Fighting Sword Thieves...
I dunno about GS/Bow. I personally play a condi warrior and the conditions just eat through them. It’s hard to get real attacks to hit them for much, but the bleeds on sword’s autoattack combined with longbow’s fire field does a lot to make thieves completely unable to go up against you for long without having to quickly disengage.
About the teleporting around and potentially escaping, it’s hard to counter really. Good thieves knows when to disengage and all you can do is continuously keep them away until they make 1 mistake and you can get a full combo on them. It’s all about playing a patient mind game instead of flinging out abilities.
I’d like to hear anyone else who has any tips and advices.
Either load them with conditions, or outplay and spike them with that sweet burst damage. Just takes time and practice, like learning to fight against a mesmer. Gotta have a lot of patience.
It’s always a good idea to roll a class that gives you trouble, so you can see its weaknesses from the inside. A Sword thief usually relies on in-combat mobility and a lot of escapes. But their defenses are poor, so it only takes one mistake for them to lose.
Ya they are annoying its the perma dodge build, or whatever build. Their damage isn’t that good keep in mind but locking them down is hard.
I used Skullcracker build I had no issue locking them down but before I could kill them they always teleport away. But Was able to keep enough pressure on them that they were always playing catch up until i eventually landed my last skullcrack combo on him and he went down took like 5 mins.
Ive fought 3 different thiefs with this build so far 100% success rate in defeating them so far but I am 100% annoyed.

I see, guess need more practicing, thanks guys, i dont want to come back to mesmer again :P
You can try and zone them with LB burst, and play evasive with GS yourself.
because he doesn’t know it himself
The honest truth is that aside from utility, GS is kind of bad in PvP because anyone that knows what they’re doing isn’t going to let you 100b them. I’d say you’d be better off using either axe/sword or sword/sword but I understand the feeling of not wanting to drop GS. It’s too awesome of a weapon.
Display your build for better advice.
I prefer great sword, but after playing an ele/mesmer/guardian/thief/necro it has become easier for to anticipate what these professions are about to do. For me, I use a lot physical utilities. Thieve’s don’t have much stability and limited stun breaks when using sword.
Well for starters you should have the fire field at your feet most of the time. GS is good for evading (#3) and gaining some distance when you need a breather (#5).
Thieves in general are a big PITA for warriors, if their player knows what they’re doing.
So, there was this teleporting thieve that is just a pain in the kitten when im on my warrior, i play GS/Bow focused on Mobile Strikes, but i just can’t beat them.
On Mesmer i have easier time when having these encounters, but i love my warrior…
Any clue what should i do?
Honestly, LB/GS should never win against S/D. They can dodge your hard hitters (LB 5, mostly) and the dodging will also nullify a lot of damage from your fire field.
Weapons that can work with practice are indeed mace shield, sword shield and, to some extent, hammer. All other weapons are incapable of locking the thief down long or often enough to be able to kill them. Even with these weapons it will be hard to actually land your needed attack, because of the telegraphing.
Hulk Roaming Montages/Build Vids
I always rage but never quit.
I see, i’ve been testing with stomp, im doing a lil better with this utility, it opens some window to land some strikes from 100b or for some running to catch a breath… although, i realised, that Thieves are just the “counter” for Warriors…
I really, really dont want to come back to hammer… hehe.
Thank you all for the feedback fellas!
As I mentioned, I’ve found duel-sword/longbow really strong against thieves, then again it’s strong against anything in 1v1, almost every profession and build is soloable.
Most thieves eventually tries to use Steal and then whirlwind you, that’s the PERFECT moment to use Flurry and Endure Pain. They can’t move, you take no damage and meanwhile you load a lot of short bleeds on them.
Before I was always scared of that whirlwind attack, but with that combo that I found any thief that uses Steal on me will regret they ever used the ability to begin with.
Other than that, easiest counter as duelsword warrior is just spam autoattack, as I mentioned earlier. They wont be able to dodge every attack, especially if you run Duel Wield Agility (which I tested but I prefer the extra adrenaline from crits), and the condition does the rest.
It may sound like the cheapest move in history, but to beat a thief, you gotta play cheap and dirty, cause that’s how you win when playing as a thief. Use it against them.

This is total bull again. Anybody with a brain won’t let you use eviscerate by that logic, this is why you use control skills such as pin down and bull charge to land the 100b
I found that paying attention to where they are shadow stepping from and placing a well timed burst on that location seems to work pretty well. CCing them when they try to steal and bursting also works nice.
