Alright, so I know when gunflame just got introduced there was a bug that allowed warriors to double hit with gunflame, dishing out absolutely obscene amounts of damage.
Yesterday, while dueling on EB, a zerg passed by us and I was attacked by a few of them. I was almost right off the bat hit by something by surprise, this something took out my entire HP bar instantly. Checking the combat log I found I was hit by gunflame twice, both hits dealing 9817 damage (I think that was the number), both hits delivered by a Platinum Soldier. I’d say the chance of that being two different Gunflame users hitting me at the exact same time for the exact same damage that also both are similar WvW rank is quite slim.
So is anybody else noticing new occurences of Double-Gunflames?
I hitted somebody yesterday in EB twice with gunflame (1shot)..
when i checked my combat log i did 2x gunflame for the exact same dmg amounts, not 100% sure if its a combat log issue or if it really did 2x the dmg

Yup this… that heal is op with burst mastery, you can finish someone pretty fast with it… can also work well with necro given that you CI that’s 6 condi removed in a short span…. but it does have its pro and cons
Doubt it would be the exact same number even with Blood reckoning. Don’t think op is so kittened and would have realized 2 seperate shots.

Well, there’s no damage variance for critical hits and gunflame, blood reckoning and then another gun flame could all be done in the initial quickness from entering berserk.
That’s not to say that the possibility of it hitting twice isn’t at all unreasonable.

Hmm, I don’t think it was Blood Reckoning. Like I said, My HP got down from about 18k to downed state in an instant. With Blood Reckoning, there is some casttime at least.
Anyway, I guess if I am the only one noticing this, then it might have been some freak occurence or just a misinterpretation of what happened by myself.
Its a pierce glitch
Gunflame can do some strange things – mainly due to having piercing on an AoE attack. This is most noticeable when firing into tightly packed targets. Did a lot of testing with the target golems in HotM.
For one the 5 target cap only applies to a single explosion, have seen 9 damage instances from a single attack. Also you can, although rarely, hit the same enemy twice with a single shot, this seems to only happen when the projectile pierces multiple targets standing in a line close enough to be hit with multiple explosions.

Happend more than once to myself and without another Target or Bird, Sentry, … . Still buggy and didnt even noticed that it was fixed for a short Time.

Not a bug or a glitch, it seems to be working as intended. Wiki full of errors, as usual. The skill description is:
“Fire a fast, flaming shot that explodes on the first foe it hits, interrupting foes in the area.
Damage Damage: 731 (2.75)?
Burning (3s): 1179 Damage
Daze: ¼s
Number of Targets: 3
Radius: 180
Velocity Increase: 100%
Piercing Pierces
Combo Combo Finisher: Physical Projectile
Range: 1,500"
What happens is that the “explosion” triggered on ONLY the first hit target has the SAME DAMAGE as the actual gunflame. The radius and 3-target limit is for that “explosion”.
Therefore, you can set up to hit gunflame for double damage by having two targets in 180 range of each other. Due to the PIERCING effect, the target that is hit after the initial one will get the piercing shot plus the “explosion”.
In regards to the WvW scenario described by the OP, probably it triggered twice off same ambient animal or npc creature. And most likely the caster wasn`t even aware of the full workings of the skill.
