Greetings everyone.

As of late, I’ve been running with Power/Toughness/Vitality on my armor (The armor set from Honor of the Waves). I’m pretty tanky, and I use a mostly defensive hammer build with this armor. I find my in-mid-battle survivability kinda sucks (which I attribute to a class issue), so i’m beginning to wonder if the extra Vit i’m carrying is even worth it.

Now this is basically a case of “Damage versus Survivability”, but I’m finding more and more that Warriors appear to NEED tons of damage to…survive. Our class seems to rely on “kill or be killed.”

On that notion, I’m looking for a more offensive hammer build. and possibly even a greatsword build. But this isn’t about the build, per say. It’s about the armor stats.

I’m unsure of what the vit:health ratio is. However, since I lack precision (i use berserker ring/ammy/ect, so I get SOME precision and crit damage from those), my killing power is somewhat limited.

So, in everyone’s experience…

P/T/V, or Knight?

I’m trading vit for precision; I will gain a ton of crit chance, and lose health. I will also gain toughness as the toughness stat is higher on Knight as opposed to the P/T/V set.

Then there’s berserker. I KIND of want to try berserker, but I can’t help but feel like a scrub (sorry, but really) using it. Running around with 18k health basically waiting to get 2shot by someone with a brain..I really just…yeah. It’s probably more P/T/V vs Knight.

I think it would come down to how you have your traits spread. I run PTV armor as well If I were to run Knights it would probably be more if I were to be speccing into Strength to fill that Power gap and if I was trying to spec into more of a critty build, and vise versa with Soldiers I probably wouldn’t specc into Strength with it. I’m with you on Zerker – I would run this set only with an organized team of players I can trust to have my back in wvw.

Since you are running a defensive hammer build (I assume you are specced into Defense for that bad kitten hammer trait) I’d say that Soldiers probably compliments your build nicely.

I have run both sets to great success. It really depends on how well you dodge and what your traits/food/oil choices are. With P/T/V you can do a ton of damage. Just make sure that your trinkets make up for where you are lacking. My trinkets give me a fair amount of crit damage and precision and my weapons do as well. I sit at rougly 26.5k health and 3.1k armor while doing great damage. Just look at what you need to optimize. You can build tanky dps easier on a warrior than any other class. Take advantage of the fact you have the highest base health and highest base armor in the game. Even with full knight’s gear you get a LOT of toughness (and I mean a LOT). Add in Valk trinkets as needed for the vitality or go full into tactics for shout heals and the vitality/boon duration there. The warrior has so many viable options for specs in the tanky dps field, just choose what best suits your playstyle.

I use Knights for a GS build but it really does depend on your playstyle and your weapon choices. 100b with a low crit rate means you’re probably going to be eaten by cons before you do any significant damage to another class, providing you can set up the 100b in the first place. A bruiser with Axe/Mace would probably benefit from the PTV items and sacrifice the precision for longevity and ability to stay on their target with cripples and stuns. With that said, i’ve seen some crazy damage and cc come out of a hammer/gs glass zerker warrior if you wanted to go down that route.

I’ve been running PTV for a while now, and i swapped over from Valkryie then Knights. my dmg is definitely lower in terms of burst. but survivability i must say has increased heaps. you are right though in mid battle, there are times I just drop. but its more due to the massive dmg i’m receiving.
We are frontliners, so we do expect to die quite a bit. but i can usually take a few with me. i’m using a 20,0,20,30,0 build with shouts. so my surv is quite good i must say. and my guild runs warriors in groups. so 5-8 of us warriors in this exact build and gear, makes us an amazing frontline crew. we’re all hammer warriors, my stats are pretty decent, 3k attack, 3k armor and 30k hp. the Toughness makes your Vitality useful, and vice versa. but i guess it amounts to your play style, and this one suits me pretty well.
