I’m somewhat surprised that this hasn’t become a mechanic in this game yet. We have a few unblockable attacks or skills that cause them and things like condition damage – which can only be reduced in duration – but no physical attacks which do a fixed amount of damage past armor and reduction buffs.

I feel like this might be an interesting direction to go with certain attacks (especially for warriors) if done correctly. I haven’t seen a thread about the concept yet; any thoughts?

That’s a would be a very interesting and fitting class feature to the Warrior.
For example; Trait that allowed the Warrior one such" Armor Piercing Strike" every 10 seconds with the next melee attack.

It would allow the Warrior to pressure and compete against classes that have a high ProtectionBoon uptime, and it would also have a player-skill requirement in using it to its fullest potential.

Good idea ! The Warrior needs more class specific features.

But not something like that. We have enough cheese with burning on crit traits that we can’t even dodge. But burst skills on the other hand..

Honestly, my personal experience with fixed damage hits in other games is that they’re either too weak or too strong.

And let’s face it, you cannot possibly balance it in this game. Because look at what we have:

  • Guardians have the lowest base HP but access to boons makes them very tanky
  • Necromancers have the highest base HP but literally no means of reducing damage

Just from those two, you run into issues. If you balance it around the Necros high HP, then you decimate Guardians. If you balance it around the low HP of the Guardian, it’ll be weak against Necros and Warriors.

And let’s face it, fixed damage is boring. There’s nothing there. No exciting high damage hits, no kiting waiting for the damage to be dealt. It just… is.
