traits. I could have put different runes in to give more base bonus damage but I didn’t.
For a disabled target, full adrenaline, weakened, and bleeding; I can get 47% bonus damage and +50% crit. That seems pretty crazy to me.

25 Honor - Elusive Power = 10% bonus dmg when endurance isn’t full.
25 Virtues - Power of Virtuous = 1% per boon
25 Radiance - Radiant Power = 10% with condition
10 Virtues - Unscathed Contender = 20% with Aegis up
10 Zeal - Fiery Wrath = 10% when burning
I tried to pick the best approach to get highest and I went 10/25/0/25/10 and got a max of 50% bonus damage. With aegis down, it’s only 30% if they are burning and endurance isn’t full. Seems a little more difficult to receive the maximum effect compared to a warrior.
I don’t know any guardians that run that build.

Knockdowns are not stuns. Knockbacks are not stuns, and that is 2 of the 6 skills on war hammer. So that cool precision trait doesn’t do us much at all.

Unfortunate. If they changed the “stun” to “disable” in Unsuspecting foe then it might be more widely used.
