If I go Axe/Mace, I am planning on going Sword/Warhorn and traiting Quick breathing. I’m a bit hesitant to go GS, mainly because of the slow attack speed and the recent quickness nerf. If I go GS, then I’ll likely use Rifle as a secondary.
So, which setup is better in
sPvP?
WvW?
PvE?
Thanks.

Neither.

Warriors are already the weakest sPvP profession. Anet killed warriors even further by reducing quickness.

4x Necromancer, 3x Mesmer, 4x Guardian, 4x Thief, 4 Revenant

I’ve found I can’t funciton without the mobility of the greatsword in any form of PvP be it WvW or structured. The off-hand I’m still not settled on. I use axe+shield right now for the defense and burst move. I use longbow sometimes for the root and AE value. I use hammer sometimes for the utility. I use sword and horn for the mobility and condition removal. But one thing I can’t live without is greatsword.

As for PvE, I use whatever I’m in the mood for. Since I can’t stand PvE content in this game it tends to just be 100b spam with a rifle offhand. If I wanted to try it would be the axe/mace+gs combo probably.

100b is still the king of DPS so use it whenever you can afford to channel the full duration. For high level fractals I switched to Axe/Mace so I can move around while attacking (the Vulnerability stacks are great support too, especially against bosses). Against most fractal bosses standing still is going to get you killed, and it’s bad enough that at melee range it’s harder to dodge most projectile attacks (not enough distance to see them coming), some of wich are quite powerful in FotM.

Anything without a GS or Sword/Warhorn in the weapon set isn’t viable in sPvP because of the lack of mobility. Shield as an offhand is almost always absolutely necessary because it’s one of a warrior’s only defensive CDs.

So Axe/Mace is not viable for sPvP. It does comparable sustained damage to 100B builds, but lacks mobility, meaningful burst and defensive capability. The only benefit is a 2 second knockdown.

Here’s some current viable weapon sets:

Greatsword + Sword/Shield
Greatsword + Longbow
Greatsword + Axe/Shield
Hammer + Sword/Warhorn (debatable)

New Warrior. What is 100b?

Hello,
It is a warrior channeled attack with a great sword….I want to say #2 although may be wrong.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Hundred_Blades

The damage you see from it is cumulative with the final number being the damage you did during the whole attack…I believe.

Sorry, I don’t have a warrior so may be wrong on what attack number it is etc. Just here trying to find a warrior build for a friend and thought I would try to help.

Thanks for the suggestions, I’ll probably go Greatsword + Something. I still don’t understand why people like to go X/Shield, though. Is the 3 second block really that strong?

Greatsword / Hammer is viable if played well and planned out with your team in advance.. otherwise… I always stick with GS + Axe/Shield

3s of block every 30s (24 with trait) is incredible + shield bash sets you up for a perfect eviscerate. 2 dodges + whirlwind + rush + shield block adds some much needed survivability to the warrior.

Try out the rifle for your second weapon. If you have fast hands, it’s a great to switch, volley, cripple, go back to melee. Plus, it alleviates some of our issues with getting kited and runners. Additionally, rifle 3 and f1 track through stealth.

If it’s an issue of getting kited, wouldn’t Sword+Warhorn work as secondary as well? It gives swiftness and a leap, as well as a cripple on top of bladetrail. Also, the weakness really helps in teamfights imo.

Sure, anything with high mobility would help prevent getting kited. Rifle is just my preference. Volley and Killshot are amazing abilities, and Rifle Butt gives you a pinch of added utility for non-stability stomp prevention, breathing space, and heal interrupts. But as you said, S/WH has its bright spots too.
