Finally deciding to share top tier WvW builds
Does a full (or near full) tank warrior have any place in WvW? For any aspect? Always wanted to be a huge meatshield, but unfortunately I don’t believe they have a role in anything in Guild Wars
The thing about going “Full Tank” is that you make yourself absolutely useless. People will be smart enough to ignore you as you stand their doing little to no damage. Meanwhile you can go a Valkyire/Cavaliers or Knights/Cavalier set and be almost as tanky while dealing large amounts of dps.
What about a Shout-Regen Tank with full Clerics and moderate power? Yes, it sacrifices some damage output, but the survivability is quite good (with triple condition removal and instant-cast heals not counting the 9.6k adrenaline heal itself).

In regards to the 20/0/20/0/30 Hammer/GS Build, Do you think it would be worth moving 10 pts from Discipline or Str Trees to Arms for “Unsuspecting Foe” making it so that Earthshaker always crits (since I think it applies stun before damage), and the Backbreaker will crit if you follow up.
Also, What would you do traitwise for an Axe/Shield – GS, Either with a full zerk setup or a Knight/Cavalier/Zerk Mix, cause I have both a Zerk and a Mixed set, the Mixed set with Melandru/food for condi’s

Full Clerics can definitely work as long as you have teammates to make up for your damage loss. Although I’d suggest losing On My Mark and possibly changing up your traits.

1) Spending 10 points to get some unneeded precision and a trait that only benefits one of your skills is a bad choice.
2) As for the Axe/Shield-GS set it would really depend on what you plan doing. Be it roaming I’d suggest more dps, be it more group oriented I’d suggest balanced.

For your second comment, In regards to Roaming (Axe/Shield – GS), what do you think a dps as opposed to balanced traitline would look like?
I can’t seem to decide on what I want to give up because I feel like
Forceful GS, Slashing Power, Last Stand, and Mobile Strikes are all incredibly useful master traits but can usually only pick up 2-3 of these
Hey everyone Titan here,
If you don’t know me the let me quickly sum up who I am.-Former head theory crafter for one of the top NA WvW Guilds(Fist of the Empire)
- 1,000+ hours played on Warrior
Titan[PAXA]/WarriorWho are you? What guild is that? Who cares?
I’m pretty sure he answered your question. He is Titan. The guild is Fist of the Empire. And Warriors care since this is posted in the warriors sub-forum yet you have a ranger build in your signature.. so… why are you here and why should we care that you posted?
My fun laughs at your server pride.

a. Replace “On My Mark” with “Fear Me”?
b. What trait replacements would you suggest? The only traits that I would not replace are the shout traits (Tactics VIII & XII and Discipline IV; the rest are negotiable)
(I tend to use a variety of weapons, so I’m flexible as to what to use)

Tank have the place in WvW.
First role – heavy frontline, 0-0-30-20-20, melandru runes, hammer+1h sword+warhorn. You role is going in front, CC with hammer, eat damage, clear condi with warhorn traits, blasts on regroups, etc.
Second role – heavy support, 0-0-25-30-15, soldier runes, 2-3 shouts, hammer+1h sword+warhorn. Condi cleanse+healing on run, frontline CC, blasts.
In any spec you need 25k+ hp and 2800+ armor.
25 charracters
Suggested using a rifle warr for solo roaming… I’ll be moving on now.
Jangeol – WvW Warrior
Zerk rifle is fun spec. Not op, have alot of disadvantages, but fun.

