I just started a warrior and really like the axes but I don’t really see much posted about them. Is this just not something that is good at higher levels?

Double Axes are fine for leveling, but Axe/Mace outshines them in dungeons, and there are usually better options in PvP/WvW.

The last two axe skills aren’t exactly useless, but they’re quite redundant.

Skill #4 grants a brief bit of Fury, which warriors already have in abundance and for much longer from most (all?) other skills which grant it.*

Skill #5 has low damage but will land a lot of rapid hits on several targets, which does give it some functionality in that it can build adrenaline very fast, proc (extremely) low-cooldown sigils, and tag things in PvE. Unfortunately it’s only marginally better at those than the auto-attack, which deals more damage.

*That said, it does have the potential to be comparable to other skills if you hit three enemies with both of the skill’s attacks.

Interesting. Thanks for the input. I will have to give the axe mace a try. The 5 skill seemed to be really strong, but I am still in starter areas lol so you never know for sure :P

Bear in mind that as a channelled skill, the damage readout it gives you is the sum of all the hits it’s dealt. It looks impressive at first (and the skill is kind of fun to watch, if nothing else) but those things dying quickly in low level zones are doing that because they just generally die quickly.

It depends on the build you’re going for. I enjoy 2x axes with my tank juggernaut build, which relies on axe 5 for speedy adrenaline gain as well as additional AoE damage (which also fuels Healing Surge and Adrenal Health), and I use axe 4 before using Eviscerate since my build lacks critical chance. Axe/Mace is a good combo for providing vulnerability though, as well as knockdown, leading to general better group support and extra dps.

Doubles axes are fun, I leveled with them back in the day. But if you’re looking to maximize your effectiveness there are better choices.

Long story short however is that you should play what you like, you can make any combination work, it just might not be the best.

Dont worry about running axe/mace until youre running dungeons. While just running events and around the world grab a warhorn instead

So what goes well with the axe mace? I have been trying it out and like it. I was thinking maybe having a ranged – so maybe the longbow, or the hammer is fun too. I really did not like the greatsword and I know that is a big dps weapon for warrior so I hope I am not really hurting myself not using it.

melee meta is greatsword for the burst but you can bring a longbow to stack groupwide might before pulls especially useful with multiple theives
