Hey all.

Most of the time when on my guardian I’m running with a bloodlust sigil and It seems to be working out for me. However what makes me sad is getting downed in a dungeon and then loosing my stacks, or certain trivial mobs not awarding those stacks to begin with. This leads me to my warrior, with which i’m wondering how much of a dissadvantage the Force sigil would be over the bloodlust one….Would anyone know how many stacks of bloodlost would equal 5% total damage? Would this 5% damage be based on my maximum attack value or so, and what would be th best way to approach this.

Thank you all in advance.

I could be wrong, but this is the way I read it:

The Superior Sigil of Bloodlust gives 10 power per stack, so 250 power at the maximum number of stacks.

The wiki says that power increases damage linearly. If it really is linear, I would expect an across the board difference. In my case, my power is ~2000, so having a power of ~2250 would be a 12.5% increase for me.

The specific formula, according to the wiki, is:

Damage done = (weapon damage) * Power * (skill-specific coefficient) / (target’s Armor)

So, against a target with 2200 armor, the unmodified damage value would be something like 1000 * 2000 * 1.0 / 2200 = 909. Increase your power by 250, and it would be something like 1000 * 2250 * 1.0 / 2200 = 1022.

Bear in mind, that would be an increase to your base damage so other things that use your power as a multiplier would be increased I would think.

Now, a straight +5% increase would be obviously less effective, but you’ve got to factor in that you get that bonus 100% of the time, right out of the gate.

How long does it take you to build up the stacks?

What prevents you from having two of the same weapon and building up the stacks using one and then switching to the other for the 5% increase on top of that?

A lot of people do this in WvW since it is so easy to kill some mobs and cap the stacks.

well I have read research from reddit.

Bloodlust gives 8.8% – 4.4% damage increase depending on attack power 1000 – 2000 power. I suppose people have around 2600 power and maintaining 25 stacks are troublesome.
Sigil of force is plain 5%.

It’s situational. Personally I find the 5% one to be more okay for specialized use (dungeons, PvP, etc) since it’s more static – no need to find mobs to kill to build up power itself.

Also, once you go down, no more stacks. /sadpanda

It depends what your base power is. Since damage is calculated by (weapon strength * power * skill coefficient)/(defense + toughness), a 5% increase in damage can be roughly equated to a 5% increase in power. If you build power, it means that the Sigil of Force is going to be more powerful than Bloodlust; you would only get returns (if any) from the bloodlust over the Sigil of Force after you’ve accumulated a lot of stacks, which isn’t particularly viable. If you have a low power, let’s say that you have your base 916 at level 80 and your items give you an additional 200 so you have 1116 power, then a 5% increase would give you an effective +55 power, which equates to 5 stacks from bloodlust (which is very easy to do if you have 2 weapons each with bloodlust on them, so you accumulate stacks twice as fast; three enemies would outpace the Sigil of Force). If you’re going a tanky guardian and not putting much into the power trait line, I would go bloodlust. If you are buffing power a lot, drop bloodlust like a hot potato with a spider on it.

Bloodlust gets cancelled on downed, entering new level, entering new fractal, doesn’t build on certain foes (Lava grubs on shaman fractal) All up superior fire/air make a nice compromise.

Well, as a warrior we can use (and carry :/ ) almost all weapons, so you can balance the sigils for each one of them.
GS Force, Axe Bloodlust, Mace Battle, Warhorn Battle, Hammer Force/Paralyzation/Impact, LB Accuracy, Rifle Force/Perception, Sword Energy, Shield Hydromancy (WvW).
If you only play PvE, you could replace Force for Night, or an specific dungeon mob.

I’ve tested it. Results were Criting more often resulted in higher DPS. It’s important to have high power though since a target with high toughness cancels out the damage. Thats also a main reason why criting more consistently is better. Ofcourse ANET wants to make no point in critting by bringing crit damage closer to base damage. So I think in the grand sceem of things you are better off running a bunker or a condition build which is what ANET says they do not want but at the same time everything they always do drives people to that.
