Q:
Favourite weapon combo
Axe – Warhorn.
Axe is just plain damage in mob’s face. Warhorn because it’s just so much fun. Well traited it removes condition, grant speed, grant boons etc…
Got a dungeon axe (PVT), warhorn (cleric) and one of each as a berserk version too for soloing.
I’m so sad seeing so many junkies with GS spamming HB like no tommorow. There is way more than that !
It used to be Axe and Shield but now I’ve been playing with Axe and Mace and it’s insane.

I really enjoyed Axe/Warhorn for quite some time. The agility you would get from the Warhorn skills really complimented the quick, fast-paced attacks of the Axe.
As of last week I’ve split up the party and went Axe/Shield for my first set & Mace/Warhorn as my secondary. So far I’m enjoying them and it feels like I have a bit more survivability.
- I leveled with dual Swords, as a bleed/condition damage warrior
- I then switched to a Boon Duration / DPS build using dual Axe with Longbow
- I have recently been running around with a Greatsword and Axe/Shield
- I also have tank / Hammer build
I can’t pick a favorite, I don’t think, because it’s largely situational. That said, I tend to always go back to Main-hand axe because of the attack speed and damage all the while being mobile is hard to turn down. The triple chop animation is a also one of my favorite animations; such rage!
I have a rather large cache of exotic weapons; counting in my head it’s up to about 15 exotic weapons. Most of the weapons are Berserker’s stats, with some Knight’s thrown in, and two Soldier’s stats thrown in (from AC vendor). I have at least one of every weapon the Warrior can utilize. So, right now, I think I can equip every weapon combination possible for the warrior. My only non-exotic weapon would be a Warhorn.
Greatsword + mace / shield
The CC I can pump out is silly (and so is the damage too, HB will hit more consistently). As much as I like the axe, which is imo more fun than the gs as a weapon, it lacks the mobility needed for escapes and chasing.
I still look fondly back on my leveling setup: Sword/Warhorn and rifle bleed build: great map traversal, great melee AoE, great single target kiting. When you’re going catch what catch can for gear, there are no useless stats for that setup (although of course some are better than others).
Now, however… I’m still deciding.
I am using Greatsword as my main weapon set and sword and shield as my secondary set, since the first moment I was able to and do not plan to change that. Ever.
I love swords, especially (realistic) greatswords and am glad that these two weapons
are pretty much the way I want them to be in Guild Wars 2.
I like playing with a good balance between damage, survivability and mobility
and these two weapons enable me to do just.
Also I am not a big fan of dual wielding, I like to have a shield in my off-hand,
which also has a nice skill set.
This combo works great for me.
- axe/mace for the vulnerability stacking and high damage against 1 tough opponent (veterans…)
- classic sword and board (or axe/shield) for cc/utility/survival
- sword/axe- a weird combo for some point-blank aoe and mobility.
Plus I like hammers and heard the axe/warhorn combo is good. Haven’t tested out yet.
I don’t touch the GS with a 2m pole and look at all the 5signet GS warrior dummies with badly-contained contempt.
I’m running Axe/Warhorn and enjoy it for the most part. I’m just always feeling that I’m not doing as much damage as I could be with GS and there’s nothing crazy like the GS traits for Axe and the Warhorn trait conflicts with the shout traits, so you lose out on that. I also feel like the Warhorn condition removal is quite weak as it usually removes one worthless condition which gets immediately reapplied.
GS + Rifle
Greatsword for mobility/escape.
Rifle for runners and for thieves. (Volley and Kill Shot follow them in stealth)
mace/axe/hammer
riffle/axe/sword
axe/sword/gs
gs/hammer
mace/shield/riffle
:3 mace/warhorn is fun too
Always Loyal
Sword/Warhorn
nothing/Shield
This way, I simply switch between Warhorn and Shield while retaining the same Sword in both weapon sets.
Do you even lift, bro?
sword and shield
longbow
with the high mobility of the sword i can leap into enemy zergs, inflict massive amounts of bleeding damage, shield stance out and switch to longbow to keep up the aoe pressure when i’m waiting on cooldowns to heal.
the longbow also compliments the sword and shield nicely with the 3 second immobilize. you can hit them at range, land bolas on them, leap onto them and hamstring them, then flurry for even more immobilize. being immobilized for this long usually means death for any commanders i can find.
axe/mace – high damage from the axe and 18 stacks of vulnerability in 2 seconds. Also <3 #5 with mace offhand
GS/longbow in PvE, because it’s always nice to start your pull with burning+AoE damage, those two weapons complement each other really well.
GS/sword+shield in tpvp, nice balance of damage&mobility with a dash of CC and mitigation. Leg specialist makes this weaponcombo wonderful.
My favorite weapon combination has been:
The hammer for its control properties. I like the AOE pounding, knock backs and downs, the vulnerability adding swipe, and the leap. Over time though at 80, I am finding the attack animations too slow and the damage lacking. The CC doesn’t seem so valuable anymore and the hammer is becoming my second weapon mainly useful for clearing common mobs while tapping resource nodes. I am starting to wonder if a great sword would do better because everything feels like a DPS race right now.
The rifle does crazy single target damage and is becoming my main weapon for any boss fight because of this. I can easily stay alive against the tough bosses at the temples for example by kiting them at range and dodging when I inevitably pull aggro and they chase me around the field of play. But there are times I really miss an AOE attack out of it.
I am bothered by the way its working out badly enough that I am tempted to change to GS and longbow. I been upset about it today.
Frankly ,when it comes to an underwater weapon I don’t like the warrior at all. I miss a good AOE and every ability lacks oomph for me. Its bothered me bad enough in a certain fractal and some underwater events that I have considered changing classes for a main to something more balanced with single target and AOE.
GS + Hammer.
Equip one of them with Sigil of Hydromancy.
Get Leg Specialist and Opportunist traits.
Immobilize and gain fury almost all the time.
And wreak havoc with your melee AoE while dodging like a silly dog!

I like Rifle / Sword & Mace. I get to jump around a bit with the sword and knock opponents down with the offhand mace. If the target won’t sit still I just use rifle to bring them down.
It’s [NERF] or nothing!
I’m using Greatsword / Axe & Mace at the moment, with a Longbow and Rifle in my bag for the situation. PvE/Dungeon.
GS is prob the most dmg and I always have one on me. But I love the animation of Axe /Shield…or dual axes. And always have those on hand too just to change up game play from time to time.
I usually run with GreatHammer / Rifle though.
