Hi all!
I’m thinking of trying out warrior for WvW solo roaming and got a few questions.

• Is there any build that is easier to learn for a new warrior? Does not need to be the strongest, but maybe a build that carries a new warrior easier. Appreciate if you include the full build including runes/sigils/armor/weapon/traits etc.
• Is Greatsword mandatory for roaming? Just about every warrior I encounter in WvW roaming was using a GS.
• Is Sword+Board effective in the current meta for roaming? What are its weaknesses and strengths? Who does it struggle to fight against?
• Does anyone actually use dual one-hand weapons? like Sword/Shield + Axe/Warhorn or Axe/torch + Sword/warhorn

I’m personally gravitating towards using a Sword + Board build. I just love this weapon combination in terms of its look and design.
I don’t know if it is good enough though and not sure which alternate weapon would be a good option to pair with.
Is there any good recent video of a sword and board warrior roamer I can watch and learn from?

Edit: I prefer sword and board power builds. Hoping to use and learn a sword+board build that is generally effective against both power and condi enemies.

I mean it is and it isn’t. It’s really up to you. GS just has all the tools you’d need for disengaging/re-engaging enemies at will. Knowing how to pull off and Rush out of a situation that doesn’t favor you in order to sway the fight in your favor is more favorable. I roamed with sw/shield and hammer for like almost 2 years, also did mace/sh and hammer, also GS/Hammer. Was very successful with all of the aforementioned combinations. I have quite a few videos in my sig.

I think with our access to Berserk and how AH works now, GS is pretty clutch, especially with primal 360 degree bursts allowing for perma uptime of the 3 stacks of AH.

Just my 2 cents. But play what you enjoy.

I don’t record much anymore since I’m always deployed to 3rd world countries, but I’d check out Vaans channel, he tends to favor GS and axe/sh, but also has some great tips on how to play if you’re attenative. Good luck out there!

GS Mace/Shield for me…..i love roaming with that set. I very rarely die since with GS i can escape most bad situations.

Condition warriors are easier to play than power warriors. As you’ve stated you’re primarily interested in power builds, I won’t elaborate on this.

For power warriors, yes it is. The GS offers lots of mobility, which is of paramount importance to a warrior. Don’t forget that a warrior cannot stealth no teleport, thus is always visible to the opponent. Mobility is key to survival, especially in WvW when you can get very easily outnumbered.

The GS is great, because it packs lots of interesting skills. GS #3 is probably one of the best skill in the game: high damage, evade, mobility and immobilization removal when traited with Warrior’s Sprint. The Berserker F1 has a range of 450, so as long as you’re not blocked / evaded, you can trigger all F1-based effects easily (Adrenal Health, Cleansing Ire…).

The GS can be paired with almost anything, offering different gameplays each time, which can also explain its popularity. GS/Axe+Shield, GS/Sword+Shield, GS/Hammer, GS/Longbow… are all played differently, and are fun in their own regard.

It’s not bad at all. Its main strength is mobility, although warriors are way less mobile that they used to be, when compared to other classes. The sword offers interesting combos, F1 can be used to immobilize into a burst (GS #2, sword #3), although classes are now more immune to immobilization than they used to be. Its weakness is the damage: both GS AA and the sword AA are bad in terms of damage, unlike the Axe AA which is great (especially with quickness).

I mostly do PvP these days, and the power warrior has become weaker I think, compared to other classes. Good players can read you easily and neutralize your stances and bursts, so it might not be an easy road for you to walk. It’ll be a fun one though.

Many things are playable, but not as strong as setups with a GS. I’ve played sword/axe + mace/shield, and sword/warhorn + axe/shield for some time. These were fun, but less punchy than a GS.

Recent, none that I know. Hollts did some nice vids as “The Swordmaster”, which you may enjoy (latest from 8 months ago). The builds he uses are provided in the description of the videos.

As for learning some of the GS tricks, I’ve always liked Obindo’s “Warrior is beautiful”. It’s from before the enhanced “Adrenal Health”, so people don’t really play the traits anymore (I still play vanilla warrior in PvP!) – but the techniques he shows are completely fine.

1. Basic meta build prettyy easy to pickup and use. Hard to master obviously. there ya go. If you want to complicate things and need another button to press….replace the strength trait line with berserker (just choose the top (first) trait in each column 1-1-1). Honestly things get more complicated when adding berserker mode, and you don’t necessarily really need it for this build (which is something you won’t be able to say for most builds). You can use hoelbrak runes instead of strength….you lose a little damage but it makes getting blinded less of an issue and less frustrating especially if you are new. if you want you can use trinkets with vitality and toughness in them, helps if you are newer….allows you to slow down ur reaction time and learn how to presss things properly without the whole “OMG IM GONNNA DIE I HAVE TO PRESS RANDOM BUTTTONS QUICK OR IM GONNA DIE”

2. ifyou want to be effective, this yes greatsword is pretty much required for roaming. There are a few exceptions obviously (rifle+sword shield) but if you go power warrior you should be taking a gs. even people who run condi warrior take a gs sometimes…lol. condi warriors generally use sword for roaming type stuff……

3. dont use a warhorn, it gives you swiftness at the expense of 2 other useless skills. if you trait ur warhorn you are even more useless. torch can be used. sword shield is used, although you must understand where sword is good and where it isn’t. Generally people don’t use a power weapon and a condi weapon ie. axe/torch. Celestial stats can be rather effective though if you choose that route. I’ve seen plenty of gs+sword celestial warriors doing well.

Sword and board is a common old reference/slang in RPG/MMOs. Sword + board. It’s often used still. The term, maybe not the combo as Warrior.
