For those that want a "break" from the PvP
A bit off topic, so this will likely be locked, but I was a very huge Tribes Ascend and Smite player. To the point where I actually applied to work at HiRez at one point. (I will be honest and disclose that I was not happy with how that was professionally handled.) I have a friend who also has worked heavily with them as a contractor.
I will be honest, the game SMITE is amazing, and their new game paladins is also fairly awesome. That said, Hi Rez is a very toxic company. The smite community has a “clich” so to speak and if you are not in it, you may run into a rough time becoming a content creator etc. Hi Rez themselves actually tends to “embrace” this and hire all of the content creators and whatnot within the that small circle as well, which makes the problem worse. (Example: Diem, drybear, mamacita, etc were all streamers before hi rez hired them.)
The company also has a rough history. People spent tons of money on tribes ascend, and it was basically dropped on its head after it was not profitable. In their defense however, they at least left the servers up, and now 3 devs have taken the time to try to “resurrect” it. I am concerned for what will happen if SMITE suffers a similar fate. They also went heavily into the “random chest reward” direction for skins and voicepacks. I left right after season 1 ended, and it was quite disturbing to see how they went from the old system to the new chest one.
Over all, SMITE is a fun game, but a different type. It is F2p, and the god pack is dirt cheap if you decide to invest, so I advise checking it out, but be wary of Hi Rez. They make some fun products, but most of the staff originates from a non gaming company and many of the server stability issues and patch issues they’ve had show it. They are also relatively new in the space when it comes to making a profitable game, so they tend to swing the pendulum overboard in various directions when making corporate direction swings (In my opinion) and the end users feel that in some cases.
Thank you for the input Bezerker, I wan not to far ahead with my “plan” though:)
I used to watch a lot of drybear in the past and heard HiRez is very ok with pro active content creators. What follows we’ll see..nothing is set in stone.
As fas as for Tribes Ascend I can see why they would abandon it although as you said it was nice of them to keep the servers running and I heard they actually released a content patch for it quite recently.
I guess Tribes wasn’t profitable enough so that’s why it was left by the side.
On the other hand I don’t see Smite ending up in the same place just because it is so popular. I mean they already had like 1.3mil $ prize pool last year from what I remember, for a new moba game that is quite impressive and I guess it will only go higher from here.
Anyway I don’t want ppl to think I’m trying to break the community or anything, if anything I see cries for help all over the place on these forums and if there is a game out there that encourages you to leave and come back that is GW2!
I love the game but in all honesty Anet is taking wayyy too much time between balance patches and that just leaves us the players with more time on our hands to be disappointed and vent our frustrations on these forums witch sometimes don’t seem to be read by the right ppl at Anet although I might be wrong, Anet is just not transparent enough to give us hope for the future atm.
