Guild Wars 2

Hi everybody, my first character was a necromancer but I’m looking to start another character. I was thinking of a melee prof next and I’ve tried to decide between a Warrior or Guardian. I’ve seen the legendary GS’s and I’ve been thinking that a GS would be a main weapon for my class. You guys are the experts on Warriors, I mostly enjoy WvW and guerrilla/siege (defence and offence) playstyles the most if that helps. I’d appreciate it if you could give me some information about Warriors and their GS talents / skills through experience!

Are there any weapons better than GS or is it good enough?

Not to sound like a broken record. But for Warriors, in my opinion.

Every weapon is better than GS. And I say that tentatively with regards to longbow.

Lol, what class uses GS effectively then? :P

What do you think of Guardians?

It’s ok for guardians but I feel like scepter/torch is better. Yet I don’t play a guardian so I can’t give an accurate comment. Just what I see in s/tPvP

Guardians just got a nerf on their GS. My buddy uses it in WvW and he says its a noticeable difference, but not ground breakingly bad as a lot of the QQ’ers on the forums will have you believe.
GS is not as bad as people want to make it out to be. Yes it lacks hard CC, and yes the number 2 skill locks you in place for a couple seconds but it has great mobility, 3 and 5, the damage is higher then Axe off hand 5, and if you can bullrush or bola someone they’ll take big dmg and waste a dodge roll/defensive skill/run back to their group. And if you miss it or they run away its a little more forgiving then the other high dmg skills because of the lower CD.
The other weapons are nice too, hammer/mace has lots of CC. Sword has good mobility/condition damage, and axe has good burst so it all really depends on your preference, the people you party with, and how well the other team is organized.

It really depends whether you want to be more tanky or offensive.

Guardian is not nearly as outright offensive. They have a much lower base health pool than warriors, but they have a lot of defensive skills/abilities that make them very durable. So generally you’re not going to be damage spec’d like a warrior will.

Warriors are highly mobile, particularly with a greatsword, and with the right setup there are almost no classes that can escape(barring stealth). They are not quite as self sufficient as a guardian, but they do better damage and are much better at escaping. So if you really are serious about guerilla stuff in WvW, a warrior is well suited.

Just don’t expect to survive for long sitting still with 10 people hitting you, if you wanna do that, play a guardian.

Greatsword traited with leg specialist is pretty great imho.

Alse Gs 3+5 are amazing escape tools/closers. I find it better than other weapons tbh.

Also gs3+4 are just great ways to quickly clear mesmer phantasms in bulk.
