After many weeks of playing around with different builds I think I have found what seems to work best for Greatsword lovers like myself. Pretty tanky build, and great damage when your opponents are stunned or knocked down.

Must be timely with your stuns/knockdowns because that is when most of your damage is going to come into play. If you can pull off a successful Hammer rotation ending with Earthshaker and following up with 100B’s you will destroy your opponent. The Sigil of Intel and Sigil of Impact on the Greatsword stacks some massive damage on 100B’s or Whirlwind on weopon swap if our opponent is stunned.

If you want to be even more tanky then swap for Rune of the Dolyak. You will be suprised at how much damage you can still do with this setup, but almost be unkillable 1v1 with Dolyak rune.

I’d say the biggest problem is people will either dodge or stunbreak your stun, which will decrease your DPS to very low levels. This is why Hambow is so good. Your opponent is forced to stand in your longbow burst, which keeps up DPS at all times. You also stack might like crazy on hambow. This build stacks maybe 4 might aside from SoR?

No crit chance, no crit damageaside from traits, no conditions, Signet of Might is incredibly situational and thus best not taken… Really the only thing this build offers is mobility, but then, any GS build offers that.

IMO HammerGS is a great spec, but not for PvP.

This. You shouldn’t run WvW specs in PvP, especially if there’s no longbow in that build.

Yes, combined with Impact it makes 100B or Whirlwind deal massive damage on weopon swap to a stunned opponent.

I think you guys are seriously underestimating the damage on this build. Give it a try for yourself if you enjoy Hammer/GS. I use Signet of Might because the build is already tanky and i prefer the extra power. You can bunker down on a capture point and still dish out some sick damage later on in the fight when they no longer have stability.

I’m just not a fan of the Longbow in sPvP. I love it in WvWvW though.

GS/Hammer has a lot of mobility and is ideal in WvW.
For PvP, people take the Longbow because it is a reliable condition cleanse and also great pressure (F1) on the small point.

This isn’t to say landing all your Hammer skills and GS Whirlwinds isn’t good damage, nor is dodging and having movement down perfectly to negate CC and kiting isn’t something a skilled player can’t possess.

By the way, if you truly love GS, play GS/LB 40406 complete with Frenzy Bulls Charge. Takes you way back 2 years ago to the thug life.

Yes GS/Hammer is not ideal for PVP but it can still be fun, but not on such a bad build.
This whole build based around landing earthshaker, it has no dmg without it, and many enemies just won’t let you do it, at least not without some set up – which it has none: bull’s charge, pin down, bolas, leg specialist…
There is also no granted Condi removal – if you dont land earthshaker – you will found out that those 26K HP can burn/bleed/torment down faster then u think.

Don’t get me wrong, I did not intend to insult. Takes some courage to actually post a build here.

He asked for my thoughts, and I think the build can actually improve a bit. Though in general, it is not very suited for PvP imo.

End of the day, I hardly PvP anymore, unless it’s trying out some trolly spec in hotjoin.

Although, in PvP, you would be able to stack a lot of might when cleaving.

Yes thats the reason ROM played 4 in arms too
Its not that hard to notice that the traitline in arms fits much better with celestial and hoelbrak rune than a 10% multiplier in strength

What rune do you use?

Hölbrak ofc the same rune every warrior uses in pvp.
It fits the best with the greatsword trait in arms.
