Hammer PvE Build for DPS?
Do you even lift, bro?
I don’t know. I may be wrong but I don’t think hammer be great at DPS, especially since it already is a “knock back/down” type of weapon. Would be severely OP but anything can happen =b

I realize you’re not going to do the same type of damage as Greatsword (mainly due to not stacking Might up the wazoo) but you should be able to do decent damage at the very least.

I have exotics of every weapon and I find that Hammer’s DPS is pretty good, but Mace, Axe, and Sword seem to be a little higher.
The upside is you don’t need any special traits for it. GS kinda blows without the traits. Hammer allows you to trait anything you want.
With that said I prefer Mace/Shield for PvE. It gives more survivability while providing the disables too.

Hammer is great but not for DPS.
in open world PVE, hammer is a good and fun weapon. not as much DPS as Axe or GS but good enough to work and just fun to use.
however, in high level PVE play (dungeon running and FOTM), hammer is in a tough spot. the area in which it shines (Control) is near useless against boss level enemies and dubious to use against trash mobs, where a better weapon (GS, Axe + OH) would kill much faster.
Check this and judge for yourself (not my build, took it out from the “post your warrior build” thread).

Kind regards,
Hammers have decent damage on their own, but that’s really not their intended purpose. They are excellent weapons to use for big AoE stuns and damage, and even have an AoE cripple, and an AoE knock back.
tl;dr: Hammers are best used for crowd control.

With my defensive set up, p/t/v armor. Masterwork Cleric’s jewelery, at level 80 my hammer auto-attacks hit for 800-1200. When I get a crit and some might from Warbanner/For Great Justice I can hit for 2K-3K (if they’re stunned). I’m sure if you specced DPS Hammer could do some awesome damage and have nice CC
I respecced to a hammer DPS built recently and tested it in several Dungeons.. however I didnt tested it at highevel so I dont know whats the DPS is like compared to the Dual axe I used before… however it does pop some really nice numbers fequently.
Thats my built:

The core aspect is to keep Fury up as long as possible to reach a 75% critchance probably more if you run full zerker. (My gear is Knights with zerkertrinkets)
The Built is focusing on DPS. Opportunist and leg Specialist work well together granting you 3 sec of Fury for every target hit by crippling wave (which would be 15 sec fury at 5 targets) Duration increased by runes to 60% fury uptime.
Cull the weak adds additional damage after you used hammer 2 and applied weakness.
The last 10 points are optinal, you can put them wherever you like. I chose Inspiring shouts so I have adrenalin on demand but empowered or stronger bowstring are nice options too.
With the Bow as second skill you have a viable Ranged Weapon and pull of 2 Groupmightcombos: set up firefield use arcing into it, switch to hammer use a shout and use burst for another groupmight.
The only weakness this built has are conditions so I use Sigil of Purity, mending and Shake it of to deal with them.
Another downside is that Bosses are immune to controlling and I do not know if the 25% additional damage of the hammer trait works, also most bosses have a 50% reduced weakness duration.

If you get your Attack* up there (I run 3200ish) and throw in a decent crit chance which I myself would say 30-40% is decent as a base you should have pretty beefy hammer hits. Unsuspecting foe+ Merciless Hammer are nice things to trait in for even more damage. Hammer is one of my favorite weapons as well : )

Hate to necro this thread up a bit but I was looking to build my warrior with a hammer and I am primarily focused on PvE. I was hoping someone could give it a look and tell me what they think. The basic idea is to try and benefit as much as possible from keeping your adrenaline topped off while getting an AoE stun every 10 seconds. The rifle is there to help deal with bosses who largely ignore your stuns.

Basically, the biggest problem I have with the build at the moment is that the Discipline line gives this whopping 30% crit damage and I have no real way to take advantage of that. I figured without ANY precision gear I could average a 20% crit chance with Heightened Focus and Sigil of Accuracy. This could get better with fury and things like that and synergizes well with Sigil of Intelligence for a swap to rifle and maxed burst skill.
Essentially, I wanted to make a hammer build that does not use 30 pts in Tactics for banner/shout support. I wanted to emphasize control and also be completely flexible with my utility skills. The ones in place are just generalist ones at the moment. Condition removal, Stability, and a spammable interrupt. Please let me know what you think!

My suggestion, Using Sword/x and hammer. U get some bleed to get the 10% dmg increase and fast hands to abuse sword bleed and mobility, and then use hammer to get the dps/control affects. Use knight/zerk mix even some valkryie is decent. If you use adrenaline hammer skill often then use embrace the pain otherwise the 5% dps from cull of the weak isnt too bad (not in simulator). Test out what you like, but dps wise hammer can do some decent aoe dmg. If your not hitting 3+ mobs then your probably not getting as much dps as a GS in most cases.
