Q:
Greatsword warrior in wvw
Only for mobility. And even for mobility sword+warhorn is better.
25 charracters
hammer/gs wrks fine for zerging, usually i endure pain and run into a zerg and just 100b a small group until they realise it….. works most of the time but you have to be smacking the middle where the cluster is high
I only go to WvW when big things like this league beginning soon are active, because it takes too long to find anybody that isn’t in a zerg otherwise. So with that in mind, I might not have the most reliable advice in this department.
However, I find that aside from mobility GS is an extremely useful weapon only if your enemies are idiots. Fact of the matter is, you’re dealing with human intelligence. Other people will respond to getting their health dropped so the situation is different than a PvE setting with primitive mob AI, so if you aren’t using utils like stability + frenzy in conjunction with GS… you’re totally wasting your time.
This is the case especially in a zerg run-in, which is I suppose what you’re more interested in. For a zerg run-in, I highly advise longbow and hammer… despite whether or not I want to. It’s just ultimately better to be applying conditions/CC’s in AoE range for a situation like that more so than anything else. Use that sigil that has a chance to trigger an AoE flame blast on crit for the longbow and perhaps a sigil of force for the hammer. Not sure about the hammer sigil and there could be a lot of other options, but yeah.
Also keep in mind that cleave damage can only affect 3 enemies at a time, so you aren’t able to do much with 100b in a zerg run-in and it makes yourself more vulnerable, if anything, to lock yourself in place like that.
Actually on that note, what do any of you avid WvWers think about what I posted here? Just curious. ^

My Warrior is GS / Sword + WH. It isn’t an optimal build by any means, but it is the one I have come to love.
It works good enough in WvW zergs, but it can be rough to 1v1 SOME classes. Keep in mind that you have to switch Endure Pain with Berserker Stance depending on the situation.
Let me tell you this much; if you want to run away with this build, you are GOING to run away. The only thing that has a chance of catching up to you is a Thief who is seriously out for blood.
If you are looking to faceroll people, consider switching focus on a different weapon. 100blades is a garbage PvP skill, and I would rather take Arcing Slice as the weapons #2 over it any day of the week. You also have to sit on your Adrenaline at max. SPending it really isn’t an option. since you NEED that near 9% crit chance to compete with damage.
go full zerker. Trait 0/0/30/20/20
Take all the stance related traits. Take leg specialist and empower. Take whatever for adept and the immobilize removal. Use a greatsword and a sword/shield offhand. Have healing signet, balanced stance, endure pain and berzerker stance and signet of fury.
Activate Signet of Fury. Jump INTO enemy zerg. Mash all three stances. Switch to greatsword. Use 100b on zerg. Whirlwind away. Dodge. Switch weapons. Dodge. Shield block. Leap away with sword.
Congrats you just used 100b’s effectively in WvW. Full zerker to really put the hurt/fear into the enemy blob.

Ya I have used this traits before not for great sword though. Those traits work for a lot of things. I think they are suboptimal for GS though. Like others have said Great sword mainly used for mobility. Whirlwind attack is a good survival skill as well. Warhorn sword maybe better for swiftness uptime but swiftness uptime does not equate to more mobility than a GS. And weakness from warhorn does not equal more survivability than whirlwind attack in sticky situations.
All that being said I hate zerging and I hate hammers because of the uneven terain bug. In open field fighting they always bug out or the people you are trying to sun have stabilty makes Hammer totally overrated.
also leg specialist is extreemly underwhelming after the nerf.
