Guild Wars 2

Alright, so my buddy decided to go warrior. I am wondering what sort of duo partner options go well with the different warrior builds. We would like to do pve content, but we will probably end up focusing more around pve, 5 man groups as well as 2v2. I also play a lot by myself. I’m torn on what to play. Thief and engi seem cool because I love Medium armors. I don’t want to play thief, and engi seems a little wonky of a playstyle for me with all of the kit switching. I also have guard in mind a well as elementalist.

tldr: what class synergizes well with a warrior in all aspects of the game: pve, 2v2 pvp, group pvp, etc.

for pve a phalanx war + a good guardian can carry any PUG group through any of the game content if they know what they are doing, mesmer can also do that to a lesser extent.

pvp is a totally different can of worms and there will never be a true answer, i’d say play whatever you want to learn to play in pvp

just don’t choose necro as your main and you’ll be fine

heard guardian is good, but apparently it gets slow and boring. Apparently they dont have much dmg, which im not worried about, but i want something fun that if I need to, I can play on my own. Also looking to level quickly, but that’s pretty much EotM with any class.

For PvP depends on the warrior build. Shoutbow and Hambow pair better with higher damage builds like thief and power necro, as you either offer sustain to your allies, or stunlock the enemy leaving them open to being burst down. However if you run a zerker GS warrior you want another bunker like another hambow or bunker guard as you will want someone bunking the point/taking hits as you use your burst and mobility to go from point to point destroying things.

guard has a higher dps potential than a warrior and definitely much higher than a phalanx warrior.

I pretty sure he’s been looking at shoutbow and hambow builds as of late, but I’m not sure if he’s set on focusing with that. He’s prob gonna switch around with builds just like I probably will, so which class would offer such versatility synergizing with warrior switches?

Honestly, they all do, just the synergy is different with each combination. Stacking plate like Warrior + Guardian can never go wrong in any game mode. Elementalist is also a very strong pick seeing as versatility is their selling point, this includes Engi too.

Pick the class that fits like a glove for you playstyle wise, you’ll have your best duo there. You should do this by taking them all for a spin in sPvP!

Just do 2 warriors they’re looking pretty good with the revealed changes atm.

For Medium Armor:
WvW:
id say either engineer or thief would rock your boat, if roaming is what you are interested in.
Both can stealth the party, engineer have way more CC, thief have way more mobility and burst but are squishy.
If warrior is using a hammer and engineer a rifle you are up for a show of perma stunned, knocked down enemies etc.

PvP:
Engineer outshines thief in 2v2 & 1vX scenarios due to naturally more durability and cc.
Thief is however a much faster roamer and can +1 fights insanely fast.

PvE:
Thief brings stealth so you can skip parts, blinds and great single target dmg with daggers, along with good cleave with sword + pistol damage with pistol whip.

Engineer will with tiresome buttonmashing brings alot of vulnerability, and decent-good dmg. Can also stealth but not as smoothly as a thief.

Summary of medium professions (in the summary i include ranger for some reason):

Thief: fast paced, incredibly good mobility, intense. Brings stealth and alot of single target dmg allthough fragile.

Engineer: Can do EVERYTHING to a certain degree, however you will break your fingers with kitswaps and granade spam. Probably most CC in game. Durable.

Ranger: less damage than thief, not as intense, easier to learn to do relatively well with. Longest range in game, can build to be extremely durable, avrage CC. Doesnt bring so much to a team compared to thief blinds, stealth skips and damage etc, bad AoE.
Dont get me wrong though, Power ranger deal great single target damage at max range & Greatsword Maul hits like a truck. Condition builds are also very tanky with a great amount of bleeds.

I’d roll a Guardian or an Ele, as those classes are “meta” in all game modes (just like Warrior is).

given, all this is probably going to change a lot as soon as the expansion rolls around