So Titan.. could you link your top 3 favorite builds.. what gear you use with them.. and what situations they are good in.. solo/small group/zerg? Thanks
Excels at solo roaming if played correctly. Must be aware of when to disengage and which key skills to dodge.
Small Group/Zerg( Reliant on team for Condi Cleanse): http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fIAQJASRjcOJvNPuQMxBEThiQ9oNqjNM9QMGw0A-jkxAYrARggSgFRjtqVENWtNmKmIqWIAzLAA-w
Great for both five mans and zerg fights but requires some sort of condition cleansing from a team mate. Excels when combined with a support guardian for both the condition cleans as well as stability.
Small Group/Zerg( No Reliant on team for Condi Cleanse): http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fIAQJASRjcOJvtQyQMxBEkCNkLMKKCgQ9oNqjNE-jEyAYrARggSeZNBOExyYR0Y12YKXhUVcklBgZBA-w
Very balanced build that is self reliant. Viable as a solo roamer as well but takes some finesse.
your group hammer/greatsword shout build is interesting. whats the advantage of running the greatsword over sword/warhorn. I know GS is a nice mobility weapon and very usefull for bombing a downed target to prevent res zerging, but sword/warhorn provides similar movement abilites, while at the same time switching out tactics VII for tactics IV would bring significant anti cc and condition clears to your entire group as well as a very usefull blast finisher. Very curious to hear your rationale here.
also why not slot out endure pain for fear me? taking advange of the extra shout?
typically whats your group makeup? I assume double guardian since you have zero stability in this melee only build. but what else are you running for dps?

If you could do me a favor and fill in the rest of the build I’d gladly kitten it. It seems to be missing a secondary weapon.
wow, looked at all the builds hes sharing and just wow. Those are definately not going to do much for anyone if you solo or small group roam.
there is 1 “Best build” for warriors in all situations for WvW. Patch might alter it a bit but all the builds he is posting will not beat it. You can always duel me on YB if youd like to see just how much each of those would fail. Whisper Bi Furious if youre up against us.
Is there such a thing as a ranged warrior roamer? Or is ranged solely a glass cannon setup sniper of sorts?
For the WvW who enjoys playing ranged, can you recommend a build?

1) Axe/Shield-GS DPS Traitlines(Zerker Gear):
- 10(Beserker’s Power)/30(Deep Cuts, Rending Strikes, Forceful GS)/0/0/30(Heightened Focus, Mobile Strikes, Destruction of the Empowered)
- 20(Berserker’s Power, Slashing Power)/25(Deeps Cuts, Forceful GS)/0/0/25(Heightened Focus, Mobile Strikes)
- 20(Berserker’s Power, Slashing Power)/20(Deep Cuts, Forceful GS)/0/0/30(Heightened Focus, Mobile Strikes, Destruction of the Empowered)
2) Axe/Shield-GS Balanced Trailines(Knight’s/Cavalier’s Gear):
-10(Berserker’s Power)/30(Deep Cuts, Rending Strikes, Forceful GS)/0/0/30(Heightened Focus, Mobile Strikes, Destruction of the Empowered)
-20(Berserker’s Power, Slashing Power)/0/20( Dogged March, Last Stand)/0/30(Heightened Focus, Mobile Strikes, Destruction of the Empowered)
-10(Berserker’s Power)/0/0/30(Leg Specialist, “Shrug It Off”, Vigorous Shouts)/30(Heightened Focus, Mobile Strikes, Destruction of the Empowered)
Do you have any tips on killing phantasm mesmers in WvW? As a roamer I seem to come across them more and more and it frustrates me that I can’t really do anything against them.
What would be a good weapon set and build that could beat them easier.

2) Unless you are keen on using Longbow I would suggest using Hammer and picking up Merciless Hammer in the Defense Tree.

typically whats your group makeup? I assume double guardian since you have zero stability in this melee only build. but what else are you running for dps?
1) GS vs Sword/Horn:
- GS:
a: Superior single target and cleave damage.
b: Superior Mobility(if and only if you are receiving chill/cripple/immobilize removal else where)
c: Superior usage of mobile strikes. Ex. Shatter mesmer immobilizes you, hinting at a incoming shatter, Whirlwind out to break immobilize/evade shatter.
-Sword:
a: Superior CC capabilities via immobilizes.
b: Superior condi cleans.
c: Access to additional boons.
So as you can see, if you have a support guardian or ele with you, GS is the more viable option. Where as if you are relying on yourself in large zerg fights Sword/Horn is possibly a better option.
Endure Pain vs Fear Me:
- My logic on this is as follows. Fear Me hits a maximum of 5 people(immune if they have stability) and heals for a minimal amount. Meanwhile Endure Pain can completely stop an enemies attempt at bursting you regardless of their boons or if you are CC’d.
My 5 man make-up in a nut shell:
- Support Guardian
- Balanced DPS Guardian
- Epidemic Necro
- Shatter Mesmer
- Balanced DPS Warrior

