Fun leveling build?
Define fun. I mean when it comes down to it, warrior is a melee class; the mechanics are pretty simple when it comes to PvE. You rarely need to do any fancy things like kite or cc/chain stuff unless your trying to solo something difficult.
The utility skills are pretty much easy to catagorize.
Signets: solo/lazy builds
Shouts/banners: utility/group builds
Physical skills: pvp stuff
Stances: mixed bag, usually pvp oriented.
For PvE leveling, i’d probably stay away from the physical skills, and you generally don’t need stances either. Just get used to grinding away in melee range; its simple true, but what we do as a heavy melee class. Carry around different weapon types i guess if you want. I went through different “phases” when i leveled. Started mostly hammer, then went swords, then axes, then back to hammer. Didn’t touch a GS until i was 80 actually (and now its my main weapon of choice like most warriors)
My favourite, since I hate the greatsword, is axe and warhorn for PvE running around, axe is good high dps with some fun sigils on the weapons (fire and air), high crit chance (rampagers) and signet of precision, with the warhorn adding loads of mobility (can manage perma speed with warhorn and signet of rage). Add whatever utility suits you and Just rocket around throwing flame blasts and lightning strikes at everything : ).
Well, I define “fun” as “being active and effective”.
So, in contrast with, “I’ll be fine even if I dont make choices and press buttons”, active and effective means, “I have choices to make very often, and if I do the right things my performance is much greater.”
Like with an Ele, you’re constantly swapping attunements, but it’s not just about going through a set rotation, your next attunement varies based on the situation, and also your choice of using more skills in the current attunement or switching for the boon will also matter.
I tried making a sort of combo build by going dual sword + warhammer, where I would apply bleeds and then try to keep my target knocked down to bleed out, but hammer was quite slow and it didnt really work so good.
To be honest in general PvE you wont really notice the difference, are you looking to run dungeons etc?
In general PvE a difference can be noted sometimes, when I am doing content higher than my level or if I want to kill stuff quickly or kill multiple enemies.
But mostly the thing I’m after is the “fun” gameplay, without losing too much combat effectiveness.
Anyways, I’ve switched to Axe+Mace / Rifle signet build. I still auto attack most of the time, but at least the mace lets me knockdown or apply vuln, which is marginally more interesting than offhand axe or sword.
I went for the typical Signet build but switched the GS/axe out for the hammer. Hammer is ridiculously fun imo. The autoattack is on par if not better than the GS and has an amazing AoE finisher. It has awesome knockdown/knockback Really useful when enemies hit a little harder or you want to control a large group. I’d carry a GS or axe/axe just in case you want to dish out some concentrated dps or w/e but the hammer should help you mix it up a bit.
I had a lot of fun with dual sword+Longbow crit and condition damage build. Hammer is also extremely entertaining.
