Why is this even still in the game?
At the insultingly low bonus of 0.1% per point invested, with a massive thirty point investment in Discipline you get a piddling 3% extra burst damage.
I know it was nerfed from Beta where it was 1% per point invested, which was deemed too much, but really, to make it 1/10th as powerful as it initially was?

Granted, the +1% Critical Damage per point invested is quite nice in Discipline, but at the same time, if you’re investing that much in Discipline, you’re not investing a huge amount in Arms. Or if you are, it’s going to be very glassy.

Maybe Crit Damage should be moved out of Discipline; but looking at it, I don’t know where it should go and what should replace it. The obvious choice would be to lump it in with Precision in Arms, but then Condition Damage has to go somewhere, and Discipline has little to no synergy with Condition Damage.
But I think if Burst Damage in Discipline were to be buffed (and it really needs to be), Crit Damage definitely needs to be on a separate traitline. Suggestions?

IMO crit damage would be better on the Arms tree, because condition builds aren’t viable anyway. But that’s not really solving the problem, I know.

Therewas a suggestion a while back on the forums here, that the 0.1% burst damage thing be changed in boon hate. That way, putting 10 into Disc would give you 1% extra damage per boon on your enemy. Awesome suggestion.

The way it is now, and has been for so long, it’s as if Anet is just ignoring it. Nobody can deny that this stat boost is completely underpowered and not worth it investing in. Look at ANY other class.

Yeah, let’s make GS even stronger and 1h Sword weaker, shall we?

“Awesome”? I wouldn’t say so. Two reasons:

  1. It would make Destruction of the Empowered way overpowered at 6% extra damage per boon
  2. It would allow burst-heavy builds to essentially get both Destruction of the Empowered and Burst Mastery. That’s two Grandmaster traits.

The end result? Either they remove Destruction of the Empowered or they nerf all burst base damage. The former would be unlikely, since they just put it in. The latter would contradict the change itself.

The .1% burst damage was just a quick “bandaid fix” that never got a proper solution, and has sticked till today without being addressed almost 9 months now, which is sad. It needs to be reworked entirely.

And the crit damage being in Discipline is a bad idea. All it does is encourage glass-cannons and discourage building any other way. Crit damage loses its worth very fast if you’re not stacking up precision.

And then you have 2 stats from Discipline that become worthless.