Sadly outside of glassy setups warriors have a slight problem pulling off ranged.
You can attempt a 10/30/0/0/30 Knights/Cavaliers Rifle setup but the damage decrease will be rather significant.
Do you have any tips on killing phantasm mesmers in WvW? As a roamer I seem to come across them more and more and it frustrates me that I can’t really do anything against them.

Against well played mesmers, warriors don’t stand much of a chance. Your best bet would to go a balanced build that is edged more on dps and try and shock and awe them. Although be aware of how many evades/teleports mesmers have and know when to burst. If the fight lasts too long you will surely lose due to how little sustain warriors have.
I’ve only got two questions: on the days when heavy wvw’ing is at hand, what kind of toast do you prepare, and why?
I’m sorry – is it just me or does anyone else think that talking about current builds in depth is kinda “late” (didn’t wanna say “useless”) considering that in 4 days some major changes are going to be made in every class’ trait lines? Just asking, no offense or anything…
Sure, I’m always open for an opinion -
I mostly prefer ranged combat.
Armor/trinkets is a mix between Knight/Cavalier to get a decent-ish balance between Toughness and Crit rate/damage. Zerker weapons just for the extra damage
Runes are for boon duration, allowing for perma-fury and swiftness with SoR, as well as perma-vigor from Warhorn when needed.
With Fury from SoR I feel less reliant on FGJ, so instead using Frenzy for quick burst.
Condition removal through “Shake it Off” and Warhorn/Quick Breathing
Balanced stance for stability as well as all 3 utilities being stun breakers.
Piercing from Arms VII somewhat negates the lack of AoE and with Arms XI it allows for fast Adrenaline building.
Thoughts/opinions/suggestions/criticisms?

We still aren’t 100% sure those notes are real, and people still need something for right now. WvW reset is tonight.

