Was checking out the new paired server play in WvW last night. Fun! My server (IoJ) struggles with low WvW population. It was nice to see zergs again, tons of roamers, thieves to gank you around every corner, and actual battleground queues.

I’ve spent most of the past year in PvP. On warrior. Yes, sick and wrong. Latest balance patch is helpful.

So I find myself wondering about translating my PvP builds to WvW. Is this even sensible, or should I start from scratch? What do you see as key differences between PvP and WvW builds? I mainly like to roam but also want to survive in zerg combat.

Pretty sure warriors still run like this

I can see the utility of this build for larger team fights, but my impression is that I’d have my kitten handed to me in smaller roaming encounters. Am I wrong, or are there general themes that might be better for roaming?

Most pvp builds (outside of bunkering) work well for roaming, as they’re conceptually fairly similar.

I dislike roaming with a passion, but it doesn’t stop me from theorycrafting stupid builds that probably fit better as a roamer than a zergling.

One thing I’d say to keep in mind is that in WvW you’re not locked to fighting on the stupid point and you can in general run glassier, because you can make up for it by disengaging with no penalty to regen some health (this is even more important now since the AH buffs), 3sec disengage~3k HP. You could definitely translate your build if you wanted to. I use berserker amulet in PvP and I run full berserker in WvW, although I’ve seen many many warrior mixing in a bit of knight/cavalier and with good reason. The sweetspot differs for every player, I personally went full yolo and told myself “Git used to it”.

Swap in/out frenzy/endure pain over the bullrush for zerg fights. Also swap in/out axe over the sword when dealing with fights/duels you won’t have to run from. The movement of sword and bullrush is really important for a solo roamer in the new servers.

Defense/mobility: 3 consecutive dodges +vigor from stances, bull rush movement, sword 2, shield 4, shield 5, gs 3, gs 5, signet of rage (swiftness), resistance from healing signet and berserker stance, endure pain at 50% hp,
String all this together and it will be just enough to get away from any bad situation.

Fun combo: on Dh just play with them for a bit and use up any pure invulnerabilities and stabilities they have, proc signet of might and hit them with bullrush….then trigger hundred blades on gs. 3 second stun on the ground + hundred blades = easy kill.

Also swap in/out death from above over peak performance when running around the maps or fighting on the fly.

I like the quickness over burst mastery…even though burst mastery synergizes with adrenal health alot better. (sword burst is gonna be situational afterall anyways…)

Yolo full damage with movement skills galore is the way to go for roamers atm as far as I see it. If you hold an axe up to yer enemy in WvsW, yer begging for a giant zerg to bull rush you from the side….as much fun as I had with axe since the patch I’ve gone back to sword for roaming given someone is always around the corner a few seconds away from butchering me. Similar to pvp, you don’t win 5v1….so don’t try.

Food: always precision with the utility. Food can be whatever. Get the icecream one over the omnommberry ghost (its the same) since its cheaper on the TP.

Using this build myself, I can tell you that it can put out the damage of a full zerker thief while having the survivability of a full regen guardian.
It’s worth a try, I will tell you that much.