Thanks, what justifies the warriors position in this group over say, another shatter/condition mesmer which makes the necro stronger, or an hgh or bomb toolkit eng again which synergizes better with the necro and brings better cc or healing depending on spec. Or even a ranger which is more self reliant and via water field brings much more healing than warrior shouts as well as roots, one of the best cc’s in the game.
The warrior here seems to be the weak link no?
(edited by Haz.9864)
I’m looking for an axe/shield-longbow build or rifle as secondary if you recommend it. I’d like to be able to do dungeons as well as WvW. Do you think you could help me out? Thanks!
Could use some feedback.
Pros:
1. Permanent Signet of Rage. PERMANENT. Never goes down. That means 5 stacks of might, swiftness, and Fury.
2. Really good mobility. I use the greatsword these days more for the mobility than anything else. It is truly unmatched. The way a solo or skirmisher warrior survives is by resetting the fight by kiting; we have no other mechanism.
3. Conditions fall off you. Not as extreme as wearing runes that help but it is still significant enough that you don’t have to micromanage conditions on top of trying to get on the target.
4. Quick weapon swap and 1 trait swap and you are a longbow wielding fiend when up against a keep in a zerg setting.
5. Gap closers and root specialist to keep the target close to the big sword and big hammer; essential when running no range weaponry as main build.
6. Damage pressure WITH stuns. I am a firm believer of the Hammer now after using it over the last week. I’ve managed to win and live on a few 3 on 1s with the hammer. Yes, it was really poor players but really nice to see those kinds of results. The key is decent burst damage WITH the CC so that you not only shut people down but damage comes with it.
Runes to help with Permanent Signet of Rage:
The build involves using 3 sets of boon duration runes and 20 in tactics to ensure you can run signet of rage for 48 seconds. Then pick up signet mastery to reduce the reset timer of signet of rage to 48 seconds.
Utilities:
Signet of fury is critical for this build to offset the lower critical chance AND more importantly it gives you options to open. If I am about to enter a skirmish (not 1 v 1) I typically pop this to gain full adrenaline and open up with earthshatter. If I am in a keep battle and there are some annoying folks up top, with signet of mastery, you can continuously pop this signet to drop F1 bombs all day long from your longbow. It is actually quite effective whether you’re attacking the keep or up top defending it.
This build also gives me the opportunity to use Frenzy – you can use endure pain, balanced stance (on top of last stand) or any other utility like fear me alternatively and I often will switch it up for a change of pace. The key here is that I like to be able to use different utilities and not feel locked down. I always ran with FGJ to offset when signet of rage is down but with the perma swiftness, might, and fury no longer do you need it, which is great. I’ve also been running with signet of stamina. Remember we have signet mastery so any other signet you might find useful can help. The passive on signet of stamina = more dodges, and in the event you are being spam rooted and the 73% condition reduction on immobilizes isn’t enough it is a get out of jail free card; specially skills like the ranger elite that continuously roots you and you don’t have enough time to kill the roots.
You also can comfortably use Healing Surge because honestly it’s the best heal we have in terms of numbers and giving you a full adrenaline bar if you didn’t have one. Conditions again will relatively bounce off you with Dogged March and Lemongrass.
Without the hammer and a timed pressure earthshatter swing it is very very difficult to take down thieves for me. Even with the hammer it is difficult because of how over the top they are when the heal at will in stealth and blind like nobodies business. This build gives me a chance. Alternatively I am thinking that if I use Balanced Stance and drop Last Stand I MIGHT try Spiked Armor to see if retaliation actually helps.
Armor Choices:
I am wearing primarily full zerker. I have run 3k to 3200 armor with knights gear and to be honest I really haven’t noticed a difference. The main difference I see is I do less burst and that is enough for me to consider going back to full zerker.
Stats:
You get 72% crit with 0 specced in arms (81% crit with full adrenaline) and 76% critical damage bonus; I feel this is great! Power is low, so I carry a greatsword with bloodlust on it to farm some mobs some before I want to seriously skirmish to get the power up, then switch back to the air signet greatsword.
Pending on your choice, you can switch out Empowered for Shrug it Off. I find 6% damage boost pretty nice without ANY other boons on you since you’re guaranteed to have those up unless someone strips it. Plus, by not speccing 10 in Strength you offset it with this trait; remember permanent 3 boons on you unless someone strips it.
Could use some feedback.

I am wearing primarily full zerker. I have run 3k to 3200 armor with knights gear and to be honest I really haven’t noticed a difference. The main difference I see is I do less burst and that is enough for me to consider going back to full zerker.Stats:
You get 72% crit with 0 specced in arms (81% crit with full adrenaline) and 76% critical damage bonus; I feel this is great! Power is low, so I carry a greatsword with bloodlust on it to farm some mobs some before I want to seriously skirmish to get the power up, then switch back to the air signet greatsword.Pending on your choice, you can switch out Empowered for Shrug it Off. I find 6% damage boost pretty nice without ANY other boons on you since you’re guaranteed to have those up unless someone strips it. Plus, by not speccing 10 in Strength you offset it with this trait; remember permanent 3 boons on you unless someone strips it.
If you want more damage you can move 10 from tactics and 5 from defense into strength for berserker power, damage on dodge and endurance regain on burst. You’ll loose 3s from SOR, but I think you’ll be ok. Of course new patch on 25th which wil change quite a bit in your build.
wow, looked at all the builds hes sharing and just wow. Those are definately not going to do much for anyone if you solo or small group roam.
there is 1 “Best build” for warriors in all situations for WvW. Patch might alter it a bit but all the builds he is posting will not beat it. You can always duel me on YB if youd like to see just how much each of those would fail. Whisper Bi Furious if youre up against us.
big talk. Hes paxa so you are already dead. you just dont know it yet
PAXA?…
The guild who claims to zerg bust but run away when offered to 5v5 or 10v10 a guild like RE back when we were on DH?
The same members that refuse to 1v1 who could only fight with their small team?
The same guild who kills off noob stragglers from zergs and call that an ambush?…
Yea, take this guys’ words serious, so you will refuse to fight 1v1 or run away at the sight of another 5v5 or 10v10 organized group, or claim victory picking off stragglers from a zerg.
Haha LittleFeather, its been a while. I used to go by another name back then, but you’d remember me. Guess I’ll have to hop on vent and talk with you and Ethersin.
this is my tanky DPS build. Built it after I got sick of rolling pvt and being a useless sack of garbage in small fights. Does me well but I really want It to be as perfect as I can make it so that one day paxa will get to a zerg late just to find it was already destroyed by me jokes but tell me what you think on how to improve
So Titan.. could you link your top 3 favorite builds.. what gear you use with them.. and what situations they are good in.. solo/small group/zerg?
1) GS vs Sword/Horn:
- GS:
a: Superior single target and cleave damage.
b: Superior Mobility(if and only if you are receiving chill/cripple/immobilize removal else where)
c: Superior usage of mobile strikes. Ex. Shatter mesmer immobilizes you, hinting at a incoming shatter, Whirlwind out to break immobilize/evade shatter.-Sword:
a: Superior CC capabilities via immobilizes.
b: Superior condi cleans.
c: Access to additional boons.
Meanwhile Endure Pain can completely stop an enemies attempt at bursting you regardless of their boons or if you are CC’d.My 5 man make-up in a nut shell:
- Support Guardian
- Balanced DPS Guardian
- Epidemic Necro
- Shatter Mesmer
- Balanced DPS WarriorThanks, what justifies the warriors position in this group over say, another shatter/condition mesmer which makes the necro stronger, or an hgh or bomb toolkit eng again which synergizes better with the necro and brings better cc or healing depending on spec. Or even a ranger which is more self reliant and via water field brings much more healing than warrior shouts as well as roots, one of the best cc’s in the game.
The warrior here seems to be the weak link no?
Yes and no. My hammer burst, despite being in balanced gear, can hit a 3-6k Backbreaker>2-4k Staggering Blow>4-6k Earthshaker> 2-5k Fierce Blow> 1-3k Hammer Shock> 8-15k 100 Blades. One thing warriors don’t lack on is 2 things.
They are an easy target to justify training, and they have some of the highest dps in game both signle target and cleave.
Now with me being in this group, everything is synergized around me.
- Support Guardian: Provides boons, moderate sustain, CC rings/lines, condition removal, and a party wide full heal.
- Balanced Guardian: Provides boons, moderate DPS, CC rings/pulls, condition removal.
- Necro: Provides mass AoE pressure, provides boon ripping.
- Shatter Mesmer: Provides high burst, provides a free team mate that doesn’t get targeted 99.9% of the time.
- Balanced Warrior: Provides high cleaving DPS, provides heavy CC Stuns/Immobilize, provides a “sponge”, given that almost every team targets me first.
Now if we were to switch myself for a necro. The necros would get instantly trained, leading to lack of pressure and lack of boon removal. With no pressure going out and only a balanced guardian and a shatter mesmer you’ll have a hard time focusing something that has a support guardian at their side.
Piercing from Arms VII somewhat negates the lack of AoE and with Arms XI it allows for fast Adrenaline building.Thoughts/opinions/suggestions/criticisms?
(Sorry for the copy/paste from original thread)
Is this for solo roaming, small group play, or zerging?
PAXA?…
The guild that killed me enough times to make me angry enough to post fallacies on the forums?
Yeah, that one. Glad you remember us.

Might work on this.
For WvW, being with zerg all time.
If you could do me a favor and fill in the rest of the build I’d gladly kitten it. It seems to be missing a secondary weapon.
Not a bad balanced build although you lack mobility. I’d suggest picking up Crack Shot in Arms, and Dogged March in Defense. Also I’d suggest running -condition duration food with your Melandru Runes to completely negate conditions.
Also for your second utility slot I’d change that to either Signet of Fury(Instant Adrenaline), Signet of Might(Unblockable Kill Shots), or Endure Pain.
I’m looking for an axe/shield-longbow build or rifle as secondary if you recommend it. I’d like to be able to do dungeons as well as WvW. Do you think you could help me out? Thanks!
Sadly I would not suggest running a axe/shield-ranged build due to its lack of mobility. If you insist on running one reply back and I’ll give you a link.

If the leaked notes are true:
Sword/warhorn, axe/shield. Bizznatch.
Not Just A Goodtime – 80 Asura Warrior
[PAXA]
The key is decent burst damage WITH the CC so that you not only shut people down but damage comes with it.Runes to help with Permanent Signet of Rage:
The build involves using 3 sets of boon duration runes and 20 in tactics to ensure you can run signet of rage for 48 seconds. Then pick up signet mastery to reduce the reset timer of signet of rage to 48 seconds.Utilities:
Signet of fury is critical for this build to offset the lower critical chance AND more importantly it gives you options to open. If I am about to enter a skirmish (not 1 v 1) I typically pop this to gain full adrenaline and open up with earthshatter. If I am in a keep battle and there are some annoying folks up top, with signet of mastery, you can continuously pop this signet to drop F1 bombs all day long from your longbow. It is actually quite effective whether you’re attacking the keep or up top defending it.
Hey Tyrion,
Great read and thank you for posting. First I’ll start with what I like about your build.
Likes:
- GS/Hammer Combo.
- Mobile Strikes, Dogged March, Merciless Hammer, and Leg Specialist pick ups.
- Bull’s Strike(If and only if solo/2 man roaming).
- Opinion on Frenzy, its great for some situations and horrid for others. I’m glad you switch it up and use other utilities to your advantage when needed.
- 15 points in Discipline is a must for a GS/Hammer build due to how much synergy the weapons have together.
- Zerker/Knights balance: This balance is absolutely great for roaming and zerging. But if you ever get into organized 5-10 man you’ll find yourself dropping rather quickly when focused.
Dislikes:
- Signet of Fury: Don’t see the necessary pick up with this. Better options out there over getting more Earthshakers.
- Bull’s Charge( Unless your doing solo/duo roaming, I feel that it loses its need when you run in a 5 man).
- Spiked Armor and Empowered. I would rather see you either go 20 points in strength or 10 points in strength and pick up Last Stand.
- Boon Duration runes, I feel that these are actually gimping your potential compared to Divinity, Ogre, Scholar, Melandru.

Hands down wonderful pressure/ condi removal build. See a lot of potential here. The only problems I see are after your cools are down your an easy target. Not much I would change except for maybe Divinity Runes.
It seems to perfectly fit its niche and can even sneak in a high burst Evis.
Would possibly suggest trying out something a little more balanced. Knights/Zerkers.
As someone who has been running a semi-tanky hammer shout warrior pretty much since launch, how do you feel the GS compares to sword/warhorn? Most of our warriors run sword/warhorn these days. A few run axe or shield in off-hand and only one person runs a GS. The new blast finisher on warhorn 5 is awesome as well. With sword leap you can also go through veils to get chaos armor before slamming into enemy groups.
I’m mainly talking about running with 15-25 and trying to bust blobs.

When it comes to 15-25 mans I feel that 3 weapon sets truly shine.
-Hammer-Sword/Axe
-Hammer-GS
-Hammer-Sword/Horn
Sword/Axe: Leap into a group and hit axe 5, then proceed to dodge mid-whirl to avoid all damage while AoEing down groups.
GS: Best mobility/DPS, high risk high reward due to 100b root.
Sword/Horn: Safest option and provides great team support.

got the food in too. hope i didnt miss anything. The Signet is purely preference and I find can be switched out with any of them (cept yak sig) without seeing to much of a change. (for instance I use stamina against guards with GS and hammer while reserving might and fury for other scenarios)
